Chapter 766: Chapter 766: Because He Has Schizophrenia

Not seeing Delphine, the disappointment in Ignatius Leclair’s phoenix eyes was unmistakable, and his originally composed expression turned even colder and sharper.

Salvador Lawrence presented two irrefutable points: first, Ignatius Leclair had a motive for murder; second, he had no alibi. Attempting a reversal to prove his innocence was virtually a pipe dream.

In stark contrast to the murmur of discussions in the courtroom gallery, both the defendant’s stand and the defense team remained exceptionally composed.

Brock Gray, under immense pressure, began his defense, his gaze cutting directly toward Stone Leclair.

Stone Leclair, though appearing to have the upper hand, was inexplicably gripped by a deep sense of panic. For this estranged son of his, no one could fathom whether his feelings leaned more toward fear or dread. Over the years, in the Imperial City, the Howard Family had continuously suppressed him, while in the South Seas, Ignatius held him in check. Though by title he was the Leclair Family Head, all the family’s true power lay entirely in Ignatius’s hands. He didn’t even dare stir up too much commotion in the political arena.

It was unbearably suffocating. Even when he was exiled to a small town as a local official, he was treated as though his every move was under watch, his life mired in hardship. After finally managing to bring Isaac Leclair by his side, intending to cultivate a capable assistant, Ignatius once again sent Isaac to the United Kingdom.

He couldn’t say when it began, but he found himself firmly gripped in the palm of this son’s hand, utterly unable to move. This would be his last chance.

Stone Leclair glanced toward Jocelyn Yeager seated below. She smiled faintly and gave him a slight nod.

Brock Gray dived straight in and asked bluntly, "Mr. Stone Leclair, was this surveillance footage provided by you?"

"Yes."

"Due to a typhoon passing through on the day in question, the hospital’s surveillance equipment malfunctioned. How, then, did you acquire this footage? Did you privately install surveillance in the hospital? With what intent? If surveillance footage existed, why didn’t you bring it forward four years ago?"

"I installed surveillance for my wife’s safety. Four years ago, I didn’t submit it because the person involved was my son. However, over the past four years, my conscience has been in constant torment."

"Lies," Brock Gray barked coldly. "You had a distant relationship with the deceased. When she was hospitalized after the car accident and became comatose for over half a year, you never once visited her. Not only that, but you have a history of frequently whipping her and exhibiting tendencies of domestic violence. On this point, the Leclair family doctor and house staff can testify.

Let me ask: for a man who routinely whipped his wife and ignored her entirely, why would such a man go so far as to privately install surveillance if the hospital already had it? And since you had such surveillance, why didn’t you install it in the patient’s room instead of elsewhere? The truth is that your story doesn’t hold up, as my client did not commit murder in the first place."

The courtroom once again erupted with whispered chatter, spectators pointing fingers at Stone Leclair. This time, the Leclair father and son had completely shattered all semblances of civility, leaving no care for reputation or decorum. Every sordid detail was laid bare.

"On the night in question, my client received a distress message from the deceased, which is why he went to her hospital room," Brock Gray continued, though his words were only halfway through before the room collectively held its breath, waiting for what would follow.

"Moreover, when Ms. Gu fell into a vegetative state after the car accident, it was my client who arranged for a neurology expert to perform surgery and save her. If my client had harbored bitterness or hatred toward Ms. Gu, there would have been no need for such efforts. The supposed motive for murder simply does not exist." Brock Gray’s voice rang with conviction.

The spectators nodded in agreement. Put that way, saving someone’s life only to kill them later indeed made no sense.

Jocelyn Yeager let out a faint, mocking laugh as she quietly watched Stone Leclair.

Stone Leclair stared daggers at Ignatius Leclair and shouted sternly, "Because he has dissociative identity disorder! The one who saved her was one personality, and the one who killed her was another!"

This son of his was a devil, pure and simple.
