The Twisted Obsession-Chapter 324: Lure them out
Chapter 324: Lure them out
The morning sun filtered through the blinds of Remo’s study, casting long shadows on the polished wooden floor. Tony stood by the large window, arms crossed as he stared out over the sprawling city. His mind was racing, piecing together the fragments of the attack from the previous night.
Remo sat behind his desk, his face hardened with determination. The events of the last few days played over and over in his mind. Abby’s paranoia, the assassin, and the cryptic warning about someone close to her—it all pointed to something much bigger than he had initially realized.
"We’re missing something," Tony said, breaking the silence, his voice deep and steady. "This attack wasn’t random. It was too clean, too well thought out."
Remo nodded, his jaw clenched. "Whoever sent that guy knew exactly what they were doing. The plan was to make it look like I killed Abby in some violent confrontation. The police would have been all over me, and by the time I could explain, it would’ve been too late."
Tony walked over to the desk, placing a folder down in front of Remo. "I’ve been looking into the assassin’s background. His name was Marcus Thorne, ex-military turned hired gun. He’s worked for some high-level clients over the years—always clean, always professional."
Remo opened the folder, scanning the details Tony had gathered. It was clear that Marcus was no amateur. Whoever had hired him had deep pockets and connections.
"And the bank account?" Remo asked, his eyes flicking back up to Tony.
Tony’s expression tightened, his eyes darkening. "That’s where things get interesting. I traced the payment that was made to him. It was a sizable amount, wired from an offshore account. But I managed to dig a little deeper."
Tony pulled out a sheet of paper from the folder, handing it to Remo. "The account is linked to a name—Dominic Blake."
Remo’s eyes narrowed as he read the name. "Who the hell is Dominic Blake?"
"That’s what we’re going to find out," Tony replied, his voice steady. "From what I’ve gathered so far, Blake is a known associate of shady business dealings—underground connections, money laundering, the works. But there’s more. He’s been connected to Margaret."
Remo’s breath caught. He had suspected Margaret might be involved, but this was the first real connection they had found.
"Margaret..." Remo muttered, piecing it together. "She’s the one pulling the strings."
Tony nodded. "It makes sense. She escaped from the mental hospital with someone’s help. We knew she’d been quiet, too quiet, ever since then. And now, with this connection to Dominic, it’s clear she’s been planning something bigger than we realized."
Remo’s mind raced as he thought back to everything that had happened in the past few months. Margaret had always been a looming figure in Abby’s life, bitter and envious of the power Abby inherited. And now, with this revelation, it was clear she had been plotting in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike.
"And this Dominic Blake—he’s the one who’s been helping her?" Remo asked, his voice sharp.
Tony nodded. "Looks that way. He’s likely the one who helped her escape from the hospital. He’s got the connections, the resources. And from what I can tell, they’ve been planning this for months, maybe even longer."
Remo’s fists clenched, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. "They were going to frame me, kill Abby, and take everything."
"Exactly," Tony said, his voice low. "But now, we have the chance to turn the tables on them. I’ve got a plan."
Remo leaned forward, his eyes focused. "Tell me."
Tony pulled up a chair, sitting across from Remo. "We’re going to set Margaret up. I found a burner phone in Marcus’s belongings—the one he was using to communicate with his employer. We’ll send a message from the phone, making it seem like Marcus completed the job and needs to meet to receive final payment."
Remo’s eyes gleamed with understanding. "We lure them out."
"Exactly," Tony confirmed. "Once they take the bait, we’ll have them where we want them. But we have to be careful. Margaret’s no fool, and neither is Dominic. They’ll be cautious, but if we play this right, they won’t see it coming."
Remo stood, pacing the room as the plan took shape in his mind. It was risky, but it was their best shot. "And what about Abby? She doesn’t know anything about this yet."
Tony’s face grew more serious. "You need to keep her in the dark for now. With everything going on, if she finds out Margaret is behind this, she might spiral again. We can’t afford any slip-ups."
Remo nodded, his mind made up. Abby’s mental state had been fragile for weeks, and with everything that had happened, he needed to protect her from this as much as possible. But once this was over, once Margaret and Dominic were dealt with, they could finally move on.
"We’ll do it tonight," Remo said, his voice cold and determined. "I want this over with."
Tony stood, grabbing the burner phone from the folder. "I’ll send the message now. We’ll wait for their response and go from there."
Remo’s eyes burned with resolve as he watched Tony tap out the message on the burner phone:
"It’s done. Need to meet for final payment. Usual spot."
Tony sent the message and set the phone down on the desk. "Now we wait."
Meanwhile, across town, Margaret and Dominic were sitting in the dimly lit lounge of a luxury hotel, unaware that their carefully laid plans had begun to unravel. They were basking in the anticipation of their victory, convinced that Remo would be taken down and Abby’s fate was already sealed.
Dominic poured Margaret another glass of champagne, his smile smug as he leaned back in his chair. "By this time tomorrow, Remo will be in handcuffs, and Abby will be out of the picture. The police will take care of the rest."
Margaret’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "It’s all coming together perfectly."
Just then, Dominic’s phone buzzed on the table. He picked it up, glancing at the message, and his smile widened. "Looks like our guy came through," he said, showing Margaret the message from Marcus’s phone.
Margaret raised an eyebrow. "Well, I suppose we should wrap things up then, shouldn’t we?"
Dominic nodded, his eyes flickering with dark intent. "Let’s meet him and settle this once and for all."
