Chapter 11: Who You Belong To

โ€‹Leoโ€™s POV ๐—ณ๐š›๐—ฒ๐•–๐š ๐šŽ๐š‹๐—ป๐—ผ๐•ง๐—ฒ๐ฅ.๐šŒ๐š˜๐ฆ

โ€‹I walked over to Liam, my wolf howling in rage. Every instinct I had was screaming at me to tear his throat out, but I held myself back. I knew something had happened by the way she had bolted away, looking like her world had just ended.

โ€‹"Liam," I growled, the sound vibrating deep in my chest. "What the hell were you doing with her? Why did she run like that?"

โ€‹Liam wiped a smear of blood from his lip, his eyes flashing with a challenge. "None of your business, Leo. Since when do you care about Scarlett?"

โ€‹I felt my claws itching to break through my skin. I couldnโ€™t tell him. I couldnโ€™t tell anyone.

โ€‹Scarlett was my mate. โ€‹I had known it since she turned eighteen, just hours after the hanging of her parents. The scent had hit me like a physical blowโ€”sweet peaches and rain. But I couldnโ€™t say it. I couldnโ€™t let anyone know I was mated to a traitorโ€™s daughter. It would be a disgrace to the Alpha line. Her parents had a hand in the death of our mother; being with her was a betrayal of our blood.

โ€‹So, I kept it hidden. I had spent years treating her like dirt, waiting for her to get her wolf so I could officially reject her and be free of the pull. But seeing Liam near her? It made my blood boil with a possessiveness I couldnโ€™t control.

โ€‹"Nothing happened," Liam said, narrowing his eyes at me. "Why are you looking so pissed? Itโ€™s just Scarlett."

โ€‹I wanted to roar at him. I wanted to scream that she wasnโ€™t just anyoneโ€”that she was mine. My mate. But I knew better. He would laugh at me. He would mock me for being tied to a girl whose parents were murderers.

โ€‹"Just stay away from her," I spat.

โ€‹I didnโ€™t wait for his reply. I turned and stormed out of the party, the music and laughter feeling like needles in my ears. I jumped on my bike and kicked it into gear, tearing down the dirt roads at a high speed, hoping the wind would calm my nerves; but it didnโ€™t cool my rageโ€”it only fanned the flames.

โ€‹I reached the packhouse in record time. But instead of going to my own room to cool off, my feet moved on their own. I went straight to the servantsโ€™ quarters. I went to her room.

โ€‹I sat in the shadows of her tiny, pathetic room, waiting. When she finally pushed the door open, looking wet and trembling in that blue dress, I felt a twisted sense of possession.

โ€‹"Youโ€™re late," I rumbled.

โ€‹She gasped and fumbled for the light. When the bulb flickered on, her eyes widened in terror.

โ€‹"Leo..." she whispered.

โ€‹I didnโ€™t let her finish. I was off the chair in a second, moving with the speed of the predator I was. I slammed her against the door, my body pinning her small frame into the wood.

โ€‹"You smell like him," I hissed, leaning down until my nose was pressed against her neck, right where the lake water hadnโ€™t completely washed away Liamโ€™s scent. "You smell like my brotherโ€™s mouth was all over you. Did you think I wouldnโ€™t notice, Scarlett?"

โ€‹"Youโ€™re wrong..." she whispered, her voice trembling, but my wolf knew better. He was scratching at the surface, ready to kill for the insult of another maleโ€™s scent on our woman.

โ€‹I gripped her chin, forcing her to look at me. Her lips were slightly swollenโ€”not from the cold, but from pressure. My heart hammered against my ribs like a battering ram.

โ€‹"Did Liam kiss you?" I asked, my voice dropping to an angry, low frequency.

โ€‹Her eyes widened, a flash of guilt crossing those blue depths before she shook her head frantically. But I didnโ€™t need words. I could smell the change in her pheromones; I could see the way her pulse jumped in her throat.

โ€‹"He fucking kissed you?"

โ€‹Rage, hot and blinding, surged through me. My mate. My woman. My brother had put his mouth on what belonged to me. The fact that I had spent years pretending I didnโ€™t want her didnโ€™t matter now. The bond was screaming, demanding blood, demanding a claim.

โ€‹"Leo, itโ€™s not like thatโ€”" she started, her hands coming up to my chest to push me away.

โ€‹I didnโ€™t let her finish. I was already past the point of reason. I leaned in and crushed my lips against hers, a brutal, punishing kiss fueled by pure, jealous insanity. I wanted to burn Liamโ€™s taste out of her mouth. I wanted to remind her body who she really belonged to.

โ€‹She gasped into my mouth, her small hands fisting in my shirt as she tried to fight me off. But I was a wall of muscle, and the mate bond was a traitor. Within seconds, her resistance began to melt. A soft, broken moan escaped her throat, and I answered it with a guttural sound of my own. She couldnโ€™t resist meโ€”even if she didnโ€™t know why, her soul recognized mine.

โ€‹I moved my mouth to her neck, biting at the skin, marking her with my scent until the smell of Liam was buried under my own heavy musk.

โ€‹"Youโ€™re mine," I growled against her skin. "Do you understand? Mine."

โ€‹I reached for the straps of that expensive blue dressโ€”the one Lana had used to turn her into a target. With one violent tug, the silk gave way. The fabric tore down the middle, exposing the creamy curve of her cleavage. She was so pale, so fragile, and yet she was the only thing that could keep my wolf from going feral.

โ€‹I buried my face in her chest, kissing the valley between her breasts, my hands moving to the back of her bra. With a sharp flick, I unhooked it.

โ€‹"Leo, stop... please," she sobbed, but her back was arching toward me, her body betraying every word she spoke.

โ€‹"Iโ€™m not stopping," I hissed, my eyes glowing in the dim light of her room. "Not until every inch of you remembers who you belong to."
