Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Meal Delivery

Maya was so sleepy her eyes wouldn’t stay open. She had the words of rejection on her lips, but they never came out.

Because she remembered that in the storyline, the original character wouldn’t directly reject Yolanda Sawyer. Every time, the original character would deliberately try to please and comply, but most of the time it resulted in good intentions paving the way to a bad outcome. Coupled with the contrast to the female lead Kiki Monroe, the original character naturally became less appealing in Yolanda Sawyer’s eyes.

"...Okay, I’ll go to the office and check on him."

Yolanda Sawyer’s voice was filled with even more laughter, and her tone gentler, "Then I won’t take up your time. Pack up and go check on Ian. Oh, and Kiki, it’s been a while since you came to visit this old lady. Ever since Eric moved out, the old house feels empty. Grandma misses you; come by when you have time."

Maya readily agreed, and the moment the call ended, she went right back to sleep on the bed.

Maya still got up very late. After washing up, she didn’t forget about Yolanda Sawyer asking her to deliver a meal. Maya went downstairs, told Aunt Wang to make something Ian likes.

Aunt Wang asked, "Ma’am, will you be eating at home?"

Maya shook her head, "I’m taking a meal to Ian, so I won’t be eating at home."

Aunt Wang looked pleasantly surprised, thinking Maya finally understood, "It’s for Mr. Rowe? I’ll get it ready right away. Ma’am, you can rest for a bit, there’s sliced fruit on the table."

Maya nodded, seemingly remembering something, "Ian must be tired of eating light stuff all the time, Aunt Wang, make something different for him, he’ll definitely like it!"

Aunt Wang’s smile froze, and she suddenly had a bad premonition, "Ma’am, what kind of meal do you want to prepare for Mr. Rowe?"

Maya thought carefully, "Braised pork knuckle, sweet and sour pork, braised pork in brown sauce, twice-cooked pork... let’s start with these."

Aunt Wang tried to persuade her, "Ma’am, maybe we should stick to the flavors Mr. Rowe prefers. He doesn’t like greasy dishes..."

Of course, Maya knew Ian didn’t like greasy foods, "He rarely eats them so he doesn’t know how good they are. You see, I don’t go without them at any meal."

Aunt Wang’s smile was a bit forced, "Everyone’s taste is different. Maybe some fish soup for Mr. Rowe..."

Maya waved her hand, "Aunt Wang, you don’t understand. Eating meat gives you strength. He’s so busy with work that he needs something nourishing!"

Watching Maya speak nonsense so earnestly yet so resolutely, Aunt Wang couldn’t argue, "Okay..."

Maya nodded contentedly and headed to the living room in her slippers.

Watching Maya’s carefree departure, Aunt Wang sighed deeply. She thought that Maya was pretty smart, yet when it came to pursuing Ian Rowe, she never seemed to use the right approach. Was it because love made her lose basic judgment?

Maya sat in the living room for a while before regretting not asking Aunt Wang to prepare her own meal. The fruit wasn’t enough to fill her stomach.

By the time Aunt Wang got the meal box ready, it was almost noon.

Yolanda Sawyer mentioned breakfast, but Maya’s preparation ended up being lunch.

Maya weighed the meal box, thinking it wasn’t light at all, and said to Aunt Wang, "Thank you for your hard work."

Then she went out, and the driver was already waiting for her outside.

Usually, Maya was busy with film crews and was picked up by Scott and his team in a caravan. This was her first time using the Rowe family driver.

"Ma’am, are we going to Mr. Rowe’s company?"

The driver was a middle-aged man around forty, who looked honest and sincere.

Maya popped a candy in her mouth, her ivory-white cheeks as alluring as peach blossoms, and nodded, "Let’s go."

As she got out of the car, Maya looked at the towering office building, inwardly admiring the Rowe family’s financial power.

The receptionist seemed familiar with Maya and, after a nervous glance once Maya removed her sunglasses, let her pass.

Maya put her sunglasses back on; given her public persona, it was better to be wrapped up, as she wasn’t in the mood for a tug-of-war with fans.

Little did she know, her attire was already drawing attention. Everyone in the company was in suits and ties, except for a few others who were also neatly dressed. In contrast, Maya wore slightly oversized clothes with no patterns other than logos—overly simple. With sunglasses obscuring her face, all that was visible were her crimson lips and pointed chin. Holding a meal box, wearing sneakers, she seemed out of place with the office’s polished elegance.

While in the elevator, Maya could feel the eyes of those around her, but they restrained themselves out of courtesy, merely glancing at her a few times.

Everyone in the elevator even wondered if Maya was in the wrong place until they saw her slender white finger pressing the button for the thirty-ninth floor.

For most Valerius Group employees, the thirty-ninth floor was special, as it was Ian Rowe’s office floor. Ian Rowe was the chairman and CEO of Valerius Group, effectively its ruler.

The elevator steadily ascended floor after floor, as Maya ignored the stares.

With a soft chime from the elevator, they reached the thirty-ninth floor.

Ian Rowe, wearing rimless glasses on the bridge of his nose, didn’t even glance at the file handed to him, his voice flat, "These documents don’t need to be reported to me, Miss Jacobs, take them back."

Yvette Jacobs paused momentarily, gazing at Ian’s cold, chiseled profile.

"Haven’t I done well enough?" Her voice was soft, matching her appearance, a balance of scholarliness and gentleness, with an undeniable infatuation in her eyes as she looked at Ian.

She had met Ian Rowe at a few events by chance, his elegance and charisma captivating her heart. To see more of him, she had implored her father for an opportunity to work with him.

Ian’s voice cooled further, now tinged with impatience, "For these basic questions, you can consult Vincent Summers or Assistant Zhang."

"But my father wanted me to learn business skills from you, like Vincent Summers. Isn’t this necessary..."

Simultaneously, the secretary opened the office door for Maya.

Seeing Ian with another woman in a room sparked an instant thrill in Maya, as she’d been itching for an excuse to vex him.

Maya handed the meal box to the secretary first; she couldn’t very well get into a confrontation with a meal box in hand, as spilling the contents would be unwise.

"Ma’am..." The secretary opened his mouth.

Maya ignored him, as invigorated as if she’d been injected with adrenaline, she strode toward Ian.
