Chapter 254: Chapter 254: Begging Along the Village

Maya Monroe walked on the concrete floor, waving her hand to scatter the dust: "The smell here is too strong. Let’s open the window."

Miles Wallace responded and then walked to the window.

A "click" sound was followed by a sudden "bang" of shattering.

Maya Monroe retracted her gaze and hurried toward Miles Wallace’s direction: "What happened?"

Miles Wallace looked complicated: "The window cracked."

The already broken window shattered into pieces of various sizes at that moment.

"Are you hurt?"

"No, I just stepped back."

Miles Wallace crouched down, intending to pick up a shard of glass.

Maya Monroe hastily stopped him: "Wait, you can’t pick it up directly!"

Miles Wallace paused, then obediently withdrew his hand.

Maya Monroe said: "If you pick it up directly, you’ll get hurt. Come on, get up. I’ll find a broom or something to clean it up."

Miles Wallace stood up: "Thank you, senior."

"It’s nothing."

While looking for a broom, Maya Monroe took a moment to survey the house.

It has to be said, the production team was indeed much more merciful this time. Apart from its dilapidation, at least there was a place to stay. The furniture, though covered in dust, should be usable after cleaning.

Compared to the previous conditions, this edition indeed feels much more comfortable.

Maya Monroe finally found cleaning tools in a corner of the kitchen.

"Senior, let me do it."

Maya Monroe handed over the broom in her hand: "I’ll go take a closer look at this house."

"Okay." Miles Wallace agreed.

Besides the spacious courtyard, this house had four rooms and a living room.

Two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. One has to say the production team had thought this through quite well.

Upon entering the bedroom, Maya Monroe was surprised to find it was obviously cleaned, unlike the living room’s ruin. The bed was clean and tidy, too.

The tea set standing in the middle of the table was brand new.

Maya Monroe moved on to the other bedroom, finding an identical setup.

"I didn’t expect you guys to prepare so much stuff, quite a surprise."

The photographer chuckled: "We promised to leave a good impression on you for the final episode."

Maya Monroe nodded and finally went to the kitchen.

Except for the two bedrooms that had been cleaned, the other rooms remained as dusty as ever.

Maya Monroe lifted the pot lid, revealing a large crack in the pot’s bottom, clearly unusable.

The kitchen had only an old stove. Maya Monroe leaned closer to check, unsure if it was still functional.

After a round of exploration, the kitchen’s environment greatly disappointed Maya Monroe. Almost all of the cooking tools had become unusable from long-term disuse.

"These can’t be used at all, right?"

The photographer, holding the camera, shook his head at her: "Probably not usable."

Maya Monroe continued to ask, "Are the other guests facing similar situations?"

This time, the photographer did not speak.

Maya Monroe had the answer and finally paced around the kitchen before heading to the living room to meet Miles Wallace.

In fact, whether the kitchen was usable or not didn’t matter. After all, she seldom used kitchens. In previous worlds, there was no kitchen due to limited conditions. Now, there were people designated to handle food, sparing her the need to cook.

"I just took a quick look around. Both bedrooms are clean, with bedding. But the kitchen and..." Maya Monroe looked around: "this living room is in disrepair, almost unusable."

Miles Wallace had already cleaned up the broken glass, thinking: "In that case, we’ll need to put more thought into the food issue."

Maya Monroe said nonchalantly: "If worse comes to worst, we can beg through the village."

"Along... Senior, are you serious?"

Miles Wallace paused slightly, his face showing some complexity.

Maya Monroe was amused by his expression and couldn’t help but smile: "I was just joking. Now’s the time to find joy amidst hardship. And truly... this isn’t considered hardship."

Miles Wallace nodded, his azure eyes growing more crystal clear: "Actually... I think now is quite nice."

"Quite nice?" Maya Monroe thought for a moment: "Is this what they call experiencing life? Gaining a new experience?"

Miles Wallace hesitated, instinctively avoiding Maya Monroe’s gaze: "No, I feel..." His earlobes turned red, unable to speak for a while.

Maya Monroe did not intend to dig deeper. She looked at the window with a gaping hole and frowned: "It’s the season when insects are most active. Let’s see if there’s anything we can use to cover this up. Otherwise, we’ll probably get bitten by mosquitoes tonight."

Miles Wallace nodded: "Okay." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Regarding Maya Monroe’s suggestions and commands, Miles Wallace was almost entirely compliant.

They finally managed to find some thick newspapers from a drawer to paste over it, barely blocking the hot air from outside.

Maya Monroe glanced at the newspaper, noticing the news was already several years old.

"I wonder how long we’ll be staying here. Let’s clean up the room. Do you want to tidy up the kitchen or the living room?"

Miles Wallace said: "Leave it all to me."

"Best to choose one."

Miles Wallace thought it over: "Senior should pick first."

Maya Monroe said casually: "Then I’ll clean up the living room."

Miles Wallace responded and then headed to the kitchen.

It’s easy to go from frugal to lavish, but going back is hard. Having not done housework in so long, Maya Monroe felt she was on the verge of losing this ability.

Maya Monroe rubbed her slightly sore waist and reluctantly continued cleaning.

Soon, Miles Wallace came out, placing the basin back to its original position.

He patted the dust off his hands and took the rag from Maya Monroe: "I’ll handle it; you go rest over there."

Seeing the slightly messy sofa, he changed his tone: "Why don’t you rest in the bedroom for a while? I’ll call you when it’s tidied up."

Maya Monroe handed over the rag in a daze: "You clean so quickly."

Considering Miles Wallace’s age and status, Maya Monroe never imagined he would be so adept at housekeeping.

"Hmm... I often tidy up at home."

"That’s impressive." Maya Monroe praised.

Maya Monroe witnessed firsthand how quickly Miles Wallace cleaned the house, with decisiveness and no hesitation.

She couldn’t help but think about the negative comments online about Miles Wallace, finding them increasingly baseless.

[Hehe: Really nice. I love Maya and Miles the most, and the fact that they’re in the same team is perfect. But it breaks my heart to see them living in such a house. I’m almost crying, boohoo...]

[Jiang Shan: This house is too run-down. It’s a bona fide shabby shack!]

[Fu Yeli: I just switched over from Kiki Monroe’s live stream. I have to say, it’s really luxurious there. The homeowner must be the village’s wealthiest person. The setup there is beyond words!]
