"You are a disgrace to me and my team, so unfortunately, I will have to pass up on you. Instead of a team to get into, you need a proper recommendation to a salon."

Each word from the omega felt like it hurt as they stabbed me deep.

While I was not someone who spent a lot of time on how I looked, I was not too shabby either. But Joshua sure had a way to make me feel worthless.

"Alright, I get it. You don’t want me in your team, right? Then, I will leave now. There is no need to speak anymore."

I told Joshua before I turned around. The poor omega panicked, but he was too proud to call back to me.

But desperation was beginning to claw on the omega’s face, so I slowed my pace down to give the other person a chance.

"Boss, what are you doing? You need to stop him. We don’t have time to recruit others anymore. Don’t you remember how you rejected the others that applied for this team? We might be at a disadvantage at this rate."

A pink-haired beta told Joshua. I had sensed him, but had not bothered to pay attention to him. He must be another teammate of the pink-haired omega.

I could see Joshua bite his lip from the corner of my eyes, and I quickened my pace just a little. And that did the trick. Joshua immediately turned toward me and grabbed my arm.

"H-Hey, wait a minute. You said your name was Manet, right? Now that I take another look at you, your skin is not bad and you have a sense of fashion. We can work with you on our team."

Joshua finally bit his lip as he spoke. I had no reason to reject him, so I swallowed the bitter feeling I was getting in the bottom of my stomach and extended my hand toward him.

"Sure. Let’s exchange contact information. I need to head back to my shift now. We can discuss any important matter tomorrow before the hunter’s championship starts."

I told the pair and they nodded.

We exchanged numbers and other information before the other side decided to leave.

I needed to head back to work as well, but before that, I needed to get the ice cream that Emma had asked for.

The line at the store was long, but somehow, I was able to slip through the crowd and make my way to the front... and if I used my hunter skills to do this... well, no one was going to find out about it.

"What flavor do you want?"

The lady working the front desk had an annoyed look on her face. Dealing with such a massive crowd must be giving her a headache, and not all of the customers were polite toward her.

I also had no intention of standing around and trying to make her feel better.

"Can I have two cones of today’s special and two cups of in-house blend?"

The two special cones were for Emma and Ben, while the in-house blend was for myself and Theo, mainly because I could not carry four cones.

"Sure. Please pay for it and someone will get it ready for you."

The counter lady told me, and I paid quickly. The order was out just as quickly, and I ran to get it back home before it melted.

The PC café was not that crowded when I came back, and I quickly headed toward Emma and Ben to hand over their order.

"Here! Take your ice cream before it melts."

I handed the supply over to those two before I went to find Theo. The alpha was in the break room, and he was panting heavily as he leaned against the wall. His face also looked a little redder than before.

The pheromones in the room tried to push me down again and again, but I braved through them and reached Theo.

"Here, you have some ice cream as well. It would make you feel better—"

Theo looked at me with hazy eyes before his eyes fixated on the small section between my thumb and forefinger where ice cream had melted, and he pulled my hand toward his face. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

A wet and hot tongue licked my hand, causing me to shiver at the sensation.

"Theo, what are you doing? Let go of my hand... or else..."

I threatened, even as my legs felt weak. I had never faced a situation like this before.

"P-Please, let me do this... just a little more... the smell helps..."

Theo promised as he pulled my wrist close to his nose and took a sniff. He nuzzled against my wrist before pulling me closer.

Things were getting more and more dangerous for me, but weirdly enough, my instincts were calm, which made me half-panic and half-melt against the alpha.

"Kyle, it hurts. My body hurts and it feels so hot. Please, help me out. Ugh, it hurts..."

Theo complained and my heart thundered in my chest. I wanted to help him out, but what could I even do...

"Stay with me... don’t leave me... it hurts so much..."

The alpha spoke in a soft voice, and I really wanted to help. I grabbed Theo’s face to make him look at me.

"Don’t worry. Tell me what I can do to help you out. I will do anything..."

I told Theo, the bag falling from my hand as I leaned against him. My pheromones were also going wild, wanting to help him more.

"Really. Then, can you stay with me for some time? Your presence helped me out..."

The alpha tugged my hair that was falling on his face, and I could tell that my face was leaning forward more and more toward him.

The distance between our lips was also not a lot, and a small push would be enough to make our lips meet. I wanted to close that distance and—

"Theo, Kyle, what are you doing? Is the break not done—"

Emma opened the door, and Ben walked behind her.

Her disturbance broke off whatever spell had kept me in place until now, and I jerked myself back with a heavy pant.

Theo growled in an alpha voice, his pheromones and behavior warning the duo to keep out and away from his territory.

"Shit-! These pheromones... Looks like Theo has gone into his rut. Kyle, come here right now. Otherwise, Theo will eat you alive."

Ben warned me, but my head felt a little slow at the moment.

’Rut?... Eat alive?... What is going on here?’

All I could tell was that Theo was in pain, and I wanted to help him out. I needed to do something...

"Shit, this is bad. Kyle is under the influence of Theo’s pheromones. Tsk, I knew they were compatible, but this is a little too much..."

Ben spoke, but his words came in from one ear and out from another. Ultimately, he decided to get inside himself, and Theo growled at him.

But Ben did not seem to care as he grabbed my arm and signaled Emma to go around and grab Theo for a second.

Emma did that, and Theo let go, now looking startled. And that was when Ben pulled me away from a shocked Theo.
