The Tales of Draconic Warlock-Chapter 297: The Alchemy Guild (3)
"Hello, I want to register with the guild", Celine spoke to the receptionist that was available.
The Alchemy Guild works similarly to the Adventurer’s Guild. Like there were monster-hunting quests or resource-gathering quests at the adventurer guild, there are also quests posted here but they are all potion-making quests.
From what I heard, there was no need to post for herbs or monster parts here. The guild would provide those as long as you have the money. Of course, they don’t grow them, at least not all of them. They would post the quests at the adventurer guild.
Many of the recurring quests are courtesy of the alchemy guild or other organizations that need them.
So, the quests are to submit potions that one made through alchemy and nothing else.

"Hello, welcome to the guild. I am Sophia. You should know that joining the Alchemy Guild isn’t free and it would cost you one gold coin", the receptionist said to Celine.
Though it was only to Celine that Sophia spoke, as she was the one who was interested in joining this guild, not us. We were just tagging along to see what the guild was about, and that’s all. However, we all heard when the receptionist mentioned that there was a joining cost.
I wonder why?
Sophia spoke again before Celine said anything, "Looking at you, you should be wondering why there is a cost for registering?"
We nodded to that. We wanted to know the reason why there was a cost for registering here.
"Unlike the adventurer guild, where there are many people, we don’t take everyone in. Alchemy is a costly business. Yes, it can give you a lot of profits but only when you are successful in creating potions. Otherwise, it’s a money-sucking profession".
"The other professions, are not as money-sucking as this. We want to know that our members are willing to spend money because if they are to give up in the middle, that’s just a waste of resources. Only by going further, no matter the loss, can Alchemy be claimed".
"If you can’t do that, it’s best not to start. You would be just losing money without ever gaining that back. Though the guild wouldn’t lose much, getting those resources is not an easy thing to do. So, the joining cost", Sophia explained.
Now, we understand why it is the way it is.
Though resources like those common herbs and monster parts are easy to acquire, wasting them for someone who would give up in the middle is not worth the waste.
As she said, Alchemy is the best and worst way to wealth.
One has to have wealth to use Alchemy and it is also the best way to huge wealth.
It makes no sense, I know but it is what it is.
Alchemy, like any other profession, depends on talent but also on luck. Yeah, the outcome of the alchemy is irritating like that.
When you try to make potions or pills, the quantity or quality will not always be what you want. Normally, as long as one follows a certain procedure perfectly, it should yield the best result but in alchemy, it doesn’t.
Wait a minute. I totally forgot about this.
The potion and pill making is just like pharma on earth. The reason why alchemy failed a lot of times was that there were no correct instruments to measure how things were going during the production.
Hmm, but this world is a magic world.
Is there another reason behind that?
I don’t know and I don’t want to intervene either because I have no idea how to make those instruments in the first place and I can’t also suggest such content.
I never dabbled in alchemy. If I suddenly make such suggestions, that would be weird. Moreover, how can I describe them? Speaking vaguely would get nowhere. So, it’s best to keep my mouth shut.
---
Celine took out a gold coin and placed it on the counter.
There was no change on Sophia’s face. Though we didn’t know that the guild charges for registration, our clothes don’t say poor in any sense. Paying a gold coin wouldn’t cause any dent in our reserves and that was something the receptionist should understand completely.
Taking the gold coin, Spohia immediately registered Celine as a member of the guild.
"Miss, now that you are a member of the guild, you can take on the quests to make potions or pills. Also, you can buy directly from the guild the alchemy resources that you need either to do those quests or for personal use".
"Similar to that of the adventurer guild, we too assign ranks to our members. For now, your rank is F. To increase the rank, you need to submit quests. At F rank you don’t enjoy any privileges but there are certain privileges as the rank goes up".
"Like at Rank E, you can get a 1% discount on anything that you buy from the guild. As rank goes up, the discount rate goes up and you also would get certain perks", Sophia explained the workings of the guild.
This content is taken from freeweɓnovel.cѳm.
Celine nodded in understanding and then went to the guild board where the quests were posted.
The number of posts is not as many as the adventurer guild but there are many repetitive posts, mainly for the recuperating potions and pills, like Health Potion, Blood Freeze Pill, Stamina Potion, Mana Potion etc...
These products would be made every day but would be gone the next day. The demand for them is after all very high. Many low-talented alchemists make a living by making these beginner but highly sought-after potions.
Celine, as an F rank member, could only take quests of Tier-1 potions. So, she chose the common ones like Health and Mana potions. There was a reason for that. All three of us use magic, more than physical prowess.
So, Mana is very necessary and Health Potions, are necessary everywhere.

Now everything that we went to do was done, we returned to the Inn. It was already dark when we returned. So, we ate dinner first before returning to our rooms to rest.
Come morning, we need to go out of the city to hunt and also gather the resources that Celine needs for her potions. We may have to leave early in the morning. So, we decided to retire early for the night and fell on our beds to sleep.
