The Swapped Master's Bride And Her Bad Luck System.-Chapter 56: Weijun’s cranky.
"I would rather shoot myself in the ass for the third time." Liwu replied.
Xuanji laughed.
With the culprits arrested, Liwu and Linlin returned to the precinct to interrogate more suspects and wrap up the case. A task that would take them half of the morning.
Back at Weijun’s office, Manman had dropped in for another visit. Following Weijun’s instructions, Mo Xia had denied her entry. But Manman proved clever. She started a livestream, and thousands of her fans flocked in to see their most beautiful actress who had returned after nearly two years away.
Immediately, she turned the camera in Mo Xia’s direction and announced that she was at City hall to see her friend Weifeng.
Mo Xia ducked down to avoid being caught on camera and Manman slipped into the office. Then, she ended the livestream and burst into tears.
Weijun was not in a great mood because his morning had not started out as he anticipated. His knees were still throbbing from being forced to kneel for an hour in a guest bedroom turned ancestral hall by butler Chen and his minions.
In addition to that, Reed and Cross had provided a list of their allies that had ’retired’ over the years. As it turned out, they had not retired but their systems had been revoked!! Also, their memories had been wiped so they did not remember ever being system hosts.
The Bureau was capable of erasing systems!!
The realization had him nervous. Not just him but his men. Suddenly, they were wondering if they were on the erasure list or how close they had come to losing their systems in the System wars.
They had been discussing how to handle this sensitive information when Manman broke in and immediately burst into tears as if she was experiencing the worst pain ever known to man.
Weijun remained in his chair, behind his desk.
His men stood five feet away from the desk, holding still and silent.
"Leave us," he ordered calmly.
They left, but pressed their ears against the door. Only Cross acted nonchalant, leaning against a wall and crossing his feet. In his ears were two ear phones and his mouth was stretched into a sly grin.
None of the others knew that he had dropped a small listening bug in the office on his way out.
Inside, Manman walked towards the desk, her arms stretching into what looked like a hug position.
Weijun held his hand up, gesturing that she stay where she was. His eyes remained frosty. "I told you not to come to my office ever again. What are you doing here Manman? Do you even realize what a difficult position you are putting me in by simply showing up at City hall?"
Manman cried louder, like she was at a funeral. "You are raising your voice at me. You never used to do that."
Weijun grimaced. "Because you never used to do stupid things like this before. You used to be sensible. You could always see and understand the big picture." If anyone outside his family should have understood the need for them to keep a distance right now, it was her.
Why was she becoming more and more irritating every time he saw her now? He had his own difficulties to deal with and she was magnifying them.
Manman was also thinking in the meantime. She was thinking about his coldness towards her. The old Weijun would never have used the word ’stupid’ when talking about her.
It had to be that unlucky Tai Liwu, she must have called her stupid around Weijun. Just when was Weifeng returning to take over as Liwu’s husband?
She sniffled and ceased her crying briefly. In a soft voice, she whispered. "Sorry, I was not thinking straight. I was desperate and in a hurry because my mother is suffering. Tai Liwu ordered the doctors to conduct all sorts of tests on her. They have not stopped since then. Mom has been dragged from one room to another and poked by all sorts of needles. Do you know how much blood has been drawn from her so far? I think they want to kill her."
Weijun frowned. He wondered if Manman had made sense of the situation before running to his office in tears. "Manman, you called me and told me that your mother was sick and dying. You said the doctors at the local hospital in Beijing could not find out what was wrong with her. You begged me to get her into the Lotus Innovation Medical Hospital which has three doctors that happen to be system hosts and world famous experts." He sighed. "What did you think those doctors were going to do to discover her unknown illness? They are going to have to conduct different tests on her. So, what is the problem? In my opinion, you should be grateful to Liwu. How many people out there have a full team of medical experts working on their case on someone else’s bill?"
"I....I...." Manman stammered, voice still small. She was confused on how to react to this. But she was determined not to lose. In this Chapter, she was the innocent flower and Tai Liwu was the villain. So, she lifted her head slowly and sniffled, "Weijun, I understand that you are married to Liwu so you must defend her, but you cannot act blind some things.
Testing to discover illness is fine but my mom is being treated like a dummy for everyone to prick as they please. Every other hour, someone comes for blood. She was starved for seven hours yesterday. It was probably on Liwu’s orders."
Weijun slammed his fist on the table. "Then leave the hospital," he bellowed. "The tests are meant to help your mother. If she cannot stand it or follow doctors orders, she can leave the hospital and find a more comfortable one. It is that simple." He gestured to the paperwork on his desk. It had everything from licenses, crime reports, Bureau updates to business reports. "I am a busy man. You forced your way in here to cry about something irrelevant.
It is working hours Manman and I was working! I really don’t understand you anymore. Maybe its because we have not seen each other for two years or maybe things have just changed. How did not realize that you cry a lot and you can be unreasonable?
What happened to the strong and independent woman you used to be? What happened to your wisdom? How do you not see that you are adding to my problems instead of helping me? I don’t know what is going on but I think we both need to evaluate our friendship."
In no world did she have the right to force her way into his office as she wished. It was disrespectful. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Friend...friendship." Manman whispered. He had not said relationship but friendship!! A relationship was ambiguous but friendship was a box that one ticked when filling in forms for the Bureau.
Weijun pushed a button on his desk and the door to his office slid open.
Four eavesdroppers fell inside.
