The Strongest Gun Magus: I Cast Bullet!-Chapter 32: An Entirely Unnecessary Fight
After casting a single glance at them, Reynard instantly evaluated the people present.
The bystanders were insignificant. None of them was in a hurry to get involved in another person’s love spat, especially since the man involved looked wealthy.
The man wasn’t just wealthy, though. He was hiding his aura, but he was definitely a magus. Reynard didn’t recognize his face, so he had to be from another town. He probably hid his aura to avoid paying respects to the Blue Bismuth School.
The woman was beautiful, and when she noticed Reynard, she looked at him with clear hope in her eyes. No doubt, she was a local who recognized his robes and thought a magus like him could protect her.
’There’s no reason for me to get involved. I might end up in a fight with a magus of unknown strength and possibly charged with whatever collateral damage we cause, even if I win. However... Wow, this chest... It’s really something else... How she got it so... Bouncy?’
Reynard stepped forward and pointed a finger at the traveling magus.
"Stop accosting this lady! Can’t you see that she wants to do nothing with you? What kind of miser asks back for gifts, anyway?"
The magus scowled, releasing the woman momentarily, only for her to immediately dash out of the way and to a nearby alleyway. From there, she watched the two magi with wide eyes.
"Whore!" he swore. "Is this the man you cheated on me with? Well, after I break his limbs and cut off his scepter, you will have no choice but to crawl back and beg for forgiveness!"
"Hey, take back these words! Every woman is a queen!" Especially ones so beautiful and—
Reynard had to take back these words when he saw the traveling magus raise his hands into a spellcasting stance. The man’s aura flared out, and Reynard felt his stomach lurch.
He was a First Cycle Albedo!
So equal to Reynard in theory. In practice, Reynard had become an Albedo magus so recently that he only knew Nigredo spells anyway.
He released his aura, too, and raised his hands for his own magic. The traveling magus’s eyes widened in shock, but he didn’t retreat.
A massive bolt of ice flew from Reynard’s hands.
It hit a massive red flower that rapidly grew out of the dirt in front of the traveling magus and knocked the magical plant down. Even still, it tried to get up and do whatever it was made of.
The bystanders shouted in alarm and rushed to a much farther safe distance. People closed the shutters on their windows, but a few eyes were visible from the cracks between. Someone called the guard, but it wasn’t anywhere in sight.
Reynard shot another bolt, this time of fire, and the enemy magus raised another flower in front of it. This time, Reynard’s bet was true—the flower caught on fire and was destroyed entirely.
The first flower rose after all and spat out a few small needles from its center. The shot went wide, but Reynard could tell that the flower would eventually recover more.
The enemy magus smirked, then went through the same gestures as before.
’These spells are nothing like what’s taught in the Blue Bismuth School...’ Reynard thought, watching the magus carefully.
He was repeating the spell so often that Reynard had a feeling he might actually memorize it.
That was why Reynard just threw another bolt of fire, then moved to the side before the only living flower could aim at him.
The enemy magus didn’t seem to catch onto his plan. He scowled in frustration when another flower of his was destroyed, then tried to speed up his casting—and miscasted the magic entirely instead.
’I get a feeling that this guy is a moron despite being an Albedo magus. Or is this just the only spell he knows?’ thought Reynard, redirecting his Fire Bolt at the last moment.
Instead of hitting the magus, he singed off several petals of his flower, forcing it into recovery again, but intentionally not killing it.
The enemy magus resumed casting flowers more slowly and carefully. Just what Reynard needed to see the spell better!
Three more destroyed flowers later, Reynard thought he almost got it. However, the magus lost patience and began casting another spell.
"Well, you aren’t of use to me anymore," said Reynard, pulling out a pair of guns from underneath his robe.
This took much less time than casting a spell.
BANG!
The paired shots hit the magus straight in the chest, sending him to the ground. His unfinished spell dissipated in the air, but the magus himself immediately began to rise.
An Albedo-stage magi was nothing like a Nigredo-stage one. Something like a bullet couldn’t actually kill him! 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
When the magus rose, Reynard also saw some kind of armor underneath his tunic. However, he had an answer to that, too.
It was another pair of guns that was staring at the man’s head. While the magus was standing up, Reynard had approached him to deliver his best tactics so far.
"I will shoot you until you die, asshole!"
BANG!
"Agh!"
A shot hit the man’s forehead, leaving a red hole; another missed and cut off a part of his ear.
The magus fell again, but—a testament to the strength of an Albedo magi aura—he was still alive.
’He’s as tough as a Forge-Boar! Although... He doesn’t have enough toughness to keep being a danger while I’m shooting him down!’
Reynard raised a new pair of guns.
"No! Please, I surrender!" The man locked his hands together in a gesture of surrender of the magi because they couldn’t cast spells in it. "I beg you, spare my life! I will pay for it!"
Reynard pointed a gun at the man’s head and another at his fingers.
"I don’t entirely believe you won’t attack me while my back is turned, so I will break your hands. But pay me a small compensation of fifty gold pieces, and I will leave one of them intact so you can at least wipe your ass. For a hundred more gold pieces, I will let you choose which hand. So?"
