The Strangers - Across the Silent Heartbeat-Chapter 26: The Re-Union
Chapter 26: The Re-Union
The whirlwind tour of Visakhapatnam has invested Ayesha and Arjun with memories that are destined to endure for a lifetime. They have come back home and life is slowly sliding back into the routine. Laughter and the excitement of their recent adventures were replaced with the soothing monotony of daily life. Amidst all this came a surprise, waiting for Ayesha round the corner, to flood a new wave of joy into her life.
It was just another afternoon when she got a message from Saira, her best friend, whom she had left back in Bangladesh. The message read: "Guess what? I am coming to India to meet you!"
Ayesha's heart simply stopped, as she could not believe what her eyes were reading and, within moments, replied with excitement, "Are you serious? Exactly when are you coming?"
Saira replied, "Coming tomorrow early morning. Just can't wait to meet you!"
The next morning, Ayesha woke up with a flutter in her chest. She had shared the news with Arjun, who was feeling equally elated. They both went to the airport to welcome Saira.
She could hardly sit quiet while waiting at the arrival gate. "I can't believe Saira is really coming here," she said, her eyes sparkling.
He smiled and held her hand, nodding his head. "It'll be great, you two have a lot of catching up to do."
Finally the moment came. Saira surged her way out of the crowd, after which she looked around for some familiar face. Her eyes landed on Ayesha. She began running to her, beaming with so much love. The two friends hugged each other tightly and warmly.
"Ayesha! I've missed you so much!" exclaimed Saira with happiness as teardrops rolled from her eyes.
"I've missed you too, Saira!" Ayesha replied with her voice faltering and husky.
Arjun looked on at their reunion with a smile as he was really happy because of the fact that Saira's arrival brought so much happiness in Ayesha's life. Finally, after hugging and a tearful reunion, they all went to Arjun's home, where Saira would stay.
Ayesha and Saira just stuck together like glue for the next couple of days, catching up on old times and making new ones. Arjun loved seeing Ayesha this happy and was more than happy to give them their space but joined in whenever all three were together in the laughter and stories.
One evening, they were lazing in the living room. Saira found Ayesha looking mischievous with her face. "So, Ayesha, tell me about Arjun. What's the story behind how you guys met each other?"
Blushed, Ayesha turned towards Arjun. "Long story, but it all started with a chat app named Strangers. We just clicked."
Saira's eyes widened. "That is wonderful! And now here you are. Quite the fairy tale that has come your way, and here you both are.
Arjun chuckled. "Quite the journey, but I wouldn't trade it for anything."
It was the way Arjun shared his story and bursts of laughter that drew Saira to him instantly. She could understand why Ayesha fell for him. His fineness, warmth, and the look that he laid on Ayesha—full of love and admiration—made more than clear that they were meant for each other.
One afternoon, Ayesha and Saira went out to the local market. Crowded streets, colorfully decorated stalls with flying banners, and the fragrance of spicy street food took over the atmosphere. Ayesha walked Saira through the maze of shops, exposing her to all the different kinds of Indian delicacies.
"Try this, Saira," A said, handing her a piece of jalebi. "This is one of my favorites."
Saira took a bite, and her eyes literally sparkled. "Wow! This is so good, Jenny! I can see why you love it so much."
They wandered around the market, where they randomly walked into this small shop that was selling traditional Indian attire. Her eyes had fallen on this beautiful blue sari; Ayesha couldn't resist trying it on.
Saira clapped her hands together in delight. "You look just like a prince in the medieval ages! Ayesha, you have to get it."
Her confidence was on an all-time high, and Ayesha smiled. "Maybe I will."
That night, Ayesha decided to drape around her what had been the surprise outfit: a saree she had bought. She went into the living room; Arjun and Saira were talking abstractly. Arjun nearly jumped out of his skin.

"Ayesha, you look.. breathtaking," said Arjun, actually unable to take his gaze off her.
Ayesha blushed. "Thank you, Arjun."
Saira smiled and playfully nudged Arjun. "You better keep an eye on her, Arjun. She's a real catch."
He grinned, his hand extending across the space to where her hands were placed. "I know. I'm the luckiest guy in the world."
The days passed in shades of laughter and stories, an unspoken repair of old and new relationships. Saira's visit had truly been a whiff of joy, a testimonial ode to the enduring power of friendship.
The last night that Saira was in India, they all got together for a farewell dinner. As they sat around the table, enjoying good food and each other's company, Saira raised her glass.
"To Ayesha and Arjun," she said, her voice laced with emotion. "May your love continue to increase and bring you endless happiness."
Ayesha and Arjun smiled back at her, their glasses raised. "To friendship," Ayesha echoed, her gaze locked onto Saira's in gratitude. "Thank you for being here, Saira. This really means so much to me."
Saira nodded, her eyes full of unshed tears. "Anytime, Ayesha. You are family sister to me."
In the great end of the night, they embraced well, and promised to keep in touch and come over to meet again very soon. The visit of Saira had been an awfully dreary reminder of those fair times' paradise, friendship and ecstasy of meetings with loved ones.
As the cab sped away, taking Saira into the night, Ayesha leaned into Arjun. "I'm so glad she came," she said. "It was just what I needed."
Arjun put an arm around her and pulled her close. "I'm glad she was here, too. Watching you so happy made me realize just how much these relationships matter."
Ayesha nodded. Her heart felt full. Each moved for a moment, working their way to the door before resuming their embrace.
So it was, with Saira's visit etched in their hearts, that Ayesha and Arjun again looked at a future full of hope and happiness, ready to face whatever came their way.
