Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Nancy Miller Looks for Holly Sawyer

The long-unseen Nancy Miller called Holly Sawyer and invited her out to hang out, and Holly gladly accepted.

Inside the dessert shop, Nancy was waiting for Holly for a long time. She gazed out the window with a bewildered expression, her hair slightly messy, and there seemed to be some traces on her face.

"Nancy, what’s wrong?"

Nancy’s expression was off, and Holly noticed it immediately. She frowned slightly and asked with concern.

Usually, Nancy was like an unattainable flower, cool and indifferent, and quite particular about her appearance.

Today’s Nancy was clearly different, seemingly not in a good mood.

"It’s nothing, I ordered something with white peach oolong flavor for you."

Nancy shook her head, raised her chin to signal Holly to sit down, and there was a hint of bitterness in her eyes.

Nancy remembered very well that Holly liked things with a white peach oolong flavor.

Holly was her friend, or perhaps her only friend, and she felt very comfortable when spending time with Holly.

"Thank you."

Holly thanked her but didn’t start eating right away, instead observing Nancy seriously.

"I only have you as a friend, so when I’m upset, you’re the only one I can turn to. You don’t mind, right?"

Nancy took a deep breath, slowly started speaking, her tone flat.

Yes, because of her personality, she never really had friends, and those who tried to befriend her eventually backed off because of it.

Perhaps her personality wasn’t pleasant at all; at least, that’s what she believed.

"I don’t mind."

Holly shook her head.

She quite liked Nancy, not because of the subtle blood connection, but simply because she liked Nancy as a person.

Everyone likes beautiful people, Nancy was beautiful, and Holly felt that Nancy suited her well.

"My dad had an affair..."

Nancy took a sip of her drink and started speaking slowly, her voice very soft.

Holly couldn’t tell if Nancy was bothered, sad, or hurt from her tone.

It seemed only flat, as if discussing someone else’s business, as if it had nothing to do with her.

"Are you... okay?"

Holly gently bit her lip and asked softly.

She wasn’t very good at comforting people and didn’t know if Nancy was truly unaffected or just pretending to be.

"It’s fine, it was expected."

Nancy shook her head, her tone still very calm.

She had anticipated for a long time that her so-called father could do such a thing.

Her mother...

Living each day like a nanny, unkempt and not taking care of herself, it was only a matter of time...

They say wealthy men tend to stray, and Miles Miller was just that kind of person, Nancy understood this well.

"What do you plan to do?"

Holly asked.

Miles was also her father, and she knew about him; his infidelity was not surprising.

"My mom doesn’t know."

Nancy continued to drink her beverage, her voice still light.

She ran into Miles’ situation, but her mother was unaware.

Miles’ lover was very young and beautiful, her face full of collagen, and she had a five or six-year-old boy with her; the three of them shopping together like a proper family.

Miles never went shopping with her and her mother. If there was any need, he would have someone else deliver it, always using work as an excuse.

"Auntie will find out eventually. It’s not worth it for a man like this. Auntie’s heart and mind are all on him, but he doesn’t care about her."

Holly analyzed logically, after all, paper can’t wrap fire forever. Wendy Wright would find out about it sooner or later.

Wendy was devoted to Miles, not knowing that his heart had long left her.

"I know, but my mom..."

Nancy shook her head, her tone slightly tangled.

Yes, she had tried many times to persuade Wendy, but Wendy’s heart was all focused on Miles.

Divorce was impossible for Wendy, and finding out about Miles’ affair would only devastate her.

"Love isn’t everything, no one will die without someone else; a person can live well on their own."

Holly took a sip of milk tea, eyes on the liquid inside her cup.

In fact, her mom did have feelings for Miles too, though she wouldn’t admit it. When her mom left, she left so confidently, but turned and shed tears.

It was tough, but bearable.

The two fell silent, Nancy staring out the window in a daze, her mood fluctuating.

She had lived with her mother since childhood and only returned to the Miller Family later. By the time she returned, she had no feelings for Miles, and his constant claims of being busy with work, spending little time with her, didn’t help.

——

In the afternoon, Holly went alone to Miles Miller’s company, wearing sunglasses, pretending to be there for an interview.

This afternoon, coincidentally Miller Group was hiring, interviewing for a receptionist.

Holly managed to slip through with a fabricated resume, sitting at the very back as there were quite a few people ahead of her.

She looked around at the company’s environment; it was left by her grandfather, and she aimed to take it back for her mom.

With her current status, she could easily deal with a small company, but she wanted a complete company, not an empty shell.

"Nancy, why are you..."

After parting with Holly, Nancy thought for a long time and decided to come to the company to find Miles, only to see Holly with a resume.

"Your resume..."

Looking at what Holly was holding, she frowned slightly.

Usually, college students only started internships in their fourth year; second-year students should be on campus unless Holly was exceptionally outstanding.

"Shh, I’m just here for some fun."

Holly blinked, hiding the resume behind her back.

Nancy was a bit puzzled: "Huh?"

"I want to meet your father."

Holly stated directly. Since coming to Bexley, she hadn’t met Miles but now suddenly wanted to.

"Ah, okay."

Though Nancy was particularly clueless, she agreed without a second thought.

Holly gave her an inexplicable sense of trust.

"Aren’t you going to ask why?"

Holly asked.

Nancy agreed too readily, without any hesitation.

"I happen to be going to see him too, we can go together."

Nancy shook her head, said.

As they passed a trash can, Holly casually tossed her resume into it. Nancy led Holly smoothly to Miles’ office.

Nancy rarely went there, but everyone at the company knew her because Nancy was very beautiful and had great poise.
