The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 153: Preparing to Leave
On the day Holly Sawyer left Bexley, she got up early. No one came to see her off; parting is indeed a sad thing.
No banquet lasts forever; everyone has to part ways eventually. Though Holly Sawyer had only been in Bexley for a few months, she managed to meet quite a few people.
"What’s wrong, bro?"
Leo Grant was walking when he suddenly paused, his eyes fixed intently on his phone screen.
Holly Sawyer looked at Leo Grant in confusion.
"He messaged me."
Leo Grant showed the phone screen to Holly Sawyer and slowly explained.
The phone screen had a clear message:
[I cleared some obstacles for you.]
The message was from Sean Grant.
Holly Sawyer remained silent; she hadn’t interacted much with Sean Grant and didn’t really know him well.
"Ah, it’s really hard to leave Bexley."
Noah Raines yawned, looking reluctant as he spoke.
He turned back to look at the blue sky, the towering skyscrapers, and the familiar scents that filled the streets.
Living here for five years has created some feelings, denying them would just be a lie.
"I bet it’s someone you’re unwilling to leave behind."
Nathaniel Shaw placed a hand on Noah Raines’ shoulder, teasing and shaking his head.
He, too, felt a pang of attachment to Bexley.
"Get lost, get lost."
Noah Raines smacked Nathaniel Shaw’s arm, stubbornly denying his claim.
The truth is, it’s hard to leave Bexley, and it’s also hard to leave Nancy Miller.
Nancy Miller is the only person over the years that Noah Raines truly clicked with; it’s fair to say it was love at first sight.
It’s not like he hadn’t met women prettier or more elegant than Nancy Miller, but none ever caught his interest like she did.
"So, are you planning to give up without making the next move?"
Nathaniel Shaw wasn’t angry; he raised his eyebrows, staring directly at Noah Raines.
As a long-time friend, he could definitely see through Noah Raines’ subtle feelings.
Noah Raines fell silent.
Nancy Miller was pretty outgoing around Holly Sawyer, but with others, she was rather aloof.
Her reputation as the aloof campus queen of Veridian wasn’t unwarranted; she was widely known as the cool goddess.
She liked to keep to herself and enjoyed peace; it seemed she was always immersed in her own world.
"She resists love, even belonging to the group that rejects marriage."
Holly Sawyer lazily lifted her gaze, speaking slowly.
Her arm was looped through Leo Grant’s, wrapped in a thick coat, looking quite petite.
Whether Nancy Miller likes Noah Raines is irrelevant now; even if she does, she wouldn’t agree to be with him.
She fears love, fears marriage.
Only by dispelling those thoughts within Nancy Miller could she perhaps consider a relationship.
Noah Raines raised his eyes to look at Holly Sawyer, "The heart is made of flesh, persistence pays off, I believe I can do it."
Noah Raines spoke with conviction.
"Good luck to you."
Leo Grant pulled Holly Sawyer into his arms, speaking softly.
Noah Raines: "..."
With Leo Grant’s words and actions combined, why did it feel like Leo Grant was belittling him?
Belittling him for not having a girlfriend, belittling him for being single.
Nathaniel Shaw chuckled softly.
"And good luck to you too."
Leo Grant turned his gaze to Nathaniel Shaw, speaking in a flat tone.
Nathaniel Shaw: "..."
No, he doesn’t need it, not even a bit.
He knew perfectly well what awaited him when returning to Arkenfall.
"I have a girlfriend; you guys should hurry up."
Leo Grant tightened his hold on Holly Sawyer a bit, slightly curling his lips as he said lightly.
Hmm, he stood before two single men, feeling somewhat superior.
Noah Raines: "..."
Nathaniel Shaw: "..."
What’s up, looking down on single people???
"Now that it’s winter, it’s time to find someone to keep your hands warm. I’ve already got someone, when will you?"
As if feeling the initial statement lacked impact, Leo Grant added another line, a hint of pride in his expression.
He’s someone with someone to keep his hands warm through winter, and that’s quite something to be proud of.
Although he was the one keeping her hands warm, it didn’t stop him from feeling happy.
Noah Raines and Nathaniel Shaw both stared silently at Leo Grant.
If looks could kill, Leo Grant would’ve been sliced into a thousand pieces.
Holly Sawyer nestled in Leo Grant’s arms, stifling her laughter.
"Holding your girlfriend during winter, it feels really nice. I think you should give it a try."
Leo Grant felt the previous three sentences weren’t enough and added another.
"Leo Grant! That’s enough!"
Noah Raines was almost at his breaking point, glaring at Leo Grant, wanting to tear him apart.
Really infuriating.
"I think our friendship ends here."
Nathaniel Shaw’s mouth twitched involuntarily, as he slowly released a statement.
Ah, at this moment, he felt that even brotherhood was such a flimsy thing, better to go without it.
He didn’t need a brother who flaunted his love everywhere; he only wanted the brother who used to be single and hadn’t even a mosquito for company.
"Brother is right; you both should get girlfriends."
Holly Sawyer echoed Leo Grant’s words, a faint smile in her eyes.
Noah Raines: "..."
Nathaniel Shaw: "..."
They used to think this young girl was harmless, her innocence and cuteness endearing, but now they didn’t feel that way anymore.
"Brother, I want candied hawthorn." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
From a distance, Holly Sawyer spotted a vendor carrying candied hawthorn near the airport, pointing in the vendor’s direction.
"Stay put, I’ll go get it for you."
Leo Grant buttoned Holly Sawyer’s coat and adjusted her scarf, then strode off towards the candied hawthorn vendor.
It was quite a distance; Holly Sawyer didn’t need to move, he’d buy it for her.
Holly Sawyer’s eyes crinkled with a smile: "Okay."
Noah Raines and Nathaniel Shaw exchanged a glance, knowing they had just been fed a feast of dog food.
"If not witnessed with my own eyes, I really couldn’t imagine the owner of The Pantheon being such a soft, sweet girl."
Nathaniel Shaw looked at Holly Sawyer, slowly speaking.
If it weren’t for Leo Grant, they probably wouldn’t have the chance to know in their lifetime.
"Sometimes disguise can be the best protection."
Holly Sawyer smirked, knowing Noah Raines and Nathaniel Shaw were Leo Grant’s good friends, there wasn’t much she couldn’t share.
She’s always been good at pretending; she could be a sweet bunny or a fierce wolf.
But the emotions she showed in front of Leo Grant were genuine; maybe one truly turns into a child before someone they like.
"Noted." Noah Raines gave a thumbs up to Holly Sawyer, "But, about your lollipop..."
Noah Raines stopped mid-sentence, curiously watching Holly Sawyer.
This lollipop matter she still didn’t quite understand to this day.
