The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 149: Jade Bracelet
Inside the box lay a jade bracelet, glowing with a translucent light, and judging by its appearance, it seemed to be quite old.
The bracelet was entirely red and looked very beautiful.
"Mrs. Hayes, what does this mean?"
Holly Sawyer closed the box, looking gently at Mrs. Hayes.
She didn’t quite understand what Mrs. Hayes meant, since the jade bracelet seemed very valuable, likely passed down through generations.
It could probably be considered a family heirloom.
"It’s for you."
Mrs. Hayes patted Holly’s hand, speaking slowly.
"It’s too valuable."
Holly declined, not understanding why Mrs. Hayes would give her such a precious item. She felt that she couldn’t accept it without earning it.
Although Mrs. Hayes watched Leo Grant grow up and had a deep bond with him, giving Holly such valuable items didn’t seem right.
"I’m not the one giving it to you, I’m just relaying it."
Mrs. Hayes shook her head, knowing that she was just a housekeeper, not someone who possessed such valuable things.
She had simply spent a long time with Leo, and he regarded her as family.
Holly looked at Mrs. Hayes, puzzled: "Then it’s from?"
"It was left by Leo’s father. Their relationship has always been tense..."
Mrs. Hayes gently shook her head, speaking slowly with particular softness.
Leo’s father couldn’t have been completely devoid of feelings for him; he just wasn’t good at expressing them. Leo was a bit aloof, and their relationship had always been strained.
This was left by Leo’s father, knowing that if he gave it directly to Leo, Leo wouldn’t accept it, so he left it with her.
He said to give this jade bracelet to Leo’s future wife.
"Mrs. Hayes, you should tell Leo about this."
Holly shook her head, lightly biting her lip.
Mrs. Hayes could pass it to her, but it should go through Leo first, otherwise, he wouldn’t even know about this.
"I, sigh..."
Mrs. Hayes let out a heavy sigh.
She initially thought about letting Leo keep the bracelet himself, probably because he held grievances against his father and always refused to accept it.
"I’ll talk to Leo."
Holly smiled slightly and took the bracelet.
"Dinner’s ready."
Leo brought the dishes to the table, arranging them.
"Coming!"
Holly smiled sweetly, running towards the dining room.
There weren’t many dishes on the table: shrimp, stir-fried pork with green peppers, sweet and sour pork ribs, and a plate of greens.
The dishes looked quite good, tempting one’s taste buds, though it was uncertain how they would taste.
"Wow, they look so delicious."
Holly looked at the dishes on the table, her eyes lighting up instantly.
They looked very appetizing and alluring.
Thinking that these were the results of Leo cooking for her for the first time, she felt even happier.
It’s wonderful.
Mrs. Hayes was originally invited to join them for dinner, but she declined, saying she didn’t want to intrude.
"Try it first?"
Leo handed chopsticks to Holly, speaking slowly.
Having tasted it himself, the flavor was okay, but he wasn’t sure if it suited Holly’s taste.
The first time cooking for Holly, he felt somewhat anxious, fearing the young girl might not like it.
"Okay."
Holly accepted the chopsticks, picked up a piece of meat, and put it in her mouth, chewing, and then nodded slightly.
The taste was fine, better than she had imagined.
"How is it?"
Leo watched Holly with some nervousness, his tone gentle.
Afraid she might not like it.
"It’s delicious."
Holly’s eyes were bright, looking at Leo, her eyebrows curved.
Leo’s first attempt at cooking for her had turned out very well.
She wondered how long Leo had been learning to cook so well.
"Really?"
Leo smiled; receiving the young girl’s praise meant the world to him.
"Really."
Holly smiled, her eyes curved.
Leo peeled the shrimp for Holly, the movement fluid as water, now used to peeling shrimp for the young girl, effortlessly.
"Brother’s cooking feels tastier than the dishes outside."
Holly blinked, looking seriously at Leo.
Because Leo made it, she felt the taste was uniquely delightful, and she liked it very much.
"I’ll cook for you often."
Leo gazed affectionately at Holly, speaking slowly.
He planned on cooking for Holly often; as the saying goes, to win someone’s heart, you have to appeal to their palate.
The young girl was quite a foodie, and if he didn’t learn to cook, how could he keep her close?
Leo suddenly had a thought: to learn cooking expertly, ensuring he could satisfy the young girl’s appetite.
Now in the beginning stages, he could only make a few simple dishes, needing much more practice in the future.
Leo suddenly regretted not learning cooking earlier; had he learned before, he wouldn’t need to do it now, and could instantly serve the young girl a feast of overwhelming proportions.
Holly laughed, happiness shining in her eyes: "Great."
For the rest of her life, she hoped Leo would accompany her, and naturally hoped to keep enjoying Leo’s cooking.
The meal quickly passed, and Holly continued watching TV on the sofa.
Leo cut up the fruits for her.
"Brother, let me show you something."
Holly suddenly sat up straight, looking at Leo with a hint of mystery.
"Hmm?"
Leo looked at Holly, puzzled.
"Look."
Holly took out the box, placing it openly in front of Leo.
Leo looked at the somewhat familiar box, lightly furrowing his eyebrows, suddenly feeling a sense of unease.
"Looks nice, right?"
Holly opened the box, revealing the jade bracelet, taking it out and gently shaking it in front of Leo.
"Not nice."
Leo frowned, dismissing the idea of it being nice.
He knew this supposed item from his father was actually given to Holly by Mrs. Hayes; he had always refused it, unexpectedly, Mrs. Hayes gave it to Holly.
"But it really is beautiful. I’ve never seen such a pretty jade."
Holly blinked gently, speaking slowly.
Such jade was indeed rare, hard to come by.
The entire piece was beautiful.
"Be good, let’s return it, and I’ll get you something even nicer."
Leo lightly rubbed Holly’s head, his tone gentle.
He could buy something better for Holly.
"But brother, I just like this one."
Holly held the bracelet tightly, speaking earnestly.
"Just like liking you, there’s no substitute for you."
Holly looked into Leo’s eyes, speaking with particular sincerity.
