The Smiling Death-Chapter 367: Strategy (1)

Inside Roland’s house.

The main elders of the village or rather, the strongest people of the village, were sitting on chairs around a rectangular wooden table. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Among them, Amon and Scarlett were also seated side by side. He was quite confused about why he was here anyway.

There was Malphas, Roland, Kael, Ria, Silvana, Karen, Mark, Ophir, Cecilia, and two more.

And then there were Amon and Scarlett.

Amon could understand why Scarlett was here, since she was really strong. But him? He was not strong. He was weak compared to all of them. This was supposed to be planning for the incoming battle.

It was very important, and being here as the youngest felt really weird.

Of course, if Amon considered both of his lives, he might match their age. But in both lives he had lived from childhood. So it was natural for him to still have the brain of a young, energetic man, not some indifferent, weird, mature, boring guy.

Amon really tried to make excuses for his personality, which was not mature.

"Why am I here?" he asked while leaning toward Scarlett.

She frowned slightly at his words. Turning to look at him, she said, "It’s natural... since you are one of the biggest reasons why we found a way to escape... I mean, it’s Vetaal... but it’s also you who believed in him, and you being the reason he woke up from his deep slumber."

"She’s right, Amon. You deserve to be here. So don’t think of yourself as low."

Amon straightened his back when he heard the strong voice of Mark, the beastman who was Ethan’s father.

"Thank you for thinking of me so highly." Amon never forgot to express his gratitude, either for help or compliments.

’Guess I am really a lucky man,’ he thought with a smile.

Meanwhile, Roland observed everyone who was present there.

"All of you already know why we are here."

Then Roland looked above.

Vetaal was floating in the air.

Then his gaze turned back to the people sitting at the table.

"As you can see... we are getting closer to our goal. Now what we really need is perfect planning during the fight... and deactivating those towers."

Everyone listened to him while nodding.

Roland put both of his hands on the table’s surface.

"Our village doesn’t have too many people. The current total number, including children, is 264. But amusingly, most of them were born here."

He took a deep breath, then continued.

"What does it matter? Well, it means they have no experience in fighting against monsters. Many of them did train from a younger age... even ranked up..."

His eyes fell on Karen, Cecilia, Rei, and Silvana, who were born in this village. Yet they were strong and had even ranked up. But they had never fought in a real battle. Even Amon had more experience compared to them when it came to survival.

Roland continued further.

"The total number of people who came from outside currently is... 52..."

Amon and the others showed surprised expressions.

"It’s natural... people here are not getting stuck for just a few years, but for many years... marrying here and having children. It was natural for this place to have so many people. But it is also not a huge number if we think more deeply. Which was a good thing for us," Malphas said to everyone.

"Okay... so what will be our strategy?" Silvian asked while leaning against the back of his chair.

Roland thought about it for a while.

Everyone waited for him to speak.

"There are children... from newborns to sixteen years old... they are around 41. The remaining 173 are all above sixteen years old, awakened, and born in this village... we need to protect the weaker villagers... only take the strong ones with us... but that’s where the true problem comes..."

His eyes surveyed everyone.

Then Malphas spoke.

"We do not know what will happen once those towers appear... I mean... yes, monsters will come out... but there might be a possibility that they would attack the village as well on their way... which will put their lives on the line."

"Not forgetting the way we will go out... even if we are able to deactivate all the towers, how are we going to go out? Will there be some portal? Or maybe we will all just move outside? Or maybe this place will get joined to the outside world?" It was Rei who asked this.

"If we just automatically move outside of this loop, or this place gets joined to the outside world, then it won’t be a problem... but if a portal opens... then how long will it stay open? Also, where might it appear? It might have a particular time. We cannot leave the villagers in the village... it would be crazy if the portal gets shut before they come there," Kael added his own thoughts.

There were a lot of questions before starting proper planning.

Who could answer them correctly?

So all of them, including Amon, gazed up at the floating corpse, who had a creepy smile on his face.

"Well... only you could give us the right answer. Vetaal, what might it be? Do you have any idea about it?" Mark asked him with a smirk.

"Hehe~... well, I knew you people would ask me... I was waiting for it."

"Oh... then care to explain? What do you think?"

Vetaal glanced at Amon. "Yeah, I was going to speak."

Then he gazed at all of them.

"To be honest... even I don’t have much idea."

At his reply, all of them became disappointed. They started to murmur.

"What was I expecting..."

"Guess even he doesn’t know about it."

"It’s nothing to be sad about. We will try to find out on our own."

"What could it be?"

"Tch! Just trying to show off when he doesn’t know anything."

The last line was spoken by Amon.

Scarlett glanced at him with a raised eyebrow.

Meanwhile, Vetaal glared at him dangerously.

Amon ignored those stares and clicked his tongue again.

"Cough! Cough!"

Vetaal turned his attention back to the others and coughed to get their attention.

They stopped talking and gazed at the floating corpse again.

"At least listen to me completely. I said I don’t have much idea about it... but I have a few guesses ... which might be right... hehe~."
