The Smiling Death-Chapter 361: Just Two Of Them
"But it’s quite surprising, you know," Amon said with a thoughtful expression.
Scarlett looked at him with mild confusion. "What’s surprising?" she asked, not knowing what had made him surprised now.
Amon rubbed his chin lightly and said with an amused tone, "I mean... you are the daughter of a Grand Duke. You are a vampire. Yet... you actually treat others... especially me... a commoner human... much better. More lenient."
"Haha..." Scarlett chuckled softly beside him. Then she said calmly, "I guess you are right. If you had met me three years ago, when I was new here, you would have seen me totally opposite to how I am currently. I mean, I used to stay away from everyone at that time."
She looked at the sky while continuing.
"I really hated the idea of living with people of different races. Seeing enemy races act kind toward each other was weird. I even felt repulsive while talking to demons and werewolves. And humans... not like we hate them as much as demons. Still, they always remind us of blood."
Amon turned sideways, looking at her appearance. She was laying at his left side. He did know that demons, werewolves, and vampires never had good relationships with each other.
Even between them, only a few vampires considered werewolves their biggest enemies.
Now that I think about it... there are even werewolves here. But they look exactly like humans... hope while fighting against those monsters during the escape... I can see their werewolf form, Amon thought.
In this village, the rarest races were elves, werewolves, and surprisingly vampires.
According to her, they had been visiting this place secretly from time to time over the years.
Yet only a few of them got stuck here.
Amon looked at her curiously and asked, "What about the other vampires here? You don’t talk with them?"
Scarlett’s cheeks blushed slightly. She replied awkwardly, "Well... I was... kind of arrogant at that time... so I never tried to get closer with vampires... since..."
Amon guessed the reason and asked, "They might be lower ranking? Or commoners?"
She nodded slowly. "Yes... but then I got to know that the last vampire before me who came here was around eighty years ago. And he’s dead. The others are mostly descendants of old vampires. So there’s hardly anyone here who knows me."
She sighed softly and continued.
"But over the course of three years... I did change. Honestly, my position and origin don’t matter here. I got used to this place."
Amon giggled mischievously. "Good thing I came here when you became soft."
She turned her head toward him, facing him again.
"Yeah, you were lucky. Still, I think... you would have still stuck beside me... even with my more problematic persona from a few years ago."
Amon’s lips curved wider. "Hehe~ Of course. I stuck beside you even after all the beatings you have given me."
"Haha~" she laughed softly, her voice light and sweet. "You still take my beating from time to time."
That laugh... that smile...
For a brief moment, Amon forgot how to breathe.
Her cheeks were slightly flushed, carrying a faint rosy tint that made her look even more charming. A few loose strands of her hair had slipped forward, falling over her forehead and partly veiling one of her eyes.
As she laughed, her eyes curved into gentle crescent shapes, shimmering with playful amusement. The soft lift of her lips and the warmth in her expression made the moment feel strangely mesmerizing.
For a second, he could only stare.
Badump.
Badump.
His heart started to beat again. Faster.
The smile on his face vanished as he continued to stare at her dazedly.
At that moment he could think of only one thing.
How can someone be so beautiful...
His dark eyes were glued to her as he became mesmerized by her.
Scarlett noticed Amon staring at her blankly with a dazed expression.
"Amon," she called him calmly.
But he didn’t reply.
She frowned slightly.
"Amon!" she called him again, this time her voice slightly louder.
No reaction.
"Amon!!" Finally she shook him.
"Hah? What?" he finally got out of his trance, asking what had happened.
Scarlett spoke with slight confusion. "Nothing... you were just not replying and looking blankly at me."
Amon scratched his head awkwardly. "Oh... sorry... I was just... mesmerized by you."
Just like usual, Amon spoke without thinking.
"Ewh?" Scarlett was taken aback by his words. "What do you mean?"
Amon spoke honestly. "I mean... you... you just looked so beautiful while smiling. While laughing with nothing to worry about."
He leaned closer to her.
"It’s very rare to see it... and I truly wish to see you like this more."
The more Amon talked, the more her face blushed.
"I... I just can’t describe how I am—"
But he was blocked as her palm covered his mouth.
Scarlett said quickly, "Okay that’s enough... we stayed here for a really long time. Let’s go now..."
Amon held her hand and pulled it away from his mouth. "Why? We don’t have much to do anyway... let’s stay here till evening."
Scarlett looked slightly nervous. "Wh-why? There’s no point in staying here."
Amon suddenly made a pleading face.
"Please! Please Scarlett!" he said while making puppy eyes, holding her hand more tightly.
"Arrghh!" She made a small scream in irritation.
He was doing that again.
By no means did he look cute while doing that... but... for some reason she still felt like he was cute.
Scarlett sighed reluctantly.
"Okay... let’s stay here for a while."
At that moment her face looked too adorable. It was annoyed, reluctant, and slightly red.
Amon grinned brightly.
"Hehe~ you are the best, Scarlett."
He released her hand and then wrapped that hand around her waist, pulling her closer like a hug.
"A-Amon stop doing this!" Scarlett shouted.
But all she did was scream to stop, not pushing him at all, even when she had enough strength to leave his grasp easily.
"Hehe~" Amon just giggled.
In truth, his own heart was beating faster. But he just couldn’t control himself from hugging her.
Just like that, those two remained at that place on the ground, side by side, very close to each other, away from everyone.
