Chapter 154 - 154: Fourth Sister’s Emotional Wound

Kim's appearance had been completely unexpected.

Especially the strange black mist. If John hadn't managed to contain it today, it would've become a major hidden threat. No one could predict where it might show up next.

It was truly troubling.

But there was no use overthinking it now.

John shook his head and returned home, only to be dragged into a room by Alice without warning. Her bright, charming eyes blinked mischievously as she said, "Little John, want to help me with my cultivation tonight? Without your help, I barely make any progress!"

John was stunned, then gave a helpless smile. "Alice, have you forgotten the side effects of our last cultivation session?"

He didn't dare go down that road again so casually.

Disappointment spread across her beautiful face, but a sly idea quickly lit up her eyes. "Then from now on," she declared dramatically, "I'm breaking off our brother–sister relationship!"

"What?"

John looked at her like she was crazy. "What are you talking about?"

Before he could say more, Alice bit her seductive red lips and added, "That way, we can be boyfriend and girlfriend instead! Then... there won't be any more issues with 'side effects,' right?"

She blinked again, seductively.

John could only sigh. Alice, you're too clever for your own good. You even found a loophole like this.

"No way," he said, pretending to be heartbroken. "You'd throw away our sibling bond just to speed up your cultivation?"

"This is to deepen our bond!" Alice giggled, sticking out her tongue. Her words might've been a joke—for now—but who knew about the future?

While they were talking, Kate suddenly barged in.

"Sister Alice, Little John, what are you two doing secretly in here? Add me in!" she said playfully.

If those two were left alone, they'd burn the house down.

John took the opportunity to escape the room.

Alice narrowed her eyes at Kate. "Fourth sister, I was having a great conversation with John. Why did you come in and ruin everything?"

Kate grinned. "Oops, my bad. I apologize—and I'll definitely do it again next time!"

"You brat! I'll beat you up!" Alice lunged at her sister.

The two of them wrestled for a while until Kate suddenly got a phone call. Her expression changed the moment she saw the caller ID.

Alice noticed and asked, "What's wrong?"

Kate's voice turned serious. "Do you remember that guy I told you about from college? Bob?"

Alice raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Oh yeah. Your first almost-boyfriend. The one who cheated before you two even got together. I remember someone crying their eyes out for days!"

Back in college, Kate had gone through an unresolved romance.

There was a guy named Bob—tall, handsome, and president of the student council. He had pursued Kate for a while, and she had liked him too. But out of shyness and caution, she hadn't agreed right away.

About a week later, just when Kate was about to say yes, she found out that Bob was already dating one of her close friends.

Just one week!

Clearly, Bob had never been serious. Thankfully, Kate hadn't given him a definite answer.

Still, the experience had left a deep scar on her youth.

Since then, she'd avoided relationships and poured all her energy into her career after graduation.

"So why bring up that jerk now?" Alice asked, confused.

"He's in New York. He called and said he wants to meet," Kate replied, her voice tense.

It was Bob who had called her. She had no idea how he even got her number.

Alice frowned. "Don't go. If he's showing up now, it can't be for anything good."

"I think so too..."

Just then, John came back, pushing the door open and grinning. "So that's why Fourth Sister always says love is unreliable. You've been heartbroken before! Ha, that's hilarious!"

"Oh my god, Little John! You're dead!" Kate's face turned crimson. "How could you eavesdrop on our conversation?"

It was supposed to be a private moment between sisters. If John found out, he'd never let her live it down.

"I didn't eavesdrop," he said innocently. "The door wasn't fully closed when I left, and I just happened to hear everything."

"I don't care! It's still eavesdropping!" Kate yelled, refusing to be reasonable.

But then, Alice's eyes lit up with a new idea. "Fourth sister, if you don't go meet him, that jerk won't stop pestering you."

"You literally just told me not to go..."

"Let me finish. What if you bring a handsome, successful boyfriend along? That'll shut him up real fast, right?"

"But I don't have a boyfriend."

"Well," Alice said, smirking and pointing at John, "isn't there a perfectly good one standing right here?"

John immediately realized she just wanted to watch the drama unfold.

What shocked him more was that Kate actually considered it.

She looked John over, then slapped her forehead. "Why didn't I think of that? Just look at Little John—he's top-tier boyfriend material. It'd be a shame not to use him!"

John nodded nervously under her intense stare. He wouldn't dare say no.

"Great," Kate said, satisfied. "Now think of an impressive identity—like young entrepreneur, famous doctor, something that sounds powerful."

John nodded again.

Kate then carefully dressed him up, ignoring his protests, and made him wear a crisp white suit.

It was a suit Queenie had bought him during their last shopping trip. She'd said it suited his temperament and made him look elegant.

Elegant? John muttered to himself. What kind of war god wears something "elegant"? Shouldn't it be bold, cold, and badass?
