Chapter 251: Seeing A Future Not So Far Away

Rory walked into the party hall holding Liam’s hand. Their ride there was very silent. Rory wanted to tell him the good news but he looked a lot stressed. she decided to wait till they reach back home.

Maybe he sensed that she was stressed too, but he didn’t let go of her hand. The big hall was filled with people. Most of them were old. She and Liam were the very few young people in the hall.

They went not too early and not too late. Rory expected that they’d be ignored completely. But many came and talked to them.

The past few months altogether have been terrible for them. Although Liam tried to concentrate on business, with the trial going on, they were not in a clear headspace to concentrate entirely on business.

Even in the party hall, they weren’t in the mood to enjoy themselves. They tried to make more acquaintances along the way. It was surprising for Rory to learn how many of those political people knew her grandfather.

Some people from the military-industrial complex were there. After retiring from the military-industrial complex, they’ve assumed high-level positions in various corporations. And they all mentioned her grandmother with reverence and fear. Rory thought she saw relief in their eyes when she told them that her grandmother’s condition hadn’t improved. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

She could sense those guys were not her friends, but it was not hard for them to make acquaintances. Liam stayed close to her, and he also made acquaintances with many of them with them exchanging their business cards.

She knew that she could contact them if there were something that would benefit both of them. There were some who stayed away from them not wanting to mingle with them. Liam took note of them.

She wanted to attend the party for this reason. She wanted to know who can get on their side. This would be pretty important in the future when they develop their business. They will know who to trust and who not to.

Parties are not just for entertainment. It’s where you hustle.

But when a particular couple arrived, everyone around them made a beeline for that couple. Rory looked at Liam with a smirk as she recognized that couple.

Liam held her hand tightly. He had let her go as they were making conversations with other people in the hall. But when he saw Rory’s smirk, he instinctively held her hand.

It’s not a secret that she likes dark-haired guys. That guy who entered wearing a tailored suit had a head full of dark hair that contrasted his baby blue eyes. To add to that, he had a thick beard. He knew his wife’s heart would have skipped a beat seeing that guy--Jeremy Fitzgerald, CEO of the Fitzgerald Lumber Corp.

Although he was a titan in the lumber industry, he surprised everyone as he was also revealed to be the lost heir to the throne of Bonivia. He’s a billionaire in his own right.

And he had the older guy charm to him. Men do age like fine wine. And some men more than others. Like the impeccable man entering the hall like he owned the place. Even through his tailored suit, his muscles were discernable.

And his wife was not a simple person either. She owned the Hamilton Glassware company, and she is also the dearest great-granddaughter of Jonathan Erling who passed away some years ago.

Robert Milroy who aided Rory is the friend of Jeremy Fitzwilliam. They wanted to meet each other but there were scheduling conflicts as both sides were busy.

Rory looked at Liam and shook her head as he grabbed her hand. It’s not like she’d ignore her husband and the father of her child and run to another woman’s husband just because he’s handsome.

Well, he is going to be the father of her children. So, it is settled. She didn’t understand why he is so insecure.

Liam is just twenty-five and Jeremy Fitzgerald is in his late thirties. And he inherited a company that already had a name for itself while Liam is just starting his business. Their success cannot be measured in the same way. They are entirely different.

Her heart did skip a beat when she saw Jeremy’s wife Jerlina walking proudly beside her husband. Rory knew Jerlina is a businesswoman on her own, but it was common knowledge that she was very proud of her husband.

Looking at Jerlina Rory aspired to be in that position one day. The position where she is proud of how respectable her husband is.

She knew that one day soon in the future, Liam too will reach great heights. Everyone will seek him out and scramble to make his acquaintance. And that day, she will proudly walk by Liam’s side as only she truly knows what he thinks of each of them. Until then, she will support him in every way she can.

Rory turned and looked at Liam. He was rubbing his chin. Without him even saying a thing, Rory knew that Liam is thinking of growing a beard.

She sighed. How is she going to explain that he won’t look good in a beard? He is blonde.!

Maybe he will look good? Who knows?

Rory then decided to let him try if he wants to. It’s not like he’ll listen to her if she refuses.

"Don’t get so jealous of my lady, Aurora. Goldilocks is not as talented as the man my lady chose."

Rory recognized the voice and turned to her side. "Mr. Gordon Faraday," she smiled. Gordon just nodded but his eyes were on Jerlina.

Rory wanted to snap at Gordon for calling her jealous and for deriding her husband but then she realized that Gordon is just being proud of Jerlina Hamilton.

Ah, I am turning soft, Rory thought. But she was proud of it too. It’s a part of growing up.

"Do I look jealous?" she asked. "I have the handsome husband though," she winked.

She might have grown up a bit but will not allow others to deride her husband. She will never change that part of her.

She loves Liam too much to accept others talking badly about her husband.

Gordon’s attention turned to her, and he looked at her and ended up laughing. Rory laughed along. Gordon had helped her a lot and she can give him some leeway.

"How’s Agnes doing?" Gordon asked. He tried to maintain a careless demeanor, but the stress on his shoulders revealed his anxiety.

"She’s worsening," Rory told him the truth. "She doesn’t remember me at times."

Gordon looked to the front clenching his jaws. And Rory saw the only one person here who managed to ask that question truly out of care for her.

It did seem more than just care, but she didn’t want to think about it.

"Mr. Farady..." Liam came for the greeting.

Gordon nodded.

"I was hoping to talk to you. I want to know... Who is helping him?" Liam asked.
