Chapter 4: Chapter 4: May I use your bathroom?

"You have some free time?" He spat out a few words coldly, "If you're so free, then go and instruct the kitchen to make some ginger tea. She just felt car sick and is uncomfortable."

"Car sick, is she okay?" Mu Fan showed concern and wanted to continue asking, but he felt an overwhelming pressure from in front of him, scratched his head, and obediently said, "Got it, I'll go now."

Once Mu Fan left, Gu Qili quickly withdrew her arm, this time, he did not stop her.

"Thank you." She murmured softly with her head down.

She thought he hadn't noticed her car sickness. Regardless of whether his concern was for show or had another motive, naturally, she wouldn't associate such concern with any particular emotion.

Between them, there was no affection.

He didn't respond at all, as if he hadn't heard, and strode towards the living room with long steps.

"Mu Shuoqian."

His steps paused, and he stood still with his back to her, tall and erect.

"May I use your restroom?" Gu Qili asked, her cheeks burning slightly with embarrassment.

In the Mu family's old house, each member of the Mu family had their own private room. Even though they had moved out and didn't live there anymore, the rooms were kept to facilitate their rest when they came home.

Because of the car sickness, she still felt terribly nauseous, with something constantly surging up in her stomach. There was a bathroom on the first floor, but it was busy with people coming and going, which she found inconvenient.

Actually, after she spoke, she immediately regretted it. Given Mu Shuoqian's cold and indifferent treatment of her, he was likely not to lend her the bathroom but to say something spiteful instead. In the end, she was probably just humiliating herself.

After waiting a while and about to give up, she saw him return with long strides, walking ahead silently and headed straight upstairs.

His room was on the second floor.

Gu Qili hesitated for a moment before catching up, evidently taken aback by his agreement and feeling unexpectedly flattered.

Until he took out his keys and opened the door to his room, she was still somewhat dazed.

"Not coming in?" His voice was so cold it sent shivers up one's spine.

"Thank you for this." Gu Qili quickly walked into the bedroom, not daring to look around; she immediately found the direction to the bathroom. In the corner of her eye, she quickly glanced around the room. She had never been here before, yet the feeling of déjà vu hit her face-to-face, making her feel somewhat strange.

He seemed to be waiting outside the door, and she heard the sound of a lighter flicking.

Turning on the tap, the gushing water drowned out all other sounds.

Having not eaten anything, she retched for quite some time without throwing up much, her throat feeling both dry and bitter, tears gathering at the corners of her eyes. She rested against the washstand for a while before feeling better. Although she only threw up bile, she felt much better afterwards.

On the washstand, there was a glass cup, washed very clean, with a new toothbrush and toothpaste inside it.

She glanced at the door, knowing he was not watching her, emboldened herself to take out the toothbrush and toothpaste and leave them on the washstand, and used his cup to rinse her mouth.

"I'm fine now, thank you." Her just-washed face radiated youthful vigor, the skin a moist and rosy hue.

He had just finished his cigarette, didn't even look at her, and closed the room door directly.

She wondered what kind of treasures he had inside that he needed to guard against her like that.

Upon returning to the hall, the meals in the dining room had already been served, and a group of people were sitting around the table, their gazes instinctively landing on them.

Mu Shuoqian sat down at his spot with a nonchalant composure, still with that everything-is-beneath-me indifference, simply greeted Mu Haotian with a "Dad."

And then he casually pulled out the chair beside him.

Gu Qili braced herself and sat down, greeting everyone present.

Aside from Mu Fan who was grinning, no one truly welcomed her.

In the Mu family, she was truly a superfluous presence.
