Chapter 69: Kim Sangmin: You can learn to be anything (2)

Ah... these same old, boring white walls...

"Young master."

"What?"

"It’s Madam. She wants to talk with you."

Immediately upon waking up after his blackout, he found himself in a hospital, as always. His personal doctor stayed at their house, so he never knew why they had to admit him into a hospital every single time. They had everything they needed at home too, right?

Taking a minute to care, Kim Sangmin finally accepted the phone given to him by the bodyguard with both hands at his bedside.

"Hello."

"I told you not to cause trouble and injure yourself again, didn’t I?"

Not even a simple greeting...

"Tell them to stop getting on my fucking nerves then."

Kim Sangmin almost shouted with the remaining anger in him. His mother, hearing his tone, instantly changed hers in case he became too agitated and caused his breathing to struggle too.

"Alright now, don’t waste your breath on others. Your health should be your first priority in any matter, you know that."

"Hearing people speak makes my health deteriorate more than anything!"

"Next time, I will be more careful in not letting anyone speak to you or the people next to you. Alright, now calm down."

Sitting up on the white sheets, he glanced around the hospital room connected to a restroom for the visitors. Seeing no signs of anyone visiting, he asked in a low voice.

"Will you or Father not come and see me this time?"

As busy and in love as his parents were, to sometimes forget about him completely, one of them would always visit him whenever he was admitted into a hospital.

"I just left the hospital an hour ago. You weren’t waking up, and I couldn’t stay any longer, so I had to leave. I saw that you were deathly pale. You lost so much blood... Make sure to get the blood transfusion—I don’t want to hear any complaints."

Kim Sangmin’s gaze dropped to his arm. He stared at his arm bearing bruises along the pale skin, overlapping marks from repeated IV lines and needle punctures. The sight made his stomach turn, a wave of irritation and disgust rising uncomfortably within him. His fingers, curved around the smartphone, twitched slightly, resisting the urge to pull away before anyone could touch him again. After a long pause, he agreed half-heartedly.

"Fine. When are you coming back?"

"That... your father and I are going on a business trip for the next two months. We will probably see you after that. Eat well and don’t stress about anything. I got it under control, okay?"

"You should have woken me up to say goodbye in person at least..."

"I know! I regret it now! Whew... my bad, son. Your father just organized another event for you to make up for the disturbance. After you have recovered, you can make up for it. Isn’t that great? Yes, yes, I will leave you to rest now. Take care, son!"

The call cut. He had heard his father’s voice faintly from behind his mother, urging her to let him rest. Kim Sangmin stared at the black smartphone in his white hand as he spoke out.

"What happened with Bong Shik?"

"Madam took care of it. You don’t have anything to worry about, young master."

The bodyguard at his side answered stoically.

"How?"

"The Bong family demanded six billion won in compensation for the burns. Madam paid them—and has now demanded sixty billion won for endangering her son’s life."

"So they’re the ones suffering the consequences?"

Kim Sangmin’s lips raised a little as he sat back on the hospital bed and gave the smartphone back to the bodyguard as he spoke. The thing was that, despite having a big mouth, the Bong family wasn’t that well off. They might even go into debt with only this much...

"Call the nurse. I want these removed instantly."

"Madam has instructed me against it."

Keeping his hands together in front, the bodyguard remained unmoving. Kim Sangmin stayed calm for a minute, pressing his head with the finger pads of his left hand, his right arm entirely numb and sore, attached to multiple medical tubes.

"Call the nurse for me."

He spoke again with composure but didn’t even receive a response this time. He silently turned to the bodyguard and glared at him.

"Are you deaf? I told you to call for the nurse."

Bowing with half his body bent, the bodyguard backed away and left the room through the door. Kim Sangmin resisted the urge to pull out the things in his field of vision, closing his eyes to just endure it, as always.

*

"Sixty billion won is much too low to ask in exchange for endangering my life. I’m the sole heir of the second richest family of the country! They should have asked for six hundred billion won!"

"That would be too excessive, young master."

"..."

Dumbfounded at his helper’s response, Kim Sangmin stared, forgetting to even take his pick of the hot soups out of today’s menu. The helper’s expression didn’t change.

"How is that excessive? He talked shit about you and Lester when you both have never provoked him!"

"His statements didn’t affect me personally. I just don’t have the heart to be angry with people like him. That’s just who I am."

"Good for you, truly..."

Huffing and puffing, Kim Sangmin pouted slightly, eyeing the menu, but then muttered out thoughtfully.

"How do you do that? I want to be like you too."

Everything would be so much easier if he didn’t react to others’ provocations and end up getting hurt in the process.

"Let’s just say that if we’re kind and polite, the world will be alright. At least, that’s how I think. It has always worked out for me."

Shrugging nonchalantly, she replied, still not giving him any real instructions.

"Then how do you become kind? Learning to be polite is easy—it can be learned—but learning to have a kind heart... is that even possible? I just have a weak heart."

Kim Sangmin frowned deeply, annoyed by his own deduction.

"I will have seaweed soup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They all taste the same anyway. Bland hot water..."

"How is it bland? They add salt and many other ingredients."

Smiling at his behavior, the helper collected the menu from him but didn’t immediately leave. Tilting her head, she pondered over something and then spoke out, having made up her mind.

"I think reading about protagonists with a kind heart will help you learn how to be like them. You can read how they react to different situations with a calm and collected heart?"
