The Runic Alchemist-Chapter 705: The Alliance & The Demons 4
Chapter 705: The Alliance & The Demons 4
He could somewhat handle the giant snake alone, but Thaddeus Seablaze would never accept that without a bloody battle—it was better for Land-breaker to be here to not get into a fight. Damian nodded at the emperor and opened a waygate connecting directly to the Land-breaker.
In a second, a tall man dressed in a casual white shirt and black breeches flew out of it. They didn’t have to say anything as Land-breaker sensed the enormous dragon and looked straight at it with his hands crossed.
Damian was confused—why did he not sense the guy appearing from a distance? He couldn’t have just teleported here. For Sea Snake to travel so fast here from Faerunia—assuming he came after Mindseer mentioned Land-breaker’s name—it was near impossible even with that weird water creature traveling skill of his. What more secrets was the old snake hiding?
The Land-breaker said not a word and summoned his enormous soulbound blade.
"Woah! There is no need for weapons, I am sure no one is here to fight.." the dragon emperor said awkwardly.
It was a sight to see and made Damian smile even in this situation. If the Sea Snake wanted trouble—Damian should show the guy what he would face.
Damian created some giant light laser runic circles, then turned his face towards the sky and launched the massive beam of hellfire along with all the lasers placed at a distance from each other—dispersing the dark clouds and the rain that came with it. The emperor stared at Damian with his mouth wide open; even the enormous eye of the Sea Snake shifted its focus from the Land-breaker to Damian.
The message was clear: he wouldn’t just fight the Land-breaker. Damian was right there. And just at that moment, Vidalia and Ilvanya flew out of the hole in the building, stopping beside them. Damian had cancelled the giant air step spell since the rain was gone. That was not a skill by Sea Snake—if it was a skill, Damian wouldn’t succeed in dismissing it with just a few lasers and a hellfire beam. It was just the effect of the enormous snake’s presence. Unlike Land-breaker, the guy put no effort into hiding his boundless aura and mana.
The mana rivaled even Sulthar. The aura was uncomfortable for even transcendents.
When the Land-breaker started slowly rising his own aura—only then did the Sea Snake pull his presence back a little and change his form from the enormous snake to a powerful human. He was old, but not aged. The guy was built like a pugilist, rivaling even Bonecrusher’s physique—big white beard and mustache, long white hair with a blue glistening spiky crown on his head—his attire was like an armored general, only the armor was pure white—full sacrium plate armor. Now that was what a king should look like. The emperor should take some notes.
The dragon emperor had finally resumed breathing—the fight between two fourth rankers would have removed this city from the map of this world without any signs left behind. He looked to the side at everyone, though his gaze settled on Damian as if asking him to come along to greet the terrifying dude high above. Damian chuckled—that made the emperor only more annoyed as he glared at him. Still, Damian accompanied the guy as they both flew closer to the massive white-armored king of Faerunia.
"Your Highness Thaddeus, what is the purpose of your visit? Have you come to take part in the alliance meeting?" the dragon emperor said, showing quite bravery.
Thaddeus Seablaze did not answer and just stared at them, his green eyes older than oceans. Only after a full minute did the guy say with his gruff, heavy voice,
"What are Highswords doing here?"
"Saving humanity," Damian replied. "That is the aim, remember?"
The Sea Snake glared at Damian. He also responded in kind—not backing down at all.
"Well, if you are here for the meeting, then follow us," the emperor interrupted them and started flying back towards the high building.
Thaddeus followed behind, Damian joined after. Seeing them come back, the elves and Land-breaker entered the building through the broken ceiling. Land-breaker and Sea Snake kept staring at each other till they all were seated once again—none said anything though. This time, even the emperor joined them below the small elevated throne platform. Eleven people seated in a circle—the pressure in the large hall was so high the emperor had to send his people out away from there. Now only the strongest were present in the room.
It was the emperor who initiated again—for a guy clearly scared, he was indeed showing quite a brave face.
"For the first time in history, we had more power on the border than the enemy—it is time we gather together and finish this for once and all."
The empire facing the demons was the one most eager to get rid of them. The guy had done a lot to save his people for the past who knew how many decades; he couldn’t back out now.
"Why should I help you?" Thaddeus Seablaze said, his tone not serious at all. His eyes were on his daughter, who had her head down in shame. The blue-robed female mage tried her best to ignore the father and daughter.
"Because the demons don’t care if it’s the empire, Dawnstar, or Faerunia. Because we are supposed to care for our people," Ilvanya replied rather sharply.
"If you care so much about your people, why do you not kneel before me? It is obvious; if you need protection from me, help from me to keep your land safe, then you have to call me your supreme." All eyes turned towards the bulky white-armored old man in maybe his 50s or 60s.
"The alliance had only one rule," the emperor said with more anger than he probably should have used, "..deal with the demons first, then we decide who deserves what."
"Let it go, kid," Land-breaker interrupted. "That man had long since closed his eyes to everything other than his own never-ending greed for power."
