The Runic Alchemist-Chapter 508: Picking Up People 2
[Arena Colosseum, Unknown Planet, Alex's POV.]
The towering bug monstrosity landed one of its massive black legs right on their heads, forcing them to jump in all directions, breaking their formation. Before they could get up, a splash of bright green acid followed the simple attack of the monster, covering a large area that none of them could run past in time. The crowd cheered wildly at their dire situation.
Evante screamed hard, releasing powerful sound waves that made a hole in the oncoming splash, but it was still not enough—even a drop could burn a hole through their bodies.
Alex gritted his teeth. He had to use it.
Quickly, he grabbed the runic tool with his left hand and channeled his powerful second-ranker mana into it. Suddenly, a gigantic wave of water pulled itself out of the runic tool and materialized in the form of a massive snake, made entirely of water. The water snake's form rivaled that of the emperor-ranked beetle.
The loud cheering of the crowd suddenly died down to barely mumbling whispers.
The massive snake coiled around Alex, Maelor, Karl, Evante, and the one pigman they had adopted into their group, successfully saving them all from the splash of acid.
In the next moment, the snake roared at the giant beetle. The beetle showed no fear of its new enemy. Leaving Sam and the others behind, the water snake and the beetle charged at each other, the audience resuming their loud cheering.
The entertainment they had been robbed of was back again.
Alex and the others mended their wounds and breathed in relief after fifteen minutes of struggling against the emperor-rank beetle.
"Why didn't you use it earlier?" Karl asked, catching his breath.
Alex stared at the massive snake fighting the beetle, striking its shell with vengeance. "My father can sense it.. And I was saving it to use for escape," he replied.
"We can still make a run for it," Evante suggested.
"Not with these things on our necks," Alex said. He had already squashed that hope. Only if he somehow figured out how to get himself out of these chains could he even think about escaping from these bastard pigs.
The colossal black beetle screeched, its mandibles clacking as it spewed a stream of hissing green acid. The liquid splashed through the massive serpent's body—but the water snake merely rippled, the acid dissolving harmlessly into its ever-shifting form. Unfazed, the serpent coiled, its fluid body surging like a living tidal wave, crashing into the beetle with crushing force. The insect skidded backward, its legs gouging deep trenches into the land as it fought to stay upright. With another shriek, it lunged, its pincers snapping shut—only to pass through empty water as the snake split apart and reformed behind it. In an instant, the serpent struck, a spiraling vortex wrapping around the beetle, pulling it into a suffocating, inescapable whirlpool.
However, before they could see the end of the battle, the bright blue sky suddenly turned pitch black. The skies rumbled, and massive arcs of bright blue lightning flashed across the dark clouds.

The weather changed in seconds. That could not be normal. And he was proven right as, in the very next second, a massive explosion erupted in the distance, shaking the very land they were standing on with shockwaves. The beetle was thrown out of the vortex, but the water snake was right behind it, coiling itself around the beetle's massive body, slowly crushing it and breaking its shell apart with loud, unpleasant noises.
Just as Alex and Maelor balanced themselves from the aftershock, another massive explosion went off, this time far too close, breaking the massive circular stone arena structure they were in the middle of, from one side.
The screams of thousands of pigmen being crushed gave Alex a cold, satisfying pleasure.
Alex grabbed his sword and ran into the clear, dodging and slashing through the debris flying all around, the others following right behind him. His aura-clad sword and Karl's aura punches cut through stone, while Maelor used a wind spell to displace all the dust clouds, working perfectly in synergy. The second Alex came into the clearing, he finally saw what it was that had suddenly changed their lives—for better or worse.
A towering swirling darkness—no, it was a man. A gigantic, over 900-meter-tall abyssal-dark figure, black menacing smoke rising from its body, its massive limbs throwing rustic dark brown balls of energy everywhere. Its figure was humanoid, but the rising black smoke made it look more like a towering mountain than a man. Its two shifting, ominous, bright blood-red eyes were unmistakable, though. It was no monster.. A man. Or a pigman. Alex was not sure.
One massive hand of the dark figure grabbed both the beetle and the water snake, raising them up and crushing them effortlessly. Alex, along with every single living thing in the colosseum, froze on the spot, not even daring to breathe—lest the darkness come alive, hear them, and launch another rustic brown energy ball in their direction.
The red mist eyes of the gigantic dark figure shifted here and there. Then, suddenly, Alex felt a gut-wrenching sensation from the side. Even the darkness noticed it, and its big, misty red eyes settled on their group.
Seconds later, a bright blue waygate materialized beside Maelor, and Alex wanted to curse Damian's seven generations right there and then. What fucked-up timing did this guy have?! However, it had already happened, and nothing could stop it. Soon, two figures stepped out of the waygate and took in the surroundings, their eyes widening, hands gripping their weapons tightly.
Seeing Alex and the others, Damian shouted aloud, "Hurry! Jump inside the waygate right now!"
Alex did not wait even a second and made a run for it, followed by Maelor, Karl, Evante, and even the pigmen—who didn't understand a word but still wanted nothing to do with the monstrous dark giant while his buddies were running away.
The last thing Alex saw as he jumped inside the waygate was Damian's hand stretched forward, the land glowing golden, two massive circular golden runic circles—the same as the ones on his tools—shining bright, protecting everyone from a massive rustic energy ball about to hit them all. The next second, Alex's vision changed, and with a gut-twisting tingling effect, he landed atop a weird brown giant monster's dead corpse.
