The Royal Mark-Chapter 402: Slip of the Tongue
Everybody looked at Chris when he uttered the wolf pup’s name. Yakobo barked, prompting everyone to look at him.
"Did you see my drawing, Mr. Chairman?" Rocco asked.
"Y-Yes... That’s why I immediately recognized your pet because your drawing is so good and it looks exactly like him," Chris replied.
"Did you hear that, Mommy? Mr. Chairman said, my drawing is good!" Rocco exclaimed making Elsa chuckle.
"Yes, I did and I agree with him—"
"Ma’am, you have a visitor, he said his name is Dr. Jai Chaudhary," Roxanne, the housekeeper said.
Marina and Elsa gazed at each other, wondering what made him go there.
"Let him in, Roxanne."
The atmosphere was very awkward the moment Jai entered the door, which he also felt since everyone was staring at him without saying a word. But his audacity is thicker than his shame so he invited himself in and approached Elsa.
"What are you doing here, Jai? Did you forget to tell me something? You could just have called me. I told you I have visitors today," Elsa said.
’I was sure she said ’visitor’ and not ’visitors’. If only I knew that Marina would be here too, then I wouldn’t have come,’ Jai thought.
"Ah... Uhm... I was on my way to Marina’s house to check on her but saw that your gate was open and decided to see the kids before I went to Marina. But I guess I don’t have to since she’s here," Jai reasoned.
"Oh, that was so thoughtful of you, Jai. Maybe you could take Marina home. I ordered her to rest and not to roam around," Elsa suggested.
"Jai! My friend! You haven’t had dinner yet, right? Let’s just stay here since my fridge is empty. I heard from Elsa’s nanny that she would cook steak tonight," Marina announced.
Marina and Elandir wanted Chris to act fast to get Elsa back into his life, and seeing Jai just gave her the perfect idea. She would use Jai to make Chris jealous so he would not waste any time in getting closer to Elsa and hopefully, that would make her remember the love of her life.
What Marina said was music to Jai’s ears and that’s exactly what he wanted. He would not allow his boss to get close to the woman that occupied his heart for years. He had lost her once to the father of her children and he would not allow her to be taken by another man this time.
"Sure, if it is alright with Elsa, then I would love to stay. I love her cooking, so, I wouldn’t want to miss it," Jai replied.
Elsa looked at Chris, and Chris understood what she wanted to say. It was supposed to be just the two of them together with the kids. But then, they are neighbors now, they will have another chance. For now, he will let it be and will use it as an excuse to ask for another dinner with her in the future.
Chris shrugged and smiled at Elsa and she pouted playfully before mouthing ’I’m sorry’.
"Fine... All of you can stay. Good thing I asked Roxanne to buy a lot. Stay here, I will start cooking," Elsa said.
"Let me help, Bestie," Marina offered, with a plan in mind to use her condition to ask Chris later to replace her because her wound was starting to hurt.
"No, you stay there. Sit like an obedient child on the sofa and wait for the food. I know that you have high pain tolerance but I am really worried. So, please just stay put," Elsa asserted.
"She’s right, leave it to me. I will help her," Chris stated.
Jai frowned and quickly interjected, "I will help too!"
"Dr. Chaudhary, how about you stay with us? Our investor has a great idea earlier and I want you to hear it and tell me your opinion. As the CEO of the hospital, I believe that we should take Marina’s idea into consideration for I think it would help our hospital a lot, especially your department," Elandir quickly declared and signaled Marina to say something.
"Right... I have an idea. Come and sit here with us so we can discuss it," Marina said. ’
The fuck! I don’t have an idea! Why say that it’s mine when he could just think of something else!’ Marina screamed in her mind.
"Let’s go..." Chris whispered to Elsa. He placed his hand on the small of her back when she turned around as they went to the kitchen which Jai clearly saw.
Elsa’s house has an open kitchen, living, and dining, so Jai could see whatever Chris and Elsa were doing from his spot.
"Mommy, we want to help too!" Daisy said.
"Alright..." she replied to Daisy before turning to their nanny. "Wena, could you help the children set the table, please?"
Wena nodded and immediately took the children away from them.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t expect Marina and Jai will come here," Elsa told Chris.
"I don’t mind. You and the kids are here anyway, so, I’m good. But, of course, you know that this doesn’t count right? You still owe me," Chris reminded her.
Elsa laughed, "Okay, this doesn’t count. I am free this weekend if you want me to repay you. Since I believe you will be doing some moving in tomorrow, right?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Weekend it is then. It’s a date. Wear something formal, I’ll take you to a good place," Chris said, winking at Elsa.
"Wow, Mr. Chairman you are so swift, huh? I thought you didn’t know any good restaurants in the area?"
"I didn’t this morning. But after you left, I searched online and I found one. I think you will like it there."
"We’ll see, but do they really have a dress code? I don’t like wearing dresses."
"Since when?" Chris casually asked.
"Since after I had kids, it’s hard to move around when I am with them. Plus, I haven’t tried wearing one after the accident."
"Don’t worry, any dress will look good on you. You’ll be fine."
"How can you be sure of that?" Elsa asked.
’Coz, I’ve seen you in one multiple times,’ he thought.
"Because you are beautiful no matter what you wear, my love. Trust me," Chris uttered, absentmindedly as he removed the meat from its packaging while helping Elsa.
"What did you just call me? Did you just call me ’my love’?"
Chris’ eyes widened in surprise, he was not expecting that slip of the tongue.
