Chapter 39: Destined Soulmate

The healers and water mages took turns closely monitoring Elsa’s condition, and Chris was content with their swift responses whenever her temperature spiked. Chris kept a vigilant eye on anyone approaching Elsa.

[I’m furious, Christopher! These humans are boldly whispering behind our backs as if we can’t hear them! Do something! Rip their throats out so they can never speak again!] Yakobo angrily exclaimed.

Throughout their journey, humans constantly gossiped behind his back. Some suggested that he might jeopardize the alliance between Arcanis and Zemaria due to his newfound mate, with Princess Hera still missing. Others speculated that he would proceed with the alliance, considering his need for Zemaria’s support against his uncle, King Alaric Jorgensen, and even potentially making Elsa his mistress.

’Let’s ignore them. I have no time for such petty rumors. My primary concern is our mate. Consider this their lucky day. If our mate was not in this condition, I would have certainly taught them a lesson they’d never forget,’ Chris replied to his irate wolf.

"Prince Christopher, come quickly! The lady and her dog have awakened!" called out one of the soldiers. Chris had been washing his hands in the river just after their evening meal when he heard the summons.

Elsa and Nuri finally regained consciousness on the third day of their journey. He immediately rushed back to their camp and found Elsa seated inside their tent as soon as he entered. Nuri seemed noticeably more lively than Elsa, causing concern for Chris.

"How are you feeling, princess?" Chris inquired as he gently touched Elsa’s forehead to check her temperature. The healer frowned hearing the Prince of Arcanis call Elsa ’Princess’.

"I’m thirsty. Where are we? It’s quite warm in here," Elsa responded, removing the blanket and cloak that had covered her.

The healer responsible for monitoring Elsa at that moment promptly handed Chris a glass of water for Elsa to quench her thirst.

"We are on our way to the Rügengard Castle in Zemaria," Chris replied as he helped Elsa hold the glass of water.

"More..." Elsa drank the water in one go, yet her thirst remained unsatisfied. She consumed three more glasses before finally feeling content.

"Are you hungry? You’ve been asleep for three days; you must be starving," Chris remarked.

The healer acted swiftly, offering, "I’ll fetch some soup and fish for her; she shouldn’t consume too much solid food just yet."

"Three days? That’s why I’m so thirsty. I can’t believe I’m still alive without any IV fluids connected to my veins," Elsa exclaimed in surprise.

"IV what?" Chris inquired, unfamiliar with the term.

Elsa smiled, recalling that Chris was not from her world, "Never mind. What happened to me?" she asked Chris, but Ciel chimed in with an answer.

"Well, to put it simply... You and Nuri didn’t quite meet in the middle, and boom! You exploded," Ciel vaguely explained.

Elsa blinked at Ciel, not comprehending her words and uncertain about what to ask.

"Princess, I believe what Ciel was trying to say is that you lost control of your powers back then, and it resulted in a forest fire," Chris clarified.

Elsa’s eyes widened, her eyebrows shot up, and her jaw dropped in astonishment before she quickly covered her mouth and nose with both hands.

"But don’t worry, the water mages swiftly took care of it, extinguishing the fire in no time," Chris reassured Elsa, noticing her concern.

The healer returned with food, and Elsa’s mouth began to water as she realized just how hungry she was upon smelling the food. When the healer placed the bowl of soup and the plate of fish in front of her, she eagerly reached for the spoon but faltered. Her hands trembled, and the spoon slipped from her grasp.

Seeing Chris’ worry, the healer explained, "That’s alright, Your Highness. It’s perfectly normal to have shaky hands after waking up from a long sleep. She’s still weak and hungry. I can assist with feeding her." The healer then reached for another spoon and was about to sit beside Elsa when Chris quickly grabbed the spoon from her.

"I’ll handle this. You can wait outside. I’ll feed her myself," Chris asserted. The healer nodded and exited the tent. Chris tasted both the soup and fish, causing Elsa to tilt her head in confusion.

"I thought you were going to feed me. Why are you eating my food?" she inquired.

"I’m just checking for any signs of poison. Many humans here are not pleased with the presence of my mate. Their princess is my betrothed, and they are aware that a werewolf never turns away from their mate," Chris explained before beginning to feed Elsa.

Elsa remained unresponsive to Chris’ words, unsure of how to respond. But she definitely wants some alone time with her dogs and when she gets the chance she will ask them a lot of questions.

Elsa observed Chris blowing on each spoonful of soup, ensuring it wasn’t too hot for her. In return, she obediently swallowed everything that Chris offered her.

As Chris reached for the plate of fish, Elsa extended her hand and said, "It’s okay, Chris, I can manage to eat this one on my own."

Chris promptly moved the plate out of Elsa’s reach, saying, "Nope, just leave everything to me. You’re still weak, and I want to ensure you recover as quickly as possible."

Elsa genuinely felt the truth in Chris’ words and decided that arguing with him would only sap her remaining energy. She observed his every move as he meticulously removed the fish bones before feeding them to her.

"Why are you being kind to me?" Elsa asked out of the blue.

"I’ve told you, you are my mate. I care about you, and with each passing day, I find myself drawn to you even more. I believe that even if you weren’t my mate, I would easily fall for you," Chris replied without hesitation. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Elsa fell silent in response to his answer, causing Chris to chuckle. "Are you satisfied with my explanation, princess?" he inquired.

"I still don’t understand this mate thing," Elsa admitted.

"Every werewolf is granted a destined soulmate by the moon goddess. It’s like a gift, though not explicitly given. However, we recognize our mates when we smell them, just like what I told you before," Chris explained.

"So, if you hadn’t come to my world, you wouldn’t have a mate, is that it?" Elsa inquired.

"Perhaps, but you see, the gods favor me, and it is our destiny to meet. So, accept the fact that you are bound to me. I will never, ever let you go," Chris declared before reaching for Elsa’s hand and tenderly kissing the back of it.
