The Royal Mark-Chapter 338: Change of Heart
Everyone woke up early to prepare for their journey to the White Shadow Mountain. They decide to eat together at breakfast before they depart.
Chris entered the dining hall last while carrying Rocco. Everyone stood up and bowed at him until he sat on his chair. "I have decided not to bring Rocco with us. Kaizer will go instead, he will be in charge of keeping Rocco’s extracted blood warm to prevent it from freezing.
I also think that my son and my father-in-law should stay in Qiryn while we are away. Even though I am leaving Arcanis in the hands of my Elite Alphas, I don’t want to be too complacent. The demon kingdom is just a river away and they might attack anytime.
Nathan should focus on healing and I am not comfortable in bringing Rocco with us. Without the werewolves’ abilities and the mages’ magic, we cannot guarantee the prince’s safety in the White Shadow Mountain."
Almost everyone nodded at Chris’ statement except for Nathan. "I disagree, the weather in the mountain is freezing negative, how can you be so sure that you could keep the blood in its liquid form?"
"Elsa had planned the expedition herself and everything is already in order. She even prepared plans for the worst-case scenario and even trained some people who would go with us. I think she did it because it was her plan all along to let you and Rocco escape in exchange for her freedom. That is why I will not waste her sacrifices and hard work for my own selfish reasons. I will follow and trust my wife’s plan," Chris retorted.
"If you are really convinced that it will work then I will not argue anymore. But In case this expedition puts your life in danger, I want you to instantly abort the mission and regroup back here. We will think of another solution. All this will be useless if you are dead. Always remember that my daughter is doing this because she wants to keep you alive, so don’t die, Son, understood?" Nathan firmly asserted.
Chris was touched after hearing Nathan call him son, it just made him more determined to wake up those mages and end everyone’s misery once and for all.
He nodded at Nathan and then addressed everyone, "If everything is settled then let’s enjoy our last meal together before we part ways."
Everyone ate as fast as they could, they all wanted to reach the cave of the sleeping mages as soon as possible to finally get the help that they badly needed.
Once done, Chris asked Kaizer and the ladies to take care of the blood extraction of Rocco while he pulled Elandir to a corner far from everyone’s ears.
"Brother, I need a favor from you. This might be my last request from you so you cannot say no," Chris uttered.
"Why are you talking like you are going to die? Hey, didn’t you listen to your father-in-law? You are not allowed to die, at least not yet or anytime soon," Elandir replied.
"I know but this is just a precautionary measure. I need you to stay in Qiryn. I can’t afford to lose you in case our mission fails. If ever something bad happens to me and waking up the divine mages is unsuccessful, I want you to get Elsa from Kurzen and teleport her to Qiryn.
Sneak her out of Vectus together with my son and father-in-law. I will face the consequences myself if ever I am still alive by that time. I also need you to inform Hera about this. I am sure she will not decline my request. She would think the same when the time comes."
Elandir was speechless not because he didn’t know what to say, but because there were so many things running in his head. Even though he wanted to say a lot to his dear friend, he knew that his decision was not easy.
If he were in Chris’ shoes, he would probably do the same. "Alright, I will do as you wish. But I also agree with Nathan, so as much as possible please try your best to not die. I don’t want to see Elsa cry again, just like how she did when she thought you died," he mentioned.
But Elandir swiftly smirked and jested, "Plus, you know your wife. She will only get sad for a short while then will all of a sudden get angry and explode like a sleeping monster inside a volcano. She might not only destroy Kurzen but the whole of Vectus if something happens to you.
She knows this that’s why she’s trying her best to solve everything in the most peaceful way that she can. If she loses you and unleashes her wrath, she might lose herself in the process and I know that you wouldn’t want that to happen to her. So, again, don’t you fucking die, brother."
Elandir placed his hand on Chris’ shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze and Chris nodded with a smirk, silently telling his best friend that he would do his best.
The two then went to the infirmary where Rocco and Nathan were. They saw Rylie putting a bandage around Nathan’s back and chest.
"Is everyone ready?" Chris asked Rylie and Kaizer.
"Yes, Your Majesty. I just finished cleaning up his wounds and also replaced the bandages just like how the Queen taught me. I also have high hopes that his wound would return to normal, and his wings would grow back" Rylie answered.
"We are done extracting the Prince’s blood and he was such a brave boy, he only pouted but didn’t cry. He is just like his father and mother," Kaizer proudly said.
Chris smiled at Rocco who was staring back at him. He carried him and hugged him tight. With one last kiss to his son, he gestured for Elandir to open his portal.
After summoning the portal, Elandir helped Nathan to stand by putting his arm on his shoulder before taking Rocco from Chris.
"Good luck, Christopher. I’ll be waiting for your good news," Elandir said before stepping into the portal.
