Chapter 70: Endearing

"But I don’t think this method will work well," Lydia informed. The twenty year old woman had a tense and concerned expression on her face.

The man in front of her stared at her sternly.

"You’re not here to think, Lydia. I know you have a lot of strong opinions, but here, you got to listen to me. You operate on that man just like I tell you," the man vocalized.

Lydia stared at him hesitantly. "But you know he won’t survive it. You know we can save him by—"

The man grabbed her shoulders tightly and growled. "No, Lydia, zip it. Do you think you know better than me? Who is in charge here?"

"Come over, quickly. His heart beat is dropping fast!" came a call from inside.

As Lydia was pushed into the room, her mind remained fuzzy while she began to operate on the patient. Although Lydia was under the orders to obey the man, she knew it would be wrong to do so.

That man didn’t want to keep the patient alive, but to obtain his fresh heart before it completely shut down.

Twenty year old Lydia closed her eyes and made the decision to keep the man alive. Therefore, with a determined mind, she changed the direction of the operation under everyone’s shocked eyes.

When they were unwilling to follow her, Lydia ordered, "If anything happens to him, I am taking you all down with me to the dungeon, blaming you for sabotaging the treatment."

Underneath her words was the subtle threat, and everyone then abided by her words, following by her orders.

However, just as Lydia thought she reached the final steps of curing the patient, somehow few of the blood vessels ruptured open. The blood splashed out suddenly, catching her off guard.

Lydia tried her hard to bring back the patient’s vitals, but it was of no use.

She shook her head desperately.

This wasn’t supposed to be it.

Only Lydia herself knew how heavy her steps were when she stepped out the room. A hand struck against her cheek, leaving behind a harsh mark, and Lydia could feel the vicious scoldings and accusations towards her.

"I told you to follow by my method! Here, you had to act on your own and kill the patient! Now, this is your responsibility to take!"

The next instant a sharp blade came towards her. Lydia’s reflex worked fast when she raised her hand to block it. The blade inserted into her wrist, leaving behind a deep wound, before the woman attacking her was pulled away.

"Give me back the life of my mate, you murderer! I will kill you!" The woman hysterically shouted.

And then, Lydia was taken to the prison, shut down there for trial to be conducted. frёewebnoѵēl.com

It was there the man confronted her and revealed his scheme: "You’re right. Your treatment could have brought that man back to life. But, Lydia, you need to remember I control everything around here. You will never be able to succeed going against me."

Hearing the story from Lydia made Violet feel heartache. Back then, Lydia was no older than her, and she had to be framed to have such a heavy accusation pushed down on her shoulder.

Violet wondered how she went through it.

"What are you crying for? That bastard was treated worse by me. I personally carved his heart out of his chest while he was wailing," Lydia expressed— her cruelty evident.

"That does nothing to erase from the pain you had to go through," Violet expressed.

And even what she was going through now.

Although the matters against her had been cleared, no one yet dared to completely trust Lydia. Who knows how long this broken reputation will take to be healed?

"No matter what, Lydia, whatever you tell me, I will trust you blindly," Violet added.

"Aren’t you full of sugary sweet words?" Lydia teased.

Violet stared at her firmly. "I mean it!"

When Violet stepped out her room with the bunny, about to take it to Sylas’s room, her steps were stopped by Lucas’s words.

"What’s that? Our dinner for tonight? It’s tiny, but it will work," Lucas commented.

Violet turned to look at him. Her eyes were sharp. "It’s a gift for Alpha."

Amusement flashed in Lucas’s eyes following that. "A pet for Alpha? Princess, he would be better off having that for dinner."

Violet puffed up her cheeks. "It’s cute, and Alpha will like it."

Lucas arched his brow. "Really? How about we have a friendly bet?"

"Fine, deal. You will have to listen to anything I have to say if I win, and by anything, I mean anything," Violet vocalized.

"Other way around as well, Princess. No worries. I will lend you a shoulder if you cry later on," Lucas expressed.

Violet scrunched up her nose before walking towards Sylas’s room.

She extended her hand, knocking on the door.

Upon hearing a positive response from the man, she pushed the door open and stepped inside. Sylas was seated on his desk, going through some important papers.

"Alpha, I got you a gift!" Violet expressed joyfully, holding the bunny in her hand high, while walking closer to Sylas and standing right in front of his desk.

Sylas’s eyes fell on the rabbit.

"A rabbit?"

Violet nodded. "Isn’t it adorable? I caught it earlier today and thought you would like it. I heard taking care of cute pets rejuvenates your mood and makes you feel better. Are you feeling happier looking at this cute bunny?"

Violet’s eagerness and anticipation made Sylas wonder what image Violet made of him in her mind.

"It is indeed endearing, but I don’t think I am quite in the mood for a pet," Sylas pointed out.

His rejection made her eyes instantly droop down.

"But I thought you would really like it, Alpha. If you are busy, I can help you look after it," Violet offered.

Sylas’s silence made her add, "Also, I made a bet with Lucas. He thinks I won’t be able to get you to accept this cute rabbit."
