THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 18: Seeds of doubt
Asher’s POV
I was so pissed off when the people I had sent to bring back Kira came back without her telling me stories that they couldn’t get her from Ryker’s pack. I almost beheaded them for coming empty-handed.
But at least one thing was certain and confirmed that Kira was the moon keeper that was prophesied about. I paced to and fro in my palace room, thinking of how to get her back to Me.
I needed to show my people that I was still the most feared alpha in the whole of the wolf Region.
But the fact that they believed more in the moonkeeper was a big obstruction.
"What’s the problem my dear," Aria asked standing by the side
"They couldn’t come back with her," I said
"Is that why you are bothering yourself?" she asked
"Isn’t it enough reason for me to be worried?" I said angrily
"It is But you shouldn’t be too bothered about"
"How do you expect me to be calm I am slowly losing the respect of my people, they don’t see me as someone to be feared anymore" I said
"Then remind them who you are," she said coming closer to me
"Oh no, Aria, I have told you I can’t do what you want me to do; I can’t kill my people."
"Then you won’t be able to get them to fear you," she said
Aria’s words remained in my heart long after she left the room
’Remind them who you are?’
I clutched my fists. My people had once feared and respected me without having to question my authority, but ever since they heard of this prophecy of the so-called moon keeper, they had begun to have doubt in me and lose faith.
Some even go as far as saying the moon keeper is the one who is destined to rule, that she would be the one to bring balance to the wolf race. If I allowed this rumour to continue it wouldn’t be long before my reign crumbles.
I wasn’t going to let that happen, not when I am alive, not when my blood still runs through my veins.
I was going to use brute force, but I decided to hold on a bit and try other means; using brute force would only make me look like a bad person. I needed another strategy. Someone who would get close to her, someone she wasn’t going to suspect, someone convincing enough to plant seeds of doubt.
There was only one person I knew who could do that.
Mira.
Mira was one of the most innocent-looking people I have ever known, but you would never know she was living a double life, and I allowed her to. It’s like I had always known that a time would come when her double life would be of help to me.
She had been a part of Ryker’s pack, steadfast and faithful, but her loyalty had always been tied to her gain. As at the time, she was faithful to Ryker, she had thought Ryker was the one who could give her what she wanted.
But when I met her, I promised her more than what Ryker could ever offer; I promised her wealth, power and a position that would influence me once my rule had been consolidated.
Despite all this, No one in Ryker’s pack ever suspected she had switched sides. She was playing her rope well keeping her foot in both worlds.
I sent one of my guards to bring her to me immediately.
Within minutes, she was there in the room, her long dark hair flowing behind her. She was dressed in the traditional warrior attire of Ryker’s pack members.
She looked very bit like the devoted member she was pretending to be
"You sent for me, alpha?" She inquired, Bowing her head slightly in respect.
I told her to stand by, gesturing to her. "I have a small task for you, Mira one that you alone can carry out" I said smiling
She smiled Bowing her head slightly again "Anything for you my alpha"
I stood up from my seat, and walked closer to where she stood, my eyes locked with hers. "I need you to infiltrate your former alpha’s pack properly this time. Now, I don’t want you to be an observer, but I need you to become a whisper in Kira’s ears."
I paced around her "I need you to make her doubt Ryker, make her question her safety In the pack" I said calmly
Mira’s smile widened "You simply want me to turn her heart against you so she would be able to come running back to you."
"Well, yes, if you put it like that, that’s all I want you to do. Kira is the key to everything; if I can get her back, my people will fall into place again; they will continue to see me as their one true alpha."
"I see," she said her hands on her waist
"She doesn’t want to come willingly, not if she believes that Ryker is the only one who could protect "
Mira exhaled and crossed her arms. "What exactly do you need me to do?"
I went to my map, where I had pinned Ryker’s location. "You will go back to Ryker’s pack as you’ve always been doing, act as one of them, but I need you to get closer to Kira. Make her your friend if you must. Find any weakness she has, find out how strong she has become... I hear that she’s Been training, finding out about her fears and exciting them. Make her believe that Ryker has his agenda one that doesn’t include her well-being"
Mira places her hands on her chin, thinking, "Hmm, I don’t think that’s gonna be easy. Ryker’s pack is tight-knit, and Kira yes she might look stupid but she isn’t especially now that she’s been evolving"
"What do you mean by evolving" I asked
"I am sorry, my lord; two days ago, while I was at Ryker’s, I saw Kira take down the only female alpha that the wolf race had ever had in a century."
"What did you just say, that can’t be true"
What Mira was telling me sounded more like a fairytale in my ears: Kira defeated an alpha wolf, a mere omega!
"Yes sir, it’s the truth, and that’s why I said it won’t be an easy thing to do"
I exhaled, nodding my head "I know. This isn’t going to be easy, you have to be very careful. Make sure you don’t rush this. Make her see you the way you want her to see you. Plant the idea slowly in her head, let it reproduce; she wouldn’t know when she starts feeling those doubts until she starts questioning everything on her own."
She chuckled "And what if she doesn’t believe me?"
"Then we will force her hand." I smirked "We would fund was to create more chaos, enough complexities that put her life at rusks until she begins to question her safety In the pack until she begins to doubt if Ryker can protect her "
I watched as Mira’s eyes beamed with joy and excitement, "and you would make sure everything you’ve said happens?"
I didn’t say a word, but my silence was louder. It spoke volumes.
Mira laughed sinisterly "This is going to be so much fun"
I studied her carefully for a while; Mira had always shown cunning attributes and attitudes, always looking out for herself only. I was sure that giving her this mission was also a way for me to keep her in check and make sure she was within my reach.
I was a hundred per cent sure that if Kira sensed an opportunity to turn this into her gain, she would take it as she was more worried about herself than others, hence why it was easy for her to deflect after making her good promises and fulfilling most.
"You know what happens if you do this well? Don’t you ?" I asked my voice calm.
She nodded her head "Of course alpha Asher. I do. If Kira turns her back against Ryker, and cones back to you, you win. And when you win, I win" she chuckled
Sometimes, Mira tended to behave like a psychopath, but I was fine with that as long as she remained on my side. Though people would say the fact that she was able to deflect from her true pack also means she could still betray me as well.
J wasn’t bothered about that because I was smarter than Ryker; I don’t trust blindly, and I would end her life before she even thought about returning to Ryker.
I nodded my head, satisfied. "Then you can go now; you have your orders already, do not disappoint me, Mira. I am counting on you."
She saluted me in what seemed to be a mocking way before finally turning on her heels and leaving the room.
Immediately, she left the door closed behind her. I exhaled. This was my only and best chance at gaining control again and I wasn’t going to let it slip away. Once Kira begins to doubt Ryker, it won’t take long before she leaves his pack willingly.
And when I finally have Kira by my side, the wolf race will finally remember who their one true alpha is.
