The Return Of the Invincible Heiress-Chapter 377
Although all the cameras and eyes were on Jaden and Luna, the ten of them remained calm.
After kissing for more than ten seconds, the two finally separated. Jaden turned to the crowd and said, "The award ceremony isn’t over yet. Please continue to pay attention to the event. Thank you."
Then, still holding hands, they returned to their seats. They put on masks and tried not to steal the spotlight from the rest of the ceremony.
As soon as the event ended, they quietly left without accepting any interviews.
That night, Jaden and Luna received countless congratulatory calls and messages, but Jaden didn’t respond to any of them. His family didn’t disturb him either. Only Luna had to answer calls from her family.
She told them, "Find a time to come to Kilmore City. I’ll get Jaden to take you to the family farm."
It wasn’t until the next morning that Jaden replied to all his messages. That evening, he took Luna home for dinner.
His family was already familiar with her. In addition to offering their congratulations and warm wishes, they encouraged her to eat well and visit more often.
No one said anything like, "Jaden, you’d better treat Luna well, or we won’t let you off,"
nor did anyone say to Luna, "If Jaden ever mistreats you, tell us. We’ll make sure to stand up for you."
In the family’s eyes, Jaden was already trustworthy and loyal, someone who would never mistreat her.
If there were ever problems between them, it was something they believed the couple should work through on their own. If the family ever needed to step in, they would do so fairly, without taking sides.
That sense of maturity and propriety made Luna feel very comfortable.
That night, she stayed in one of the guest rooms in the main house.
The next morning, after enjoying a delicious breakfast, Jaden drove her to the airport. She was heading to Dichester to meet with a well-known director about a lead role in an upcoming drama.
However, before they could leave, the family noticed through the surveillance cameras that a large crowd of reporters and fans had gathered outside the villa.
The family shook their heads. "Looks like moving sooner was the right call. At this rate, even stepping out will become a problem."
Jaden looked at Luna and asked, "Would you be up for climbing over the backyard wall?"
Luna’s eyes lit up. "That sounds thrilling. I’m very interested!"
So the family brought out a ladder and helped the two climb over the wall.
They put on masks, held hands, and calmly walked down the back hill, avoiding the crowd gathered at the front entrance. Once outside the neighborhood, they caught a ride to the airport.
By the time Jaden returned to the villa from the airport, it was already well past noon.
After lunch, he lay down to catch up on some rest.
Just as he drifted off, his phone rang.
The caller ID was unfamiliar.
There were too many scam calls these days, so he didn’t answer right away. He waited until the third call came through before picking up.
A young woman’s trembling voice broke through the static and tears:
"Jaden, it’s me... Linda."
Jaden’s expression darkened. He considered hanging up and blocking the number immediately.
But Linda spoke again, her voice panicked.
"I’m standing on the roof of South Lake Plaza shopping mall right now. If you don’t come see me, I’ll jump."
Jaden almost said, "Are you threatening me?" or "If you want to jump, go ahead you don’t need my permission."
But he wisely held back.
His eyes narrowed as he tried to figure out how to deal with the situation.
"I’m not threatening you," Linda said again, as if she sensed his thoughts. "I just want to see you. I just want to talk things through. But you won’t see me... and now I have no other choice."
Jaden remained silent.
"I’m in so much pain," she sobbed. "So much that I want to die. If I can’t see you... I’d rather die than keep living. I might as well just jump and end it all."
Jaden didn’t speak right away.
He simply unlocked his phone and searched online to verify if Linda’s claim about jumping off a building was true.
Sure enough, the trending topics in the city confirmed it.
In numerous photos and videos, a woman could be seen leaning over the railing of the South Lake Plaza shopping mall rooftop. Half of her body hung dangerously over the edge. The mall had five floors about a hundred feet tall making it easy for people below to capture the dramatic scene.
He could clearly confirm that the woman in the photos was Linda.
She wore a flowing red dress, her hair tied neatly behind her head. She lay across the railing, gripping it with both arms. In one hand, she clutched her phone. Below, a dense crowd had formed, with countless people recording or taking photos.
"Jaden, I can’t hold on much longer," Linda’s tearful voice came through the phone.
"I know we’ve been together for a long time. If you really like her... I wish you both the best, you and Luna."
"But our relationship isn’t over," she continued. "I never said I wanted to break up, and I never agreed to it. I just want to see you to talk about everything between us, to bring closure to the years we spent together."
Jaden knew Linda too well.
She was the last person who’d actually want to die. This whole stunt was nothing more than emotional blackmail.
And something she said had bothered him she made it sound like he had been cheating on Luna.
Was Linda recording their conversation to trap him?
Thinking quickly, he pressed the record button on his phone. In a calm, concerned tone, he said,
"Linda, even though we haven’t been in touch for years, and even though you’ve been married and have two stepsons now, I still hope you live well."
