The Reborn Aristocrat's Daughter-Chapter 894 - 413
Chapter 894: Chapter 413
"The Future Father-in-Law" - these four big characters were hopping across Xu Haoyang’s phone screen.
Xiao Shiyao didn’t react at first when she saw these words and didn’t grasp what they meant. She pondered for a moment before it clicked. "Xu Haoyang, who’s calling you?" Xiao Shiyao asked, worried she might have misunderstood and pointing to the still-ringing phone.
Caught by Xiao Shiyao having saved her dad’s contact in his phone under that name, Xu Haoyang didn’t feel embarrassed in the slightest. "It’s your dad calling." However, just thinking about this call from his future father-in-law made him nervous. His palms were drenched in sweat. "Yaoyao, what should I do? Should I take the call or not?"
If it were possible, he really wanted to throw his cell phone far away. To him, the phone was like a ticking time bomb at this moment. He really didn’t want to take the call at all.
Xiao Shiyao seemed to have guessed what Xu Haoyang was thinking. She gave him a light glance and said coolly, "You don’t have to answer it. However, I guess that if you don’t, my dad will rush back. Then, you’d probably get to experience our family’s fitness room. Oh right, you can ask my brothers; they have quite special feelings for the fitness room." Saying so, Xiao Shiyao laughed first.
Xu Haoyang could already picture the scene in his mind. Apart from being unilaterally beaten by his future father-in-law, he didn’t wish for anything else. "In that case, I’d better just answer the phone."
Xu Haoyang managed to pick up the call before the ringing ended.
"Hello." Xu Haoyang’s voice involuntarily trembled.
"Why did it take so long to answer the call?" Xiao Muli on the other end was already impatient. As he dialed Xu Haoyang’s number and it kept ringing without an answer, his mood was close to breaking point.
In his mind, he couldn’t help coming up with various reasons why Xu Haoyang wasn’t answering his calls. None of them could prevent him from wanting to rush over there and show Xu Haoyang why flowers bloom so vibrantly.
Fortunately, just before his patience was completely spent, the call finally got through.
He didn’t let Xu Haoyang get a word in as soon as the call connected, he directly asked.
"I had it on vibrate and didn’t hear it at first." While Xu Haoyang was nervous, his mind was quick, and with a blink, he found an excuse. Only, Xiao Shiyao wondered, in front of her, wasn’t lying to her dad a bad idea?
How could Xu Haoyang not notice Xiao Shiyao’s gaze. But, he had no choice. If he didn’t come up with some lie or excuse now, not only would he leave a bad impression on his future father-in-law, he might even ’lose a layer of skin’.
"Is that so?" Xiao Muli replied coldly.
"Yes, I had it on vibrate during class this afternoon and forgot to switch it back." Xu Haoyang wiped the sweat from his forehead. Good heavens, even over the phone, he could feel the pressure emanating from his future father-in-law. If they were face to face, he probably wouldn’t be able to keep the lie going because he’d be afraid to even speak.
Xu Haoyang’s heart was anxious, unsure if his excuse would hold up. His breathing became overly cautious.
Fortunately, Xiao Muli didn’t dwell on this topic. He had called Xu Haoyang for the main purpose of asking where he was now. "Where are you at the moment?"
"At your doorstep." Xu Haoyang said this with confidence. He was relieved he hadn’t just hit the accelerator and taken Xiao Shiyao out on a date. Otherwise, if he had received this call midway, his whole back would probably be soaked by now.
Hearing that Xu Haoyang was at their doorstep, Xiao Muli’s expression softened a bit. Considering this lad reliable, he hadn’t taken his precious daughter gallivanting outside. "Is Yaoyao beside you?"
"She is."
"Do you know what time it is? Xu Haoyang, Yaoyao is a girl, do you think it’s appropriate for her to stay out so late? And with a man at that, I really don’t feel easy about it." Xiao Muli spoke without any concern for Xu Haoyang’s feelings.
His words were meant to tell Xu Haoyang, I don’t trust you, I’m worried my daughter will be at a disadvantage with you.
Certainly, at this point, Xu Haoyang was feeling guilty. He’d just tasted a sweet moment and was hoping to capitalize on this golden opportunity to taste more sweetness. After a peck on the cheek earlier, could he hope for a kiss on the lips next?
Now that his future father-in-law had vocalized it, he felt very insecure. Still, he managed to say, "Uncle Xiao, you can rest assured when Yaoyao is with me."
"Hmph." Hearing Xu Haoyang’s words, Xiao Muli snorted coldly. If he believed Xu Haoyang, then that would be odd. "Tell Yaoyao to hurry back and to call me for a safety check once home. By the way, come over this Sunday morning; I want to test your mettle."
After saying that, Xiao Muli unceremoniously hung up the call.
Upon hearing this last remark from his future father-in-law, Xu Haoyang’s face drooped completely.
"What’s wrong with you, Xu Haoyang? What did my dad say?" Xiao Shiyao found Xu Haoyang’s expression hilarious. Suppressing the urge to cover her mouth and giggle, she looked at him. "Don’t tell me my prediction was accurate and my dad really wants you to check out our family’s fitness room?"
Xiao Shiyao’s statement hit Xu Haoyang right in his sore spot. Raising his head, those puppy eyes he turned on Xiao Shiyao were as pitiable as they could get. "Yaoyao, you really hit the nail on the head. Your dad just invited me over to ’visit’ your home’s fitness room this weekend. Yaoyao, shouldn’t you compensate me a bit?"
That last sentence was the real reason Xu Haoyang had acted so pitifully for so long.
"What compensation?" Xu Haoyang’s little schemes were obvious to Xiao Shiyao, but she pretended not to notice and asked.
"Well, could you let me kiss you one more time, just one more?" As Xu Haoyang spoke, his face was already moving closer, but before he could get any closer, Xiao Shiyao put her hand up to stop him.
"Xu Haoyang, with your little tricks. You really think I can’t see them? Hmph, you’ve annoyed me. Your assessment period is getting extended." Xiao Shiyao pretended to be angry and looked up, saying.
Upon hearing that his trial period wasn’t getting any shorter and in fact was being postponed, Xu Haoyang howled mournfully, "Yaoyao, no, I was wrong, don’t treat me like this. I really can’t take it."
"One week."
"Huh?" Xu Haoyang was stunned, staring blankly at Xiao Shiyao.
"Keep acting, and your trial period will be extended another week." Xiao Shiyao said triumphantly.
Xu Haoyang dared not speak further; he was eager for the trial period to end soon.
