Chapter 213: A Failed Plan

Kraven chuckled, the deep, rich sound tingling through the air. "I’m afraid she already beat you to it."

Logi narrowed his eyes. "You mean..."

Kraven finally hauled his attention off his sleeping beauty. "She threatened me. If I so much as think of leaving her behind, she’ll hunt me through every corner of the earth and castrate me."

Logi paled. "She didn’t say that to your face, did she?"

"No. But her glares spoke volumes." Kraven mused, mentally reminiscing about the experience.

It happened so quickly, and as soon as the feisty flame came, it was gone the next minute.

"There was a chill in the air, too," he added.

Logi couldn’t help it, a laugh rumbling deep within his chest. "Then I guess Lady Raven has spoken. She would not agree to be left behind after all. It was just a thoughtful suggestion."

"I had that thought too, but then..." He tilted his head to the side. "I wouldn’t get to see how exquisite she looks when she wields her daggers as she cuts down the Serpents."

"Hmm... that’s your cock speaking."

Kraven shot him a dangerous glare that screamed bloodlust.

"Relax!" he chuckled. I’m just trying to lighten the mood." His smile slowly faded as that guilt came back in.

"I failed her," he suddenly confessed the feelings that had bubbled up for days, and ate him alive.

"You won’t get any sympathy from me. You should tell her that, not me."

Logi shrugged. "You’ve kept her pinned to your side for days, forgive me if I haven’t bled my heart to her." He faced her sleeping form. "Or maybe I can’t bring myself to face her."

"I failed her, too, Logi. It took days before I could find her."

Logi shifted his gaze back to him.

"Sometimes I wonder what could have happened if I didn’t get there in time." Kraven’s fists tightened at the idea, his bloodlust scratching at the surface to break free.

The seven gods knew how tempted he was to steal the Stingers’ souls from Daudi and make them relive hell.

"I saw your eyes, Kraven. You unleashed your thirst. I may have been worried about your timing, but I was more worried that when you found her, you wouldn’t even recognise her. What happened?"

"She stabbed me," he replied.

Logi stiffened at his words.

"Unintentionally," Kraven mused. "But that was enough to bring me back." He stared at his hands. "Something changed, too." His dark weaves suddenly coiled around, pulsing like it was alive.

"What changed?" Logi asked, silently hoping it wasn’t what he thought.

"I feel more of my dark weaves, it’s endless, like an abyss. It makes me wonder how deep it stretches."

But Kraven knew what he would find at the bottom, it would be his madness staring back at him, ready to consume every bit of his sanity that was left.

The reasonable thing to do was not to reach that bottom and tread carefully, no matter what, or else it might be too late.

"It’s not like there’s a beginner’s manual when it comes to Shadow weavers. You’re an anomaly. Unlike the other gods, Daudi was never known to bestow his powers to any mortal."

"Which is why it’s stolen power from Daudi. I escaped his Hand and in return, I got this as a curse." Kraven clenched his fist, and the weave dispelled. "My inconsistency in fully wielding my weaves must be a punishment."

"Certainly. And your thirst? How is it now that you’ve more access to your dark weaves?"

"I hear it, but faint. It’s waiting for the right time to strike, only if I don’t reach that abyss."

"Then we shouldn’t worry about you going berserk on us, soon." Logi smiled.

The Raven Court

"What do you mean our plan failed?!" Nyssa yelled, pacing the room agitated.

This was not the good news she had hoped for. Her mood was completely ruined.

She halted, hands on her hips, as she pinned her heated gaze on Dain, sitting on the bed in deep thought.

"Explain this!"

"There’s nothing to explain..." His teeth clenched. "I went to the Hive, there was nothing left of it, only blood."

Nyssa’s features paled instantly. "We underestimated Kraven. But we knew it would eventually happen, which is why they should have finished the job before he found her!"

Dain rose to his feet, frustrated. "I don’t think they did," he confessed. "They didn’t get the chance to."

Nyssa’s cheeks boiled in fury; she was a few seconds away from strangling him with her bare hands.

"But do not worry, Nyssa, days spent with the Stingers were ruin enough," he mused. "By the olden gods, the mannfae should wish she were dead."

Nyssa closed the distance between them in a heartbeat.

Slap!

"Not enough for Kraven to be disgusted and cast her aside!"

Nyssa knew Kraven well enough to know his obsession ran deep. The only way this could work was if the job was finished, but it was half-baked.

"The plan failed."

Dain licked his broken lips and faced her with an unreadable expression.

Nyssa tipped her head. "You took time, too. The deal was that you leave the Court to speak with the Stingers about the offer. You were gone for a moon and a half. What were you doing within that period?"

"I had to make sure the Stingers were guided well for the plan of her abduction. Any mistake could’ve jeopardized everything." He lied through his teeth, keeping a stiff expression she couldn’t unravel.

He did work with the Stingers, but Nyssa had no idea he messed with Logi’s tunnel.

He was following the orders of a higher power.

"You’re useless." She turned to leave, but he grabbed her arm.

Dain’s lips came apart, but the words couldn’t form. It was at the tip of his tongue to tell her everything. To tell her the truth and what was coming.

His teeth clenched as he released her, and he voiced instead. "Tell me, Nyssa. Is Kraven truly the one your heart desires?"
