Chapter 159: When I bleed

"How does Isadora feel going back to Brookcrest? Heard she’s from there," Logi asked hoping to avert the topic before Kraven decided to explore his ways of torture with his body.

Just the thought alone sent a tight, choking sensation through his throat, forcing him to rub his neck in response.

Logi cleared his throat to break the tension in the air.

"Not her Hometown, but where she grew up after her family sold her," Kraven replied.

Logi froze at his words. "Her family sold her?"

"For her worth as a mannfae."

"Alda! And here I thought her fate couldn’t get any worse," Logi said, clicking his tongue as he sat on the stone chair. "She must’ve been through a lot... and with a bonus, the gods damned her with you."

A chuckle forced its way up Kraven’s throat. "The gods despise her the way they do me. We’re the same."

"That is not what I was talking about but it doesn’t matter how twisted you think. She’s an unfortunate soul trapped with you, call it fate but I call it a curse."

"Why the hidden undertones, Logi? Is there something you want to tell me?" Kraven mused, as his eyes blazed with interest.

He was eager to look inside his genius brain and wondered if it’d be the same color as everyone else.

A self-proclaimed child of Visindi—the god of wisdom, must have a different shade.

Logi’s body stiffened at the scent of Kraven’s leaking bloodlust. This put Logi in a difficult situation so he chose silence instead.

Kraven grinned on cue and said. "Did Raviel twist his way to you after what happened yesterday? Let me guess..." He scratched the scar on his underjaw. "He told you the same fate of my mother awaits Isadora, correct me if I’m wrong."

Logi swallowed a lump in his throat. "Something like that."

Kraven chuckled deeply and it soon erupted into a full-blown laugh.

Logi didn’t return the sentiment because it wasn’t funny to him, simply allowing Kraven to bask in his amusement, no matter how twisted it was.

Just when silence took over the place Logi voiced. "How’s the thirst these days? I notice you’re putting much effort into keeping it hidden, especially now you’re intimate with Isadora."

Kraven kept his amused gaze on Logi yet there was something dangerous in his eyes. "Is it obvious?"

"After what happened yesterday?" Logi raised an eyebrow.

"Hmm..."

"Kraven."

"What do you want to hear from me, hm? Do you want to hear about my internal turmoil as I fight my way through the insanity?"

"I’m her dog, Kraven, a dog who is worried about his owner."

"Look who is finally accepting what he is or is that an excuse to hide the fact you’re worried about Isadora? Are you worried I’ll break her neck?"

Logi straightened in his seat. "I’m your pillar, you can’t blame me for trying to keep the building from falling apart. I’m thrilled by your obsession but the girl’s life hangs on a thin thread."

Kraven’s smile slowly faded. "I almost killed her yesterday, I was so close." He recalled how his thirst drove him to the point he couldn’t control it.

He had never resisted the impulse to that point before. It felt almost impossible.

"Alda!"

"But I didn’t."

Logi gulped. Rav’s words were not just out of simple jealousy, it was becoming a terrifying reality.

"I don’t want to kill her."

Logi froze at his confession, slowly dragging his gaze to Kraven, who had a frown on his features as he stared at a distance. He had never seen Kraven like this—torn, confused, and a glimpse of fear.

Kraven unsheathed his dagger, flipping the blade and eyeing it. "Also found out when I’m weak my thirst fades temporarily."

"You mean hurting yourself?"

Kraven pointed his blade at Logi with one eye closed as if marking a target. "When I bleed."

"You don’t feel pain, but your body knows the limits." Logi sighed. "Even if you bleed just to..." he paused, chewing the inside of his mouth. "Your thirst will win, that is your end."

"I know, which is why the plan was to move faster before the deadline."

"It’s not much of a deadline now when you’re constantly using your dark weaves, I’m afraid you won’t have much time left."

"You underestimate me, Logi." Kraven chuckled. "I’ve been in this battle for centuries, the thirst is a friend more than an enemy."

"It won’t stay friendly too long." Logi pointed out. "Especially now you don’t want Isadora dead."

Isadora groaned softly, stirring awake and trying to break out of the comforts of sleep.

But her body felt too tired to move.

She licked her lips, letting the soft fur drown her back to sleep. She tried to shift into a more comfortable position, but her body wouldn’t move. frёewebηovel.cѳm

Isadora frowned, trying again but her body was forced back to that position of lying upright. This time a squeezing pain shot through her wrists when she tried to move her hands.

Her eyes flashed open as she tilted her head, finding her wrists bound by a rope against the headboard.

Panic shot through her body as she tugged recklessly against the tight ropes, the headboard shaking from the friction, but it did nothing to loosen it.

’What’s happening? Why am I tied up?’

Isadora hissed, feeling the sharp pain biting into her skin with each tug, it became a futile attempt because it hurt each thing she tried to twirl her waist.

Suddenly the feeling of eyes on her forced her gaze away from her bound wrists.

Her ambers searched the room erratically for the source of the presence until they landed on Kraven on the couch, wearing an amused expression, and a dark glint in his eyes that caused a deep chill in her bones.

"You’re awake, darling, I’ve been waiting," he said, bringing the cup to his lips. "I didn’t want to disturb you." He took a sip.
