The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 56: Huge Accusations - I
It had taken a lot more time for the prince to walk out of the market when finally I had seen him. He had a blank expression on his face which I did not think much of but when I found no one coming with or behind him I knew that it was a futile attempt to find the girl.
"She was not sold to the market of flesh, was she?" I asked even though there was not much hope visible on my face and my statement was more of fact than an assumption.
He sighed and stood beside me as now both of us looked at the market of flesh.
"What do you think of having luxury brought to you instead of working for them?"
I frowned a little and turned to look at him. "Are we not already doing that?"
He chuckled and a smile remained on his face as he looked at me with the same emotions and a look of longing in his eyes. "Yes, but I know you are preparing to be the queen of the country Astria. I wanted to ask if instead of preparations and learnings, you would just want to become a princess as you would enjoy luxuries and once in a while participate in duties required from you but not as much as of those burdened beneath the crown they wear."
I did not want to assume where this was going but, to be honest, there was only one direction in which this could head to and I did not want to address that.
"Whatever do you mean?" I tilted my head as if I did not understand what he wanted to say and I hope that he had understood the hint I was giving him.
He sighed and closed his eyes. "So innocent you are, so pure." He opened them and smiled, "I am amazed at how innocent you have managed to remain even though you dangle in politics of the royalty often."
I smiled slightly as I told him, "One must not forget who they are at the end of the day. It is our core values that drive us to what we become."
My words have impacted him but how I did not know. He had a slight change of expressions before they went back to the pleasant once he had on his face. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"My country has good war strategies and a great army, powerful and strong enough to destroy anything that comes in their way." He said as he stared directly into my eyes.
"I do know that," I softly said, this could very well be a threat to my own country. "But why are you telling me something that the whole world is aware of?"
"Because I am informing you that if you choose to marry me instead of him, I will make sure that your kingdom is protected the most."
For a few moments, I just stared at him. I had no idea what to say.
Had he suggested something so outrageous and scandalous? A proposal that could put lives at risk and so could be the peacefulness and understanding among countries?
All countries had signed various treaties and they respectful boundaries which were not to be crossed and what he has suggested was doing just that.
I gulped and looked ahead, away from his eyes that were staring at me trying to figure out what I was thinking. I was in utter panic and a rush of emotions. This was one of those areas where I had no idea what to do and that did not happen often.
"You can not offer a proposal officially—"
"This is not an official proposal," he cut me off and waved his hand as if the idea was itself ridiculous. "This is just a conversation I am having with you because I would like to know if you are willing to marry me or not."
Then I shall be honest.
"I am not," I answered him as truthfully and as clear words that I could manage together. "I am sorry for using such impolite words but I want to make it clear as much as possible so that there is nothing left to be misunderstood between us."
"Why not?" He turned to me. "We are certainly better than Astria and in fact, I can make sure that you have every luxury in the world along with your kingdom which should be brought back from the path of ruins."
It was a tempting offer. Something I would have taken with the blink of an eye not knowing the outcome of it but in this case, I knew what exactly was going to happen. This was going to cause a war and people, our soldiers, and our subjects would be at the receiving end of it.
They would be the ones that would be taken as prisoners of war and be killed brutally if they had not managed to kill themselves first. Every outcome, no matter how I looked at at this proposal with, brought only the bloodshed of someone who was not responsible for the decision.
Just because the princes offered me an easy way and life, did not mean I could not let people die because of it.
The impact of an unofficial proposal made by him was running in my mind and I could only imagine if he made the official one and we either turned him down or accepted it, the impacts of this far too great to be contained by anyone.
I shook my head ever so gently even though I was deep inside my thoughts as I answered him, "I cannot do that."
"Why ever not?" He immediately argued, "you do not need to worry about anyone else." Those words made me slightly higher. "No one is stronger than the army of my country. If we take against a whole country or assure you that we will win and there won’t be any harm brought upon yours."
"It is not that." I shook my head again tired of continuing the same conversation with him which he was not ready to accept the answer of. "Do you realize that if I break an oath which was made years ago what impact would it have on all of us because I did it to marry you?"
He shrugged, shrugged he did making my eyes widen. "I suppose all those affected will b3 our subjects and the people that work for us but is that not how it’s supposed to be?"
"It is! But that does not mean that you stop thinking about them all together. They are just as humans we are and it is our responsibility to make sure that they are all well!" I could not believe that this man was a member belonging to the royal family. "How can you say that for the people that are making you the Very royalty that you are!"
His eyebrows dipped slightly and he turned to stand in front of me. "Do you mind asking me where this is coming from?" He tilted his head as if looking for something. "I have never seen a princess behave with a prince like this."
"Like this?" This man continued to shock me! "Your highness you are talking about the people that—"
"You know this very well the royalty does not care about the people because we have got protecting us and any uprising would be suppressed immediately. This is something you are supposed to be aware of like a princess." He stepped closer making me take a step back. "What has made you change your heart about this all princess? What has made you think that people care about their subjects at all?"
Where was he going these accusations are? How had he changed the direction of our conversation?
"What are you talking about?" I asked him with a slightly shaky voice because I, this time, did not know what the prince was talking about.
He smirked. "I will be an honest princess. No one cares about what people think of them especially the royalty given that we have numerous guards, my question is what makes you expect the husband you will have is going to be a caring one?"
What? I gulped glancing away. No when was paying any attention to us and they all carried on to their activities.
Taking a deep breath for the courage I looked into his eyes once again and spoke, "I have heard about his—"
"Ah please," he waved his hands off at that, "let’s not talk about what you have heard about the prince. Because I am sure that before meeting me and having this conversation you would have had heard about my good deeds as well." He smirked with a shiny glint in his eyes, having caught me, "We both are aware of the fact that your opinion has changed about me."
"Why don’t you honestly and very clearly tell me what are you talking about. I know that you are pointing in a direction of which I am unaware."
He stared at me before taking a deep breath and concealing his emotions and expressions once again. Those dark eyes did not get any less scary. His face turned blank as he said the next words, "You have feelings for the merchant."
