The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 376: The aftermath - I
My eyes opened at the speed of light before I could even comprehend what happened. Blinking them slowly, I got rid of the sleep before deciding to set up on the bed.
Bracing my hands to get up, I put pressure on them, but the pain I felt in my left side had me yelp and fall back into my lying position on the bed.
What was that?
"Your highness!" Irene came rushing in. Her eyes were wide, her hands were shaking, and she reached by my side to help me but instead, she stood by my side.
"What?" I frowned. It even hurt to talk. What happened?
Irene stared at me before gulping. "You don’t remember."
No, whatever had happened I did not remember it. What had happened?
The pain only kept increasing and it was a lot more than I had first registered it after I woke up.
"What?" I barely managed to get a word out of my mouth. Any movement of my head hurt.. my shoulder?
What was going on? I eyed Irene, she was yet to answer my question.
She gulped again and it’s up here and there, which made me even more suspicious of what was going on. I read head by far the most common need I had been assigned. She always knew what to do but it does not seem like she did at the moment.
"What is happening?"
Irene hesitated and that confirmed my restrictions. Something had happened. "I will bring you a mirror." She was paid before moving towards the dressing table and brought me the smaller mirror with a handle.
I wanted to take it from her, but something stopped me. It was the pain in my shoulder.
She showed me the mirror, focusing on my neck, instead of my face, which made me frown. What was she—
Then I saw it.
Then I remembered it.
"He marked me.." I whispered staring at a bloody sight.
When I had been beaten the first two times, I had not seen what it looked like because the bandage clothes were being changed continuously to avoid infection. However, this was not covered and it was still not cleaned.
It was exactly how I had imagined it to be. A bloody, ugly side, and if I concentrated, I could even see what was underneath—
I gagged and a second later, a bucket appeared that Irene kept next to me. She helped me reach towards it quickly, and I vomited into it.
Heaving heavily, I vomited a little again before finally, the feeling went away. She handed me a glass of water that I gargled first with before drinking the rest of it.
Taking in huge and slow, deep breaths, I closed my eyes and just focused on the task. However, the sight of the two holes in my skin did not leave me even with my eyes closed.
"Everyone has a different reaction to this. You don’t need to worry about anything, your highness. Yours is a completely normal reaction. Since you have never seen any kind of wound, it’s only natural to react this way."
I nodded to what she was saying though I was not paying attention to it. My focus was on the pain I felt it in my shoulder.
"Irene," I opened my eyes, a little bit, "why... Why am I in pain?"
Good lord above, it was difficult for me to talk. Did he really have to do it so close to my throat? Did he not like me talking?
Her eyes glanced at the wound and then back at me. "I was told that you were bitten twice before. Those were mistakes and they were to be healed quickly which is why you have the blood of the king in you."
"The blood makes it easy for you to heal very quickly, and it is not allow you to feel any kind of pain."
And? "Now?"
"Now," she attempted to shrug, "it is a mark with the intent of staking a claim, so it’s not going to disappear soon. I will bring something for you to help with the pain, but the king wants it to heal as slowly as possible so it will leave a mark."
He wanted to eat to heal slowly? How did Tristan completely forget how it was to be a human and in pain? This was not exactly something bearable!
Something cold touched my skin and when I opened my eyes as much as I could, I saw Irene closer to me than before. She was running a cold cloth on my skin.
Focusing again, I found Merelyn on the end of my bed. She had the same expression as I read it before. She was tensed too. Probably scared as well.
"What?" I asked her, my voice became more hoarse than before.
"Nothing." Merelyn shook her head and came to stand between Irene and me. She kneeled and said, "do not worry about anything. I am right here and I will take care of you and Katherine. You are reacting the same way I did that it’s completely normal. Do you understand me?"
It was difficult for me to keep my eyes open constantly. So as much as I could, I tried to keep them open.
I could not see clearly, but I could hear her words well and the way she sounded, she was stressed. She was stressed about this more than she should be. If this was a normal reaction which told me that it was not.
"It hurts.. Mari.." I mumbled, inching closer to the bed on the other side of my body, so that I would not feel any more pain. "Hurt.."
"I know," she whispered and the cold cloth continued, "I am going to keep taking care of you. So, do not worry about anything. Genevive, just rest."
Nodding or at least attempting to do that, I heard her words and acted on them as sleep had already engulfed me in its arms.
