Chapter 302: A mad woman - III

"Huh," Mrs Walter nodded in a daze, " that is quite... something."

"Yes." I nodded, hoping to hear more from her. "What do you think about it?" I asked, slightly breathless.

When she asked me about what was going on, I replayed each and every event to her without taking a breath in between.

Everything that happened was told to her in the order of it. From the time that I felt being watched, to the time where I saw him behind the back door and then in front of my window along with how I suspected that he was the one who had dropped the dead body of the deer on our porch.

That had happened a few minutes ago. Mrs Walter had taken at least five to six minutes to digest the information and I was still waiting for her to comment on it.

That might have been one of the longest periods of times that I had to wait for. Because of what she said, I waited in anticipation for acceptance of what was happening with me.

I waited for the support that she promised me earlier.

"Well," she gulped and I could see her visibly struggle for the right words, " I would have believed each and every word but Dorothy did not see anything and the only one who has, is you."

I closed my eyes and sighed heavily. Why would I expect something else from someone who had not been through the same as I had?

"Do not take it in the wrong way, Genevieve." She held onto my hand on her own. "There is no way that he could have possibly found you here and so soon. Maybe it is, indeed, your imagination."

Yes, but there was also no way he could have found me in this country after my marriage had gone horribly wrong. There was also no way he could have known the king of the north and there was also no way that werewolves and vampires could have existed in this world.

But they had and I had seen that thing happen. Many of those things were something I never imagined could ever come true yet I had experienced all of them and she had not, so maybe, for her it was not possible.

"Perhaps, you are right." I nodded and smiled at her. "I understand what you mean."

I did not but it was clear as day that she did not believe me. So why should I bother trying?

I tried to do that with Dorothy and she had failed to understand, so had Mrs Walter. I had finally reached my limits to continue trying to make others believe me which is why I just stopped.

"Hey," she placed a head on my shoulder, "just think about it, alright? I know you have feelings for him but there is also the fact that no one else has seen him except you. You could be imagining it."

I subconsciously nodded again to whatever she said. It didn’t matter anymore.

Sawyer had told me what berries and mushrooms were to be picked up and which ones could be considered poisonous. It had not taken a lot of time on my age to understand which ones want to be picked up and which note.

After going out with him to pick them up numerous times, I finally felt confident to do it alone. If I was wrong, they could always pick out the poisonous ones. Hopefully, before anyone could eat them.

Keeping the basket tucked firmly in my elbow, I moved deeper into the forest in search of the food. Since we had picked a lot of them recently, I had to move slightly deeper to get the one is required for tonight’s dinner.

Slowly, as I kept on finding them, my basket filled and the sun started to set. By the time I had a respectable amount for the side dish tonight, I sighed before turning around to walk back home.

The leaves crushed under my feet and I smiled at the sound that was oddly satisfying to hear. It was when a twig snapped that I stopped and looked under my feet.

There was no small wooden brunch underneath my foot. Then where did it come from? No one had come along with me as far as I remember and these words were usually empty.

Just when I decided to shake it off and move again, the leaves started crunching like someone was walking over them but I was not moving. I stood where I had been standing.

Turning around very slowly, from where I hurt them, I came to be face-to-face with an animal almost as tall as I.

The flower that covered his entire body and this snout that I knew had the most bloody teeth inside it. They could tear into my skin and rip out everything. Not to mention the post that contains the most deadly claws.

The strength that was unparalleled and something I knew I could never take on alone.

Was it real?

Was I really standing in front of a wolf, alone in a forest?

I took a step back hesitantly and the moment I did that, the wolf moved, making me halt.

I was going to die..

Staring at him, I caught his stare and noticed something familiar about it. Shaking my head at the ridiculous thought, I really cursed my imagination at this point.

It had not even been a minute for me to standstill when the wolf moved behind a tree and I released a sigh of relief.

At least now I could attempt to run.

Bracing myself to run for my life, I picked up my skirts and turned around—

"I could always chase you and win,"

I gasped and whirled around.

"but that could not benefit either of us," he smiled, "So, how about we attempt to have a grown-up conversation that does not involve any running?"

I blinked. "Da-Darius."

The king of the north bowed, "At your service."
