Chapter 299: A little blood - II

For the next few days, I tried to keep my mind off of the subject of Tristan by taking care of the prince who had occupied the time of Dorothy, Mrs Walter and I.

Sir Walter had decided to go back to the library. I was told by him that he had asked for a leave of absence just so he could make sure that I was safely on the way to my country.

With what I had done and left the vampires in, it was obvious that he could not be gone for longer than he had asked. So, ultimately he went back to the library along with his two sons and we three were left behind to take care of the prince.

Mrs Walter had gladly accepted the fact that she had a third son to take care of. The third son was very much like a baby who needed to be spoon fed everything by her hand.

"There you go," she fed him another spoonful of the porridge she had made for him, " this is the last bite." She said for the third time before placing another spoon in front of his lips.

Without a word of protest, The prince wrapped his lips around the spoon before taking in the porridge and chewing it.

He definitely enjoyed the attention he was receiving.

"Thank you." Lysar gave her a charming smile. "I swear, Mrs Walter, you are the reason I am still alive."

Ah, die already.

With a smile on her face, Mrs Walter left, leaving the prince alone with me in the room. Just as she left, his smile was replaced with sneer towards me.

"Don’t you have a pretty smile to words older women," I scoffed and he narrowed his eyes at me.

"Did someone piss you off? You look more like your elder sister than yourself."

Did I?

"You act like you are broken hearted one second and in the other, you change into someone who is tired and irritated all the time."

I looked away from him, unable to conjure up an answer.

I was guilty for what I did to Tristan, because of which I was broken hearted. And in the other, I was sleep deprived because I kept on thinking if I had really seen Tristan or not.

But did he need to know that? No, not at all.

I moved to the side table kept just for the herbs. Taking the once in my hand that he was supposed to eat after lunch, I handed it to him.

"Bitter," he blanched before swallowing the last one and taking the glass of water from me.

"Rest well." I said before leaving his room and closing the door on the way out.

Since there was nothing to do in the afternoon for me, I found myself walking towards the back door and settling on the porch steps just to stare at the forest.

"Why do I always find you here?" Cian’s voice made me turn back to look at him. He shocked me. "Do you have nothing better to do at this time?"

"Would I rather be here then?" I asked dryly before turning around and looking back at the forest. "go away, I’m not in the mood to talk to you." Or, even look at you but that would be rude.

He scoffed. "Did the princess grow courage while she has been resting inside the house, hiding from the world?"

I stayed silent.

"Imagine that, the princess has finally—"

"I had enough courage to sit in the room of 30 vampires, fully grown and turned, and poison them into a deep sleep for an entire night. So do not tell me how Much of courage I have gathered while sitting inside here!" I snapped. "Get out of my sight."

Fortunately, my words got to him and I heard the door being slammed shut. He was more dramatic than any princess I had ever seen.

I sighed, content on finally being left alone.

*******

It was around dinner time and I was laying the plates. Dorothy placed the hot utensils on the mats and Mrs Walter called everyone to the dining table.

Slowly, the table filled up with everyone except for the prince who could only sit and stand for a short while.

Today it was chicken and rice with the sides of mushrooms.

It had been cooked tenderly. Dorothy had done it and she was learning under the guidance of Mrs Walter.

"It’s good," I praised with my mouth full nodding at her, unable to not chew and ravish the taste.

She shyly dipped her head when almost all of the people joined in and praised her for the meal she cooked all alone and just under verbal guidance.

"Tha—"

The loud banging on the door silenced everyone. Within seconds, everyone was looking at the door with stunned silence. It was the evening, almost no one would come through this road and even if they did, no one would venture far enough to find a cottage.

They would simply go back to the capital.

"Who could it be, Reginald?" Mrs Walter glanced at her husband who was sitting at the head chair. He glanced at her and gave her a nod with a smile before getting up.

"I will go father. It’s probably just some kid from the next town." Cian, much to my surprise, stood up and without waiting for any word from his father, he walked towards the door and just as the banging started again, he whipped it open.

He stood there.. silently.

"Well?" Sir Walter questioned from his seat. "Who is it?"

I could feel a wave of chill wash over me. Why was he silent?

"Nothing, father. The kid must’ve run away."

Just when I thought that this was over and went back to my food, a chair shrieked and my attention darted towards the seat of Sir Walter who was now walking towards the door.

"Father! Sto—"

He lightly pushed his son away, who moved out of the way only for Sir Walter to react the same way his son had.

"Reginald? What is it?" Mrs Walter questioned and Dorothy and I exchanged a look. What was going on?
