Chapter 266: A Day of preparations - I

"Princess!"

I winced at the inconsistent shaking before shrugging their hand off my shoulder. My eyes were painfully filled with sleep and opening them hurt. Yet I opened them and glared at Dorothy before closing them again.

"Princess, you need to wake up!" The hand became more firm in shaking and had me open my eyes at the end.

"What?" I hissed, getting up from the bed and staring at Dorothy with eyes full of sleep. "Did we not go to bed late?" Because as far as I remember, we had been awake close enough for the vampires to come for a stroll. Rula’s words.

"We did," she agreed right away but the expression on her face portrayed that she would cry any given minute.

I eye her scared face, "what is the problem?" Dorothy had been through many changes in my ice before I had come here and not many things scared her easily.

She glanced towards the door before answering. "I do not know why but the king has sent for you. Apparently, there is something that he wants to show to you."

King? Tristan?

The moment I remembered him the mark on my neck started to tingle and that infuriated me. Anytime I would think of him or anything remotely revolving around him, the mark would start to tingle.

After what I have learnt last night, I was aware of how many women must have received the same mark as I had and under similar circumstances too.

I was hurt and I feared Tristan for a long time. I still do but as a princess I was taught to hide my feelings and especially my fear Deep inside My heart.

And so was with my affections.

They were the two prominent feelings that I was feeling when it came to Tristan. However I could see the figure of Rula peeking inside my room from the threshold.

She was afraid of Tristan more than she was afraid of Jax and she had every right to be because Tristan was someone more powerful than Jax.

Something told me that there was a specific reason and something entirely different to why she feared the king and did not even come near me when he was involved in the conversation.

But I did give something to Marilyn as a gift and as my lady-in-waiting she had already seen what I possessed so giving her something that I already had in my name, would be an insult.

Even though I know that Marilyn would never say it to my face and accept whatever I gave to her, I could never do it.

So I nodded and told her, "I know about that. Is it nokul?" He was the only one that I was aware of but there were many that did Tristan’s bidding. He was king, something I had blatantly ignored before.

"Yes, him."

"Tell him to stay there for a few moments while I get changed and ready." I threw the blankets at me before moving to the bearing area. I would not have the time to bathe, so the only option I was left with was to wash my face and cleanse my mouth.

Once that was done and I was dressed in formal clothing, moved out of my room and towards the king’s quarters.

I had the queen’s.

How many times has he made subtle statements about me being his queen and I had let them pass?

I had never paid attention to them when I clearly should have. But in my defence, I had been too occupied by everything, by everyone, to notice these changes.

Slowly and steadily everything came to my mind and one that stood out from them, when he made me sit on his lap when it came to the dinner with Darius.

He made me sat on his lap.

Nokul opens the door for me while staring at the floor in front of my feet. I am moved inside the room before coming to a halt and staring at what was in front of me.

Jewels, dresses, necklaces and even crowns along with shimmering bangles.

"What is all of this?" I muttered as my eyes ran over all of them. "How.." it was all too much.

Tristan chuckled and I felt him come closer to me. "I thought you wanted to give her something."

"Something.." I mumbled before glancing at him and then back at the luxuries in front of me, "this is a lot."

"For you to choose from." He completed before holding out his hand in front me and pointing at the materials. "I did not want you to have any kind of deficiency to choose from."

And he certainly did well on that. I do not think that I would have any deficiency in choosing with the amount of materials that I had in front of me. In fact, I could give her more than tens of gifts and would be still left with thousands.

"How.." I gulped, recovering from the astonishment and turning to look at Tristan, "did you manage all of this?"

Did he steal? Is this directly from the treasury or all from queen anastasia?

What am I thinking about? When did I start to get suspicious?

A beautiful smile graced his face stealing my heart immediately and his red eyes turned a shade brighter, twinkling in happiness.

"I talked to the jewellers last night, sent a word to them. The rich merchants restless to make an audience with the king and I gave them the chance."

Ah, two birds and one stone. I nodded, praising him in my mind. Something my father was never able to do and I am sure that Augustus will not be either.

"Choose, Genevieve," he commanded me gently, lightly placing his hand on the small of my back. "You have time till tonight."

Because tonight was going to be the ceremony. The ceremony for Marilyn and Allen.

Tonight, I would choose between.. but I had already chosen.
