Chapter 138: After effects - I

This Kingdom was in the north. I have to ride in the east because Melenmore is situated there. But for the night I had to stop and by the grace of God my mother’s secretary at once taught me on how to light a fire.

But the only thing I did not anticipate was the snow. The snow had made the wood bed which made it difficult for me to light a fire and I had mistakenly not carried alcohol with me.

Alcohol would have helped me light a fire and become a catalyst but with the absence of it I have to shiver in the cold and my horse was getting antsy.

"This is not good," I huffed and shivered as the cold wind blew. At the palace I was given numerous blankets along with the fire that was lit out all night long. Here I did not have the luxury and now I know how it feels to be out at night in the snow.

I gulped as the cold got to me.

My teeth were chattering now. Too, too cold.

I glanced at the horse. Surely he was feeling it now as well. I was not sure what kind of stables they were because I had just focused on getting one but now I realised that I had to take care of him and the woods would not get dry so there was no chance for me to light them up for a fire.

I stood up and walked closer to him, rubbing his muscles with my cold hands, maybe trying to warm him up but he is not in return as if mocking my attempt.

"What to do?" I asked him.

I looked up to see a clear night full of stars and the moon, a huge one visible. What was I to do, because if this continued I was surely going to freeze along with my horse. The poor thing had no fault in this.

I looked down at the horse and his reign. A smile broke on my face, as I figured it out. Finally!

Taking up my small bundle with me, I once again climbed on the horse and instead of shutting down I hit him with my ankle and we started running at full speed. The speed should be enough to warm him up.

The cold air hit my face but I could feel his body warming up through my hands. He was more important for me to survive because he was going to be the one to cross land for me.

Something went past the corner of my eye and I leaned back for a quick second before the world came crashing down.

The horse buckled and I fell along. He took a tumble down and so did I. His name could be heard as I fell, tumbling over twice and away from him.

I gasped at the pain in my leg, immediately clutching onto it.

When he had fallen to his side my leg was underneath him. I was crushed with the weight put on me and my heart could not bear to hear his cries. I looked over to him to see an arrow dug on his hind legs.

"Oh my," I started to get up only to be put down again by putting weight on my leg. It buckled underneath my wait before I could do anything. It hurt too much.

The horse neighed again and scrambled to get up. He knew the pain but did not understand the cause of it. As much as he tried to get up he was putting pressure on his leg which only made him cry out more ful stop my leg did not allow me to get up and I was crawling to him when I heard,

"Shut that damn thing up."

Another sound was ahead and the horse’s cries were silenced immediately. An arrow pierced onto its throat right in front of me as the blood crept into the snow which was now visible to me unlike before.

He was silenced.

"Princess Genevieve," I heard but couldn’t take my eyes off the now dead creature. It was hard to look away from him when he was before in pain and now dead while his eyes open and blood crypt out of his throat.

"Ah!!" Smearing pain came upon my hand and I pulled it back in an instant from underneath the boot of the man. "Stop it!" I screamed at the top of my voice.

He took it off but stood in front of me and craned my neck to see him.

"Now that we have your attention I would love to let you know that you took the bait." He grinned, "thank you for giving us the pleasure to take you back to the queen."

"Bait?" I repeated. What was the bait?

He chuckled and pointed his eyes to someone.

Hands gripped my elbows and I was dragged back as a screen for them to stop. They were not merciful on my leg and it screamed in agony.

"It does not matter what the bait was because you took it. The best part of it all is the queen has not expected us to give you to her in the best of conditions." He ran his finger over my forehead as I understood what he meant.

The queen was not even a few men to begin with. She wanted the worst to happen to me.

"You know you can get much more if you save me." I offered with concealed desperation, "I can offer you much more in my kingdom for saving me rather than. . ." I left the sentence hanging, not being able to complete it. The main thought of that happening to me was bone crushing as if the pain was not enough already.

He slowly shook his head and I felt my tears building. My lips trembled dangerously as he neared me and I could feel my other leg giving out as well.

I was ready to beg him. I was already begging him.

"Hold her down."
