Chapter 38: Secret Identity Unveiled

The match was pretty much over, but Wise had some unfinished business with the man kneeling in front of him.

In his past life, he had no family, no brothers, no parents, no wife or anything.

He was alone.

He knew the pain of how it felt to be alone. How much more the pain of having something just to lose it?

Wise’s first dagger slowly crumbled into ash in his grip and so he unsheathed the second one and took a step forward.

"Do better in your next life, or better yet, vanish into the void."

In that moment, the helmet that had been covering Mr Anonymous’ head finally slipped off.

As the helmet rang against the floor, chin-length blonde hair was exposed, waving in the wind.

Mr Anonymous looked up and Wise was met by a pair of light brown eyes the colour of caramel dipped in coffee.

"Tyris?"

The woman smiled sheepishly. "Hehehe, what’s up Xanthos?"

There was a sound of static and then the announcer’s voice chimed from above. "Do my eyes deceive me folks? Or is Mr Anonymous actually a Mrs?!" fгeewebnovёl.com

Murmurs began to spread through the crowd as they watched the shocking sight from their seats.

Wise offered her a hand and lifted her to her feet. "I’m guessing there is a reason you told me to kill you?" He asked, barely restating his anger, he was mere moments away from splitting her skull!

"Actually... I just wanted a really good fight! No one ever goes all out without the intention of killing and I’ve been bored out of my mind for the last few weeks!" She complained as she took off the remnants of her wrecked armour.

"My sparring partners are incredibly weak so I joined the tournament to find someone good enough."

’Is that what she meant when she said I looked like I could handle her?’

Wise sighed and lifted his dagger once more.

"Err, what are you doing?" Tyris asked as she took a step back.

"You see, the match is not over yet..."

"Wait, Wait!" She quickly brought out a white handkerchief from her pocket and waved it in the air.

The bell was once again rung, this time to signify the end of the match, and then fireworks were launched from outside the stadium.

"I hereby announce the Winner of the 100th ever Power Games! Xanthos!"

Akaza had been knocked out by the attack, making him the automatic winner.

The crowd cheered while a few sulked seeing that their favourite to win hand lost but still threw flowers, while others threw confetti.

When the celebrations settled, the announcer’s stage slowly descended to the ground and then he walked over to Wise, and Tyris who was still standing with him for whatever reason.

"Xanthos, would you like to challenge the princess for the championship belt?"

Wise looked up to the seat of honour. The queen was staring down from above, her chin resting on her palms.

She appeared to be sulking as she looked on. Behind her was Princess Aofie, looking as beautiful as the first day he laid eyes on her.

She was the end goal of everything... the reason he was fighting.

Wise took the microphone in his hands and said, "I’ll be there."

And that was how what would be his final match in the arena was scheduled for the next day.

***

After the match was concluded, to Wise’s horror, he had to spend many more hours in the arena.

As the winner of this year’s power games, he had become quite a popular man and the tournament organizers were on a mission to milk his popularity as much as they could.

So why didn’t he just leave? He tried to leave already only to be presented with the contract he signed before the tournament began, basically, the organisers were very much within their rights.

He signed autographs, shook hands with fans, advertised merchandise and even got his picture painted for final documentation before he was allowed to leave.

But as Wise was walking towards the exit, a young Ork ran up to him and placed a bag in his hands.

"What is this?" He asked, feeling the weight of the pouch.

"Your prize money sir," the Ork said before running back.

Wise was so focused on completing the tournament that he forgot there was anything like a prize. He loosened the thread, holding it closed and peered inside the pouch.

He was pleasantly surprised, inside the Pugh was nothing less than 50 silver coins, with a few gold coins mixed among them.

"At least the organizers are not stingy."

It was already night by the time Wise walked out of the arena and so he just began his walk back to the inn.

Normally, he would have paid the girls a visit but for the first time since the tournament started, he felt tired.

He had been fighting for days without enough rest and using moves he had sparsely practiced so the toll on his body was much.

His shoulders had a dull ache and his back was still throbbing from being slammed into the stone walls of the arena.

All he wanted to do was get home and jump right into bed.

When he arrived at the inn, he gave the receptionist a quick greeting and climbed up the stairs until he got to his room.

To avoid the mistake he made last time, Wise knocked audibly before slipping out his keys to unlock the door.

"Rosa, I’m coming in."

Wise swung the door open, expecting to see Rosalind curled up underneath the blankets, or worse the same troublesome scene as yesterday but all that greeted him was silence.

He shut the door behind him and walked further into the room.

"Rosa?"

There was no answer.

Wise walked up to the bathroom door and knocked. After a few seconds of silence, he pushed the door open only to find it in an appalling state.

The bathroom was trashed, there were claw marks almost everywhere, with a relatively deep cut on the back of the door.

The toilet was destroyed, the buckets ripped in half and the tiles completely shattered.

And right in the center of the mess were two bloody footprints, one Wise suspected to be Rosa’s while the second was inhuman— bigger than that of two men combined.

The demon had somehow entered their room, and Rosalind was gone.
