Xiao Jinyan, puzzled, watched her pick up a plate of four-happiness meatballs from his table and bring them to him.
“Your Highness, take these in with you.”
Xiao Jinyan guessed Shen Chuwei’s intention was for him to entice the wolf with the meatballs.
“Alright, you wait outside.”
The wolf inside the cage was visibly starved, and its build was more robust than average wolves; it would be very dangerous to let Shen Chuwei follow.

Xiao Jinyan looked down at the meatballs in his hand and after a moment of thought, he lowered the plate a bit, keeping a wary eye on the wolf as it approached.
The wolf stopped in front of Xiao Jinyan, sniffed with its black nose, then took a tentative step closer.
Xiao Jinyan watched coolly as the wolf drew near, circling him a few times, his palms sweating.
After a few circles, the wolf did not attack Xiao Jinyan but instead lay down in front of him.
The Emperor, witnessing this, was amazed and applauded loudly, “The Crown Prince truly lives up to his name, making the wolf prostrate on the ground.”
The officials echoed the praise following the Emperor’s lead, crying out, “The Crown Prince possesses both wisdom and courage.”
