Although vampires resembled ordinary living beings, many non-paranoid individuals in the Blood Race would hide their identities and live across various strata of mortal society. Unlike the Undead, they needed food and sleep, but their essence was still that of the Undead.
This meant that the negative energy attacks that would damage ordinary creatures actually had a healing effect on the vampires.
Although little Isha wasn’t exactly comforted by this powerful healing energy, seeing Lancelot, whom she considered her greatest support, blasted away, the young girl was momentarily stunned. But just then, her brother’s voice suddenly rang clear in her ear:
“Now, quick!”
The young girl immediately snapped to her senses, her hand reaching to her belt, and the item Lancelot had specifically instructed her about before the battle appeared in her hand.
A flash bomb.
...
The training of a Wanderer enabled her hands to be steady, skillful, and swift. Little Isha completed the preparation to activate the alchemical item as fast as possible, then hurled it toward the ceiling while shouting:
“Flash!”
Having previously battled with the Dark Weavers, where Koula had often used flash bombs, everyone had instinctively learned to turn away at the sound of the word “flash,” even though they were all severely wounded by the Matriarch’s spells, they still retained enough strength to turn their heads.
But the Zoels had no knowledge of this. They looked involuntarily towards little Isha, not understanding why this seemingly naive young girl was unharmed, and their gaze followed her action to the small clay pot thrown up.
The clay pot shattered against the ceiling, exploding in a burst of light tens of times brighter than the sun. Even though the intense light lasted less than one-hundredth of a second, it was not something ordinary humans could endure, let alone the Dark Elves, who had grown accustomed to dim environments after years of living underground.
All Zoels present were instantly blinded, including Kamoen — who had been warned but turned his head slightly too slowly and didn’t completely turn away, the light that still caught the corner of his eye turned his field of vision completely white.
But the other Dark Elves fared even worse. Excruciating pain radiated from their eye sockets, leading them to believe their eyeballs had been pierced by some magic. Neither the male elite martial artists nor the female high-ranking priests could withstand the impact of the intense light. Their amulets were completely ineffective because the light wasn’t a magical attack and didn’t inflict any physical damage.
And at the instant the bright light exploded, Lancelot made his move.
Frostslash shot out of the scabbard like a cannonball, the sword aura that should have been teal due to its brightness had turned into a lightning-like blue-white. As the longsword was drawn, Lancelot’s right foot stomped heavily on the ground, and he lunged towards the Zoel Matriarch like an arrow released from a bowstring.
The shining blade formed a ribbon of smooth light in the air, with its endpoint aimed at the slender neck of Matriarch Belmanis. As the blade drew nearer, the amulets on the priest’s body triggered in succession: first appeared a silvery-white energy shield that attempted to block the sword’s advance but was easily split in half by the sword light; then an armor made of silvery threads, which also failed to slow the swiftly advancing sword light.
At last, the Priestess’s body even began to dematerialize, becoming a phantom-like entity similar to banshees and evil spirits, yet the sword blade, infused with True Yuan, had long proven capable of inflicting normal damage on spiritual bodies.
Nothing could block Lancelot’s longsword from striking Zoel matriarch’s neck and severing all physical connections between her head and body. Everything happened too quickly. The amulets’ effects all triggered automatically, and the Matriarch herself had not recovered from the sudden blindness until her death.
As the sword blade left Belmanis’s body, the gemstones on the amulets she carried also exploded simultaneously. These magical items had attempted to neutralize the formidable charged sword attack from the Human Knight but failed to have any effect and instead destroyed themselves due to energy overload.
Lancelot’s movements didn’t stop; he had seen the miracles performed by Priests and Holy Warriors, aware that Divine Power bestowed could return a soul to a dead body. He opened his mouth and let out a thunderous roar:
“Explode!”
The roar, filled with True Yuan, caused visible ripples in the air, but this was not just any roar. It was a technique called ‘Lion’s Roar’ from a small bamboo slip Lancelot executed. Though it was merely a common Qi Refinement technique primarily for intimidation rather than harming, it could focus sound waves at one point and, when performed with Foundation Establishment prowess at close range, its power was comparable to a warhammer thrown by Bruto.
The sonic wave slammed into the Matriarch’s face, which was at close proximity, and her shriveled head burst open like a melon dropped from a height. Silver hair spattered with brain matter and fragments of skull flew backward, with most of it spraying out the window and some sticking to the wall.
Perhaps this dignified Zoel noble had not understood what happened until her death.
Lancelot was not yet satisfied. He drew a long arc with his longsword, striking the headless body once again. With no amulets or magical protection, the Matriarch’s luxurious robes provided no defense, and Lancelot’s burst of speed was so rapid that he delivered nearly a hundred sword strikes within three seconds, completely chopping the enemy’s body into a pile of minced meat, to an extent that even the Matriarch herself couldn’t resurrect from.
Of course, Lancelot deliberately avoided the waist and hip area where several bulging pouches hung; he wouldn’t want to cut those off along with it.
While he launched the attack, others were not idle either. Negative energy did harm their lives but did not directly inflict physical damage, which meant everyone still retained their full combat capabilities.
And what could be easier to handle than an enemy blinded under such circumstances?
Unexpectedly, some Zoels seemed to have the ability to fight while blind. Like the Levitation Skill, each Zoel noble could rely on their family crest to cast Dark Arts, therefore many had been trained to fight by relying on their hearing with their eyes covered.
However, Dark Arts affected both sides equally, which was not the case now. People hardly struggled to eliminate their respective foes, and with Kamoen’s recent example, everyone’s actions were very resolute, leaving no chance for any enemies to surrender.
According to their moral standards, if an opponent indicated surrender, they were obligated to accept. But given their environment and the missions they carried, realistically handling these prisoners was impossible, so denying enemies the chance to speak might be seen as a form of evasion.
Everyone is changed by the Abyss to some extent, and if even angels are not immune, these mortals certainly are not different.
