The Ordinary Me is Worshipped as a Deity by the Extraordinary Them-Chapter 1 - First Encounter with the Son of Light
Someone once said that crossing over is an inconsequential and trivial matter that is part of the human experience, something one must go through in their lifetime.
Without considering whether Su Li accepted this notion, it’s enough to say that he just found himself momentarily disoriented, suddenly standing in another world and feeling smaller, among other things…
“The world is full of unpredictable and confronting dilemmas.”
After saying this expressionless statement, Su Li indulgently plopped himself down right where he was. Unlike the scruffy, golden-haired beggar from the Western fantasy world next to him, who was preparing to beg with a bowl in hand…
He didn’t have a bowl.
Perhaps due to the differences between worlds, in that moment, the words that slipped out of Su Li’s mouth didn’t align with the language of this new realm. So when the golden-haired little spirit beside him asked, “What are you saying?” it dawned on Su Li that he had crossed over into a world that did not speak Chinese or English.
Yet, he could understand.
This must be one of the miracles brought by his new body.
Unfortunately, this miracle was not like a wild rose still blooming brilliantly after being beaten down by wind and rain. It was more like… an inexplicable adventure in another world?
But no one ever mentioned that a thirty-year-old man, neither a middle schooler nor a high schooler, not a university student, nor even a graduate student, could still chase after the trend of crossing over at this age…
Complex thoughts flickered through Su Li’s mind, and he replied to the golden-haired child in the language of this world, “I was just wondering how likely it is for good luck to arrive while one is sitting still.”
The hunger in his stomach made Su Li feel like he could devour a cow at any moment.
However, to the child beside him, this seemingly ambiguous statement felt like a bucket of cold water splashed onto him in the heat of summer, causing a shudder.
…Although he could hardly discern what the words implied, he instinctively sensed some fear and an unsettling thrill that lingered around him.
The boy beside Su Li swallowed hard, his throat filled with dryness and a faint sting. After about thirty seconds, he seemed to have understood Su Li’s words, and he dryly remarked, “There’s no such luck.”
“What if I said I was just simply calculating a possibility? Would you believe me?” Su Li couldn’t exactly tell the child that he held none of the original owner’s memories and had no background information about this world.
He didn’t even know the boy’s name…
Wasn’t it supposed to be that after crossing over, there would be servants or underlings to explain the situation to him?
The reality was tragically devoid of even a single broken bowl.
“I don’t understand what you’re saying,” the golden-haired child replied.
Su Li confirmed another point.
Whether or not he had a broken bowl was unimportant, because he still had a silly companion!
Crossing over was wonderful; he wanted to do it again next time. (Not really)
Perhaps the lucky expectations will always come from the most unbelievable places. Even without a broken bowl, Su Li still managed to earn a gold coin.
Ignoring the greedy glances from the other people begging beside him, as well as his companion’s insistent fixation on the gold coin, Su Li focused all his attention on the person who had given him the coin.
That person stood out distinctly, differing from everyone else on the street that Su Li had discerned since his arrival in this new world.
Here, most people are dressed in outfits reminiscent of those from RPG video games. If we were to use a more accurate term, we could call it ‘Hero’s Attire’.
It seems, however, that they are likely the so-called “newbies” of legend, commonly referred to as the adorable little ones experiencing their first adventure as heroes.
After all, someone like Su Li, who has been through the grind, wouldn’t care about a single gold coin. Instead, he focused all his attention on the person in a white robe who was clearly wearing high-level gear.
“Um...” Su Li admitted that for a moment, he thought about telling the hero that he was the hidden support, the golden finger who would help defeat the demon king and rescue the princess. But the reality was that Su Li, who wasn’t even sure if the original owner of this body was a beggar, had no basis to appear profound.
“You pulled out a gold coin because you want to make it clear to an absent guardian that you want to buy us both outright?” Su Li restrained his golden-haired little companion, whose eyes were glued to the coin.
He caught a glimpse of surprise in the barely visible eyes beneath the white robe.
Drawing on his twelve years of experience as a corporate worker (including four years of working like secret agent 007), Su Li speculated on the other person’s mindset, and he was certain it was something like: This child is completely different from everyone else; he’s so pure, so unpretentious.
Although the reality was quite different.
In fact, the child who had been so fixated on the gold coin that it seemed like his eyes might pop out with longing, was clearly trembling with fear, yet still held onto Su Li.
He hurriedly tugged at Su Li’s arm, trying to get him to kneel down alongside him.
Then, the child seemed to have completely abandoned his dignity as he knelt before the robed figure and said, “I’m sorry, great Sir Elementalist; we have offended you.”
Right after that, it appeared as though the child was about to slap himself in the face.
Su Li acknowledged that he had acted rather rashly for a moment.
Just before the dust-covered hand could come crashing down on the child’s face, Su Li caught it.
“Alright, I admit I probably should have taken ten minutes or half an hour to explain to you why I’m doing this. But before that...” Su Li wasn’t sure what he looked like in this smaller body or how his eyes appeared, but he was well aware that a corporate worker could not express trust through mere eye contact.
Su Li had only one way to convey himself.
He firmly grasped the golden-haired boy’s hand, looked directly into the other’s eyes, and indicated his seriousness.
Su Li said, “Don’t be afraid, how about you trust me?”

After all, the gaze of a laborer was never glamorous, and how could one use their eyes to communicate their thoughts to others?
Furthermore, long before becoming a societal burden, having worked relentlessly for four years and accumulated twelve years’ worth of job experience, Su Li had imprinted the survival skill of reading others’ expressions into his very DNA (DNA: Don’t imprint all sorts of nonsense onto me).
Feeling the astonished gaze directed at him from beneath the robe, Su Li remained quite calm. He continued to lounge lazily on the ground, as if he had no bones, showing not the slightest indication of straightening up or acting serious simply because the person before him looked down upon him.
After all, the only thing that the higher-ups needed was simple.
That was to achieve their goals.
“A single gold coin might be enough for me and the little golden-haired boy to survive for a while, but only if we remain alive. As for the gold coin you’re giving us, it may stem from goodwill, but there must be deeper thoughts behind that goodwill. For example, you believe our lives will improve because of your generosity.”
“Indeed, good deeds are worth remembering and worthy of admiration, but considering the current circumstances...” Su Li surveyed the adults surrounding him and the golden-haired boy, whose eyes displayed clear greed, and then looked down at his own hand, which seemed almost skin and bone, before raising his head to say, “It’s not certain we’ll even have the life to enjoy your kindness.”
“Therefore,” Su Li leaned slightly forward, picked up the gold coin that had been tossed in front of him, and looked up at the person in the white robe, extending the coin toward him. The contrast between his slender, frail palm and the gold coin—representing wealth, resources, and a range of necessities for life—was striking and shocking.
“I have decided to hire you with this gold coin to take me and the little golden-haired boy to a more orderly place. I wonder if you would be willing to earn a little extra on the side.”
The person in the white robe gazed steadily at the child sitting on the ground. He couldn’t sense any particular traits from Su Li, but it was precisely this lack of discernible qualities that sparked a flicker of desire in the heart of a person on the run to help the two children before him.
Thus, he extended his hand.
…
In truth, the moment Su Li finished speaking, he knew he would achieve his goal.
Because if it were indeed the case that nobles had a natural disdain for commoners, then the other party wouldn’t have listened to what he had to say at all. Thus, the “Elementalist” that the little golden-haired boy mentioned most likely referred to someone who possessed the power of elements.
Moreover, observing how the little golden-haired boy was trembling and tightly clenching his fists provided further evidence that those with such powers might very well regard those without them as others.
But one must still believe that there are naturally kind beings among humanity.
The hand extended before him was the best proof.
Su Li smiled, the first pure smile he had shown since arriving in this foreign world, where he didn’t even know his own name or what he looked like.
Then, as Su Li helped the little golden-haired boy stand up, the latter carefully gathered all his assets—a broken bowl—into his arms and then, in a distressed tone, said, “My name is Cyril, I’m not just ‘little golden hair.’ Su Li, did you forget my name again?”
“No, you must believe me, ‘little golden hair’ is a term of endearment filled with love from me to you.” Su Li turned to Cyril, who offered no objections to his handing the coin to the white-robed Elementalist, and said earnestly, “It’s a blessing to have a little golden-haired companion like you.”
Otherwise, after crossing over, it was highly likely that Su Li would have just laid down on the ground to take a nap.
Being hungry is one thing, after all, once asleep, one doesn’t feel hunger.
Effort would be impossible, he could only lay flat and be a slacker.
And this, was the initial encounter with the Son of light, Egbert, who would ultimately come to be part of his beliefs… a fellow practitioner of the “lay flat” approach to life.
