The Only Spatial Ability User In The Apocalypse-Chapter 84 Hornets
Sylas’s earth energy surged out, going deep into the pillars and started repairing cracks where Shuan’s ability was not able to reach.
The others on duty didn’t sense anything since Sylas had already blocked others from prying with his space barrier.
Sylas walked on the bridge as he repaired it, leaving only the surface cracks for Shuan to repair tomorrow.
Sylas could have repaired it earlier and saved time for everyone, but he didn’t want to risk exposing his earth ability. So he had no choice but to help out discreetly.
The night was silent and dark, and Sylas quietly came back toward the car. Everyone was resting with only a few guarding, and no one noticed Sylas’ actions.
Sylas swept his senses toward the forest carefully once again for any dangers. After confirming that there was no danger, he leaned against the car and stood guard. He was still vigilant and didn’t let his guard down.
Luckily, they didn’t face any dangers throughout the night.
When dawn broke, Shuan immediately got to work repairing the bridge.
By noon, the bridge was fully repaired, and Major Kyle immediately informed everyone that they would be continuing the journey.
As usual, Sylas drove at the rear. He didn’t dare drive in the front because he knew that his presence might attract high-level creatures.
He kept a distance between the convoy of cars and his own car but still within the reach of his senses, so that if they encountered any danger, he would be able to help them, and if he attracted any danger, they would not be dragged into it.
The highway crossed through the forest, and Sylas could sense quite a number of mutated plants and animals inside it. But as long as they didn’t jump out onto the road and attack them, it was fine.
In front, Major Kyle and the others dealt with the low-level mutated plants and animals that occasionally obstructed their way.
By evening, when the sun was setting, the military truck in the middle suddenly jerked forward once before coming to a rough stop, forcing all the vehicles to stop.
"What happened?" Major Kyle asked the driver of the truck.
The soldier responsible for driving the truck replied, "I don’t know, the acceleration suddenly stopped responding. I think something’s wrong with the transmission. I will have to check."
"Pop the hood," Major Kyle said.
The soldier quickly checked the truck.
Sylas also stopped his car, keeping a distance, and got out. With his speed, he quickly arrived near the truck.
The soldier released the latch and lifted the heavy hood. A wave of heat rose from the engine bay.
Another soldier slid under the truck with a flashlight to inspect the undercarriage.
"Engine’s running," the driver said after trying the ignition again. "But it won’t move."
From beneath the truck, the soldier’s voice came out tense.
"Sir, there’s fluid leaking."
"What kind of fluid?"
"Looks reddish... smells like transmission fluid."
Major Kyle’s expression darkened.
Transmission fluid leaking meant the truck could not properly transfer power from the engine to the wheels.
The soldier slid back out, wiping his hands. "The transmission housing is cracked. Might’ve hit something on the road earlier. There’s also damage near the drive shaft connection."
Major Kyle crouched slightly and inspected it himself.
A thin stream of fluid dripped steadily onto the asphalt.
"How bad?"
"It’s not completely destroyed," the soldier said. "But we can’t drive it like this. The gears won’t engage properly. If we force it, we might damage the entire transmission." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Another soldier added, "We could try sealing it temporarily. We have repair compound and spare transmission fluid."
"How long?" Major Kyle asked.
"Forty minutes. Maybe an hour," the soldier replied.
The sun was already dipping lower, and it would soon get dark. Staying exposed on an open highway for another hour was not ideal.
Major Kyle glanced toward the forest. Low-level mutated creatures weren’t the issue. But what if a high-level mutated creature attacked them? It would not be good for them.
Sylas quietly swept his senses across the surroundings. For now, nothing was unusual, but he could not say for sure that they were completely safe.
Major Kyle immediately instructed the soldiers and ability users to stand guard and stay vigilant while the truck was being repaired.
Sylas went back to his car and saw a mutated plant approaching it. It was a low-level one, so he immediately unleashed his spatial blade and dealt with it.
After a few minutes, Sylas heard a rustling sound coming from deep inside the forest. His hearing ability was far superior to the rest of the ability users, so he was the first one to hear it.
Sylas immediately swept his senses toward that location and immediately sensed a zombie.
’A zombie in the middle of the forest?’ Sylas thought, raising his brows.
Sylas could feel strong energy from the zombie and immediately knew that it was a high-level zombie. He frowned as he straightened his back. If the zombie used a mental attack, it would not be good for the others, so he had no choice but to enter the forest and fight the zombie alone.
As he was about to inform Major Kyle and head into the forest, Sylas immediately stopped in his tracks with a confused expression on his face.
"How is this possible?" Sylas uttered under his breath.
Sylas quickly used his senses and confirmed it again and again.
The zombie disappeared.
No matter how many times he searched for it with his senses, he couldn’t sense it anymore. It was as if he had been mistaken.
’No, it was a zombie. I definitely felt it,’ Sylas thought.
’Unless its strength is far stronger than mine, and I couldn’t sense it,’ Sylas tensed as he thought of this possibility.
Sylas immediately arrived near Major Kyle once again and warned him.
"Major, something is not right inside this forest. We have to be careful," Sylas said to Major Kyle.
Major Kyle didn’t doubt Sylas’ words and immediately told everyone to stay alert.
Sylas was still sweeping his senses through the forest. But he still couldn’t sense the zombie anymore.
Sylas was worried that he would attract a high-level zombie or other high-level creatures and put the others in danger.
He narrowed his eyes as he looked into the forest.
Suddenly, he heard a buzzing sound coming from the forest.
Sylas frowned as he swept his senses and immediately warned Major Kyle and the others.
"Hornets, everyone be careful. They seem to be mutated," Sylas shouted.
Soon, everyone saw a black mass of hornets flying out from the forest with a buzzing sound and heading in their direction.
Buzz... buzz...
Seeing a dense black swarm surging toward them, everyone immediately tensed.
Suddenly, everyone covered their ears and let out muffled groans.
Sylas immediately raised his space barrier, trying to block the sound.
"Their buzzing sound is like a sound attack," Major Kyle said.
"Everyone, get inside the cars. Only Major, stay back," Sylas suddenly shouted.
To deal with these mutated hornets, only his space ability and Major Kyle’s fire ability would be the best. The others wouldn’t be able to deal with them.
Everyone listened to Sylas’s words and immediately got inside the cars, covering their ears.
Sylas’ space barrier immediately shielded both him and Major Kyle.
Major Kyle immediately felt his ears go light as soon as Sylas’s space barrier shielded him from the sound.
"They have a sound ability..." Major Kyle uttered as he looked at the swarm of hornets.
"No, it’s not exactly a sound ability. It’s similar but different," Sylas said.
When the hornets got closer to them, Major Kyle immediately raised his hand and sent out fire, engulfing the black mass of hornets.
Nearly half of them fell from the sky after being burnt to death by Major Kyle’s fire ability.
"So weak!" Major Kyle was puzzled.
The rest of the hornets flew toward them and attacked the space barrier.
Sylas didn’t have to make a move. Major Kyle immediately sent out another burst of fire and they were quickly dealt with.
"They are so weak... Low-level ones," Major Kyle uttered.
"Their strength lies in that sound attack. If I didn’t shield you with my space barrier, you wouldn’t have been able to unleash your fire ability while under attack by their sound attack," Sylas said.
Major Kyle nodded his head and said, "Makes sense, thank God we have you."
Sylas turned his head and looked toward the forest. He had a feeling that the sudden disappearance of the high-level zombie and the sudden appearance of the hornets seemed to be somehow connected. He had a feeling that the forest was hiding something. It was as if it didn’t want him or anyone else to enter and wanted to chase them away.
Looking at the hornets that were lying on the ground, charred black, Sylas said to Major Kyle, "We should leave this place as soon as possible."
