There were cracks on the bridge, and the railings were damaged.

Major Kyle carefully scanned the bridge with his sense and asked Shuan, "Shuan, how long will it take for you to repair the bridge?"

"It will take a day to repair the whole bridge," Shuan replied as he placed his hand on the bridge and sensed it carefully.

The bridge hasn't collapsed, but it has many cracks on it. Driving a car straight over it would definitely be dangerous. If they want to cross the bridge, they have to repair it. Moreover, this was the only bridge connecting the northern region to the rest of the country. Before the apocalypse, high-speed trains and airplanes were the main ways of transportation. Now that trains and airplanes cannot be used, roads were the only source of transportation. If they didn't repair it carefully, the rest of the people behind them would be trapped in the small region. There was no guarantee that people with earth abilities would emerge. It might or might not.

Sylas leaned against the railing of the bridge and rested with his eyes closed. He could feel his depleted energy replenishing at a very fast speed. It was due to the mutated plant energy stone. His space was absorbing it, and he felt his body becoming light, and all the exhaustion he felt from the earlier fighting was fading.

He still had one more energy stone on him, but he didn't plan to absorb it. Among the three, he absorbed two, and one he would show to Major Kyle and the others.

He had already thought of an excuse about the other two energy stones.

After recovering his energy, Shuan immediately got to work. It was the middle of the night, but all of them were awakened humans, so the darkness didn't pose any hindrance.

Shuan carefully used his earth energy to repair the bridge.

After sensing that his energy had recovered, Sylas carefully sensed his space. But apart from replenishing his depleted energy, his space hadn't upgraded. Sylas was a little disappointed, but he knew that it would not be easy to upgrade space with merely a few high-level stones. He would need more of them.

Sylas spread out his sense once again, scanning the area for any dangers lurking in the dark.

A few minutes ago...

The cars were parked far away from the bridge. The soldiers took turns guarding them. Everyone had a worried expression on their faces because the ability users were fighting on the bridge against the mutated plant.

Inside one of the cars parked at the front, Dudu finally snapped his eyes wide open. He rubbed his eyes and slowly looked outside the window. He placed his hands on the window glass and looked outside. His big eyes looked into the dark forest for a while, then he turned his head towards the soldier sitting in the driver's seat and said, "Big brother, there is something there."

The soldier immediately turned back to the small boy in the back seat and asked, "What did you say?"

Dudu pointed his hand towards the dark forest once again and said, "There is something in the forest. Dudu is afraid."

The soldier immediately went stiff because he knew that although Dudu was a small child, he was an ability user. His senses were sharper than the rest of them normal humans, so he didn't take the child's words lightly. He immediately opened the door and alerted the other soldiers.

Since there were no ability users present among them, the soldiers could only rely on themselves. They held the guns tightly in their hands and aimed toward the forest. Everyone was vigilant. They didn't dare to be careless.

Dudu placed both his hands on the window glass and continued to look outside.

Soon, from the depths of the forest, a rustling sound could be heard rushing toward them.

Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!

Soon they saw three green snakes rushing out from the forest.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The soldiers started firing as soon as they saw the snakes.

The snakes were very fast, and they easily dodged the bullets.

"The snakes seem to be mutated. What should we do?" one of the soldiers asked in a trembling voice.

"We have to try our best," one of the soldiers replied as he gripped the gun tightly in his hand.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The gunshots echoed in the dark night as bullets tore through the air.

But the three green snakes were unbelievably fast.

Their bodies were thick as a man's arm and nearly five meters long. Their scales reflected a faint metallic sheen under the headlights of the cars. The bullets struck the ground, tree trunks, and even the snakes' bodies but instead of piercing through, several bullets bounced off the scales with sharp metallic pings.

Clang! Clang!

"What the hell?!"

"They're too hard!"

One bullet finally hit one of the snakes near its lower body, but it only left a shallow wound. Dark green blood oozed out, but the snake did not slow down. Instead, it hissed furiously, its triangular head rising high.

Hissssss!

Its red tongue flickered in the air as its cold vertical pupils locked onto the soldiers.

"Spread out! Don't bunch together!" a soldier shouted.

The three snakes separated. One charged straight toward the cars. Another slid toward the left flank. The third coiled its body and then shot forward like a spring released, heading straight for the soldier who had first spoken to Dudu.

"Watch out!" someone yelled.

The snake's mouth opened wide, revealing two long fangs glistening with venom. It lunged.

Bang!

A bullet hit its head, but it only slightly diverted its direction. The soldier rolled to the side just in time. The snake's fangs slammed into the ground where he had been standing, sinking deep into the asphalt.

Its tail whipped violently.

Thud!

The tail struck another soldier's chest and sent him flying backward into the side of a car.

"Ahhh!"

The man coughed, his ribs cracking from the impact.

Inside the car, Dudu's small hands pressed tightly against the window. His big eyes were filled with fear. He could feel it clearly.

They were strong.

Very strong.

Another snake rushed toward the back row of vehicles.

"Protect the civilians!" someone shouted.

The soldiers fired nonstop, but panic was already creeping into their movements. Their breathing became unstable. Their aim faltered.

One snake suddenly coiled around a soldier's leg.

"Help! Help me!"

The snake tightened.

Crack.

A horrifying sound of bones breaking echoed in the night. The soldier screamed in agony as he fell to the ground, his rifle slipping from his grasp. The snake lifted its head, preparing to bite down on his neck.

Inside the car, something in Dudu snapped. He covered his ears tightly.

"No… no… bad snakes… go away…"

His small body trembled.

Then... a strange vibration spread from him. At first it was faint, barely noticeable.

Then it grew stronger.

The air around the car began to quiver slightly, like invisible ripples spreading across water.

The snake that was about to bite suddenly paused.

Its head jerked.

Hiss?

Another ripple spread outward. This time stronger. The glass of the car trembled lightly. The soldiers did not notice at first because of the chaos. But the snakes did.

All three of them froze for a split second.

Dudu lowered his hands slowly. His fearful eyes turned strangely calm.

"Bad snakes…" he murmured softly.

Then...

"Ahhhhh!"

A sharp, piercing sound burst out from his small mouth. It wasn't an ordinary scream.

It was a sound wave. A visible ripple distorted the air around him and blasted outward in all directions.

BOOOOM!

The glass window shattered and the sound wave rippled outward.

The nearest snake was directly hit. Its body twisted violently midair as if struck by an invisible hammer. The scales that bullets couldn't penetrate began cracking.

Crack! Crack!

The snake shrieked in agony, writhing on the ground. The second wave followed immediately. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

BOOOM!

This time the ripple expanded wider.

The two other snakes that were charging froze as their bodies trembled uncontrollably.

Their internal organs were directly assaulted by the vibration.

Blood seeped out from the corners of their mouths.

The soldiers stared in shock.

"What… what is that?!"

"It's the kid!"

Dudu's scream intensified. The sound became sharper, more concentrated. The air vibrated violently. The ground beneath the cars trembled slightly.

The snake coiled around the injured soldier suddenly loosened its grip and its eyes rolled back.

Blood burst from its nostrils and mouth.

Then...

Bang!

Its head exploded from internal pressure. Green blood splattered onto the asphalt. The remaining two snakes thrashed violently, trying to retreat.

But Dudu's sound waves chased them relentlessly.

Another wave hit.

Crack!

One snake's body twisted unnaturally. Its spine snapped. It collapsed onto the ground, convulsing before going still.

The last snake, slightly farther away, attempted to flee back into the forest.

Hissss!

It slithered desperately. But its movements became erratic. Its balance was gone. Before it could disappear into the trees...

BOOOOM!

The final sound wave struck it squarely. Its head slammed into a tree trunk.

Thud!

It slid down slowly.
