Chapter 49 - God Of Joy 4

Present.

Joy sat quietly atop a jagged rock, the remnants of shattered terrain beneath him. His breathing was steady now, the wear from his clash with Space beginning to fade.

The scarred battlefield stretched wide around him, a silent witness to the divine chaos that had taken place.

From his vantage point, he watched as the battles before him neared their end.

The God of Causality stood victorious over the crumpled remains of the God of Time, who shimmered briefly before fading into motes of vanishing light.

The Goddess of Decay stood tall, her Synth dripping with corrosive energy, as the God of Molten Flames disappeared into particles.

Not far from them, the God of Celestial Thunder pulled his crackling spear free from the broken form of the God of Illusions, who fragmented like glass, his body fading into nothingness.

Joy stood, dusting himself off, feeling the dense weight of his new strength humming beneath his skin. His eyes narrowed as he stepped forward toward the three victors.

Causality spotted him first, raising a brow in disbelief.

"Hey, Joy! How the hell are you still standing here?" His tone was sharp but tinged with curiosity. "Wait... did you already defeat Ruin?!"

Joy sighed, waving a hand dismissively. "Yeah, you can say that." he replied, leaving it at that.

Celestial Thunder stepped forward, stretching out his arms, lightning dancing across his fingertips. "Well, well. That's impressive. Now we've got four of us left... perfect for a brawl."

Decay grinned, resting her Synth of Decay on her shoulder. "He's right. Four's a good number. How about we mix it up now?"

Causality cracked his knuckles. "Yeah, let's see who's next to fall."

But Joy held up a hand, his voice steady yet laced with excitement. "Actually... you all know I've always wanted to fight multiple gods at once."

The three turned toward him, blinking.

"So..." Joy continued, a hint of a smile on his lips, "how about the three of you come at me together?"

Silence.

Causality's hand slowly rose to Joy's shoulder, leaning in like he was about to check Joy for a fever. "Hey, Joy." whispered to him, "did Ruin knock something loose in your head?"

Joy let out an exasperated sigh. "No, he didn't."

"Then why the hell are you requesting this madness?!" Causality shot back. "Don't tell me you finally found your 'joy' in getting beat up?"

Joy laughed, brushing him off. "Come on, relax. I'm serious—I think I can handle all three of you."

Causality walked back to Decay and Thunder, scratching the back of his head with a helpless chuckle. "Well, you see... my dear friend here clearly had his brain scrambled by Ruin, so uh... mind humoring him? I think it's therapeutic."

Decay tilted her head, lips curling into a mischievous grin. "Hmm... sounds fun to me. I've been itching to test him anyway."

Thunder rolled his shoulders, sparks snapping in the air. "Sure. Haven't had a good group session in a while."

Joy, watching their casual agreement to "test" him like he was a practice dummy, could only sigh, speechless.

Before he could fully process it, Causality lunged at him, palm glowing faintly as it aimed for the back of Joy's head.

But Joy's hand snapped up, stopping it effortlessly.

"Come on, Causality. Don't tell me you're running on empty already," Joy teased with a grin.

Causality's eyes narrowed in surprise. "Huh?"

Decay joined the fray next, swinging her sickle downward. Black-green corrosive energy coiled around the blade like smoke. The Synth of Decay struck Joy's shoulder directly—but something was wrong.

Instead of spreading its decay like wildfire, the energy dissipated harmlessly against Joy's skin, leaving no mark, no withering effect. His body stood untouched, like an immune fortress.

"Impossible," Decay murmured, her sickle vibrating unnaturally in her grasp.

Far above, storm clouds rumbled. Thunder descended, spear charged with blinding bolts of celestial lightning. With a sharp cry, he thrust it at Joy.

But Joy side-stepped effortlessly, lightning grazing harmlessly past him, splitting the earth where he once stood.

Thunder's frown deepened. "Since when did Joy become this fast...?"

Causality, equally perplexed, rubbed his chin. "Pinch me Thunder. I've never seen him this sharp. Was he holding back all this time?"

Joy chuckled, stepping forward, eyes glowing faintly with controlled power.

"Enough warm-ups," Joy said calmly, voice cutting through the wind. "Let's stop fooling around and get serious."

The three gods exchanged glances, their playful demeanor shifting into something colder... more focused.

Joy's grin widened.

Let's dance, he thought.

I'm chased by darkness, yet born of light,

A fleeting shadow, lost in the night.

What am I?"
