The Ogre Strength Fairy and the Eldest 'Son'-Chapter 361 - From Talcres To Talva, Family Forcefully Expands
Chapter 361: Chapter 361 - From Talcres To Talva, Family Forcefully Expands
In a distant region’s administrative office, Talva er Ryleon organized the next day’s intelligence reports for the fort commander she worked under there. Six stacks represented different categories of information - Voidling movements, civilian consolidation plans, supply requisitions, Guild deployments, notable engagements, and other correspondences about important figures.
The last stack was often thinnest but most revealing. Especially when it came to matters concerning certain cultivators she had developed personal interest in. It was where she found news of the collapse of the Gravity Anomaly days ago, and her favorite heiress’s involvement.
She’d personally copied it word for word immediately.
Reaching for a new envelope with the Talcres family seal, which she especially recognized after meeting with the current Patriarch and Dame personally at the competition... the muscular woman loosened the wax with a thin knife. Mild curiosity about what might be happening in that far region quickly transformed to genuine surprise.
"Fusand hez Talcres... an official adoption."
Her fingers traced the elegant calligraphy that announced the orphan’s acceptance into the prominent family. One of the two young people that the Goltbred girl had seemed to be ’good friends’ with. An addendum noted their continued mentorship of Nohre would be more officially continued, with a future union planned between the two young cultivators once the Descent crisis abated.
"Good for them... I’m sure Elua will be happy as well."
Setting that letter aside, she reached for another document... one in her personal drawer of the office that contained the documents she had found the need to duplicate. The copy of a Continental Army commendation announcement for her cousin, a record of Qatrand er Yecine’s first elimination of a leader-class Voidling, and the call for a strikeforce formation.
And sitting below that, because her collection was more about people related to Elua than her aunt’s child, a field report mentioning Ondua er Goltbred’s involvement in neutralizing two Intermediate-class entities that had attempted to establish a foothold near a mining settlement.
It was a good thing to her that Voidlings only seemed to try and inhabit areas of more recent human habitation - usually. One of their quirks that didn’t seem the most tactically sound, but was nonetheless what could be expected to happen.
’They could really dig in and be impossible to stop if they hid only in the unexplored and ignored cave systems...’
Her musings were interrupted by a gentle knock and an opening door. A wiry man with dark hair and the leather uniform of the Whispering Winds elite messengers. Someone that Talva had certainly not expected to see *at this point* in the Descent.
"Jerant!"
Rising quickly from her chair, she crossed the room in a few strides and embraced her husband. His thinner arms encircled her waist as he lifted the taller and bulkier woman slightly off the ground. A cultivator’s strength borne from physical energy didn’t care much about only a few dozen pounds of muscle weight.
"What are you doing here? I thought you were stationed three provinces away."
"I volunteered to carry these reports personally. These required a senior officer review at this fort, and I thought... perhaps my wife might be the most qualified."
"So you’re slacking off."
A hand tugged on the messy bun tied at the back of his hair. Not enough to hurt, but enough to tease and scold. She was going to insist on redoing it before he left anyway - she always did make sure he was presentable.
"No, I’m visiting you in an official capacity!"
He produced a sealed pouch from within his jacket after setting her down. Reddish-orange eyes surveyed her office and keenly settled on the prominently displayed maps on one wall. Every fort had something like this, marking Voidling positions and movements, and the blonde Army soldier started talking when seeing his line of sight.
"The first push seems to be slowing. Our scouts report fewer sightings near the border forts. Consolidations are happening quicker. We may even move into invasion clean-up patrol grids in only a few months."
"Which means I’ll have less reason to be running into dangerous locations to deliver letters to you, just to get a short glimpse of my busy spouse. They’ll finally bring you back to where you belong."
"As if you aren’t just as busy in your own capacity... they even had you moving information from the other Continent during my only chance at the competition..."
Despite wanting to be upset about her husband not seeing her compete, Talva’s hand instead moved to the plane of her own abdomen. A decision that had been forming ever since holding little Onya in the competition grounds was rapidly crystallizing.
The Talcres document announcing their adoption - family forming even amid war - only reinforced the resolve. That hand reached out and touched the dark haired man’s chest.
"I’ve been thinking, Jerant. And I’ve decided." freёnovelkiss.com
His eyebrow rose as it recognized the tone she used. One that preceded her most consequential announcements. But uncertain why she’d turned and pushed him into the wall more, with that look in her pigeon blue eyes... even though he *knew* what ’that’ meant.
’Her actions and tone are giving mixed signals... is spending that sort of time with me such a momentous affair that she has to think about it first? I’m flattered!’
"I believe it’s time we started expanding our family."
"...Here? During a Descent?"
"Yes. Now."
"In this office..."
His surprise was quickly evident, though not exactly disapproving - if the woman was any judge of the man she’d been with for years. He knew how much his wife loved children, even if they often didn’t share the sentiment. They’d talked before about when to perhaps try... and the letter she sent weeks ago had gushed quite a bit about the toddler she met.
"Life continues, even during war. Perhaps especially then. If we wait for perfect peace, we might wait forever. And as I just said, I’ve decided."
Her husband was silent for a long moment before their lips met. First expressing the gentler love he had for the woman he’d married. Soft phrases, touches and vows repeated. Intentionally riling her up, knowing that soon...
Through fierce passion, released hormones, and cycles no longer held at bay... Talva er Ryleon sought to create life for the first time. She tried so hard that her husband ’gave up trying’ first - forcing her to reclothe and carry the exhausted man to go rest in her private quarters.
As the next days wore on, she glowed more and more to all those who saw her while Jerant er Ryleon... walked around the fort commons like a stumbling skeleton. Due to not getting enough genuine rest between ’sessions’, and also with food rations during the war too low for what he was being put through.
However, he was the happiest grinning, rail-thin man that any of the others in the fort had ever seen...
