The Ogre Strength Fairy and the Eldest 'Son'-Chapter 349 - An Anxious Heir, A Soft Bite, & The Five Winged At Night
Chapter 349: Chapter 349 - An Anxious Heir, A Soft Bite, & The Five Winged At Night
"I should reject her from joining the strikeforce."
Qatrand paced the small confines of their little quarters, her agitation visible in every twist to turn the other way. The last assessment had concluded hours ago, but her disquiet had only grown since then. None of the cultivators she looked at today were any better than yesterday - and it ruined the one ’out’ she might have had.
Elua sat cross-legged on their bedroll, watching her husband-wife move back and forth like a caged predator. The anxious jealousy on display was adorable... especially considering the taller girl knew every detail that the reincarnator did.
She’d held little to nothing back when talking about the woman before. And even proposed some of her new suspicions about why Leysah seemed so... ’drawn’ to the Goltbred’s spirit in this life. Ironically, it had only worsened the matter!
’I can’t believe letting her know that my past life disciple might be trying to protect me made her bristle further. Am I a toy that she refuses to let others- well, maybe that’s not the best metaphor... especially not thinking of myself as Qat’s... hmm...’
The brunette violently shook her head while suppressing that train of thought, before asking in her *mildest* tone.
"Based on what official justification? Her combat skills are impeccable. Her Element even complements yours in a way few can. Both of you could further each other’s understanding of techniques around similar concepts."
"You know why."
Qatrand halted her unusual behavior before turning to face the sitting girl. Since her spiritual tendrils had been wrapped tight the entire time on her El’s form, she was more or less aware of what the other cultivator thought of her for the last while.
And even she felt like the way she was acting was childish, but it couldn’t be helped.
"The way she looks at you. Her fixation. It’s... unsettling."
"Because you know the reason for it, and she doesn’t. To that woman, it’s just an inexplicable pull she can’t understand - and that is all."
The teenager ran a hand through her blonde hair in frustration before taking the ribbon down out of the low tie behind her neck. Redoing it for the fourteenth time since returning to the room because her excessive motions kept loosening it. That behavior especially made her sigh.
"That’s not ’all’. There’s something else, too. She reacted like she expected me to turn and attack her in the middle of the practice formations."
"...I did notice. You know that. I told you she seemed to be mistaking your presence for... him"
"That’s plenty of reason to exclude her. She’s distracted by something she can’t explain. Those moments where she seemed to... distrust me without reason."
Elua rose to her feet and moved to intercept Qatrand’s resumed pacing. Her small hands reached out around the tall girl’s waist as she turned next to the wall. Softly compelling the pigeon blues to look down and meet the upturned mint gaze.
"...Let me evaluate her privately."
"What?"
"Assessing her myself before you make your final decision. Pressing her spirit further and seeing what I can do to make this a non-issue. Can I?"
"El..."
Unwillingness was obvious in that single syllable. But the schemer just waited for her to present either some more detailed discussion... or a more firm refusal. It was because the Yecine knew her little wife could *easily accept* her commanding her ’no’ that made it all much more uncomfortable.
"Is that... wise? Being alone with her might be..."
"Difficult? Yes. It would have been - and it still will be. But now, for you, it is necessary. You need an objective assessment so you can calm down, not just a gut feeling that it *may* remain a problem while I am not around."
’And her Astralism interests me... particularly why it developed in that unusual one-way configuration. I hesitate to call it the similar Aspect I know of, with the jagged edges it has. But riling it could help me-’
A hand fell on the shorter girl’s head with some force, fingers gripping and kneading the skull of the heiress who was clearly thinking of other things without saying them out loud. While it could be said that her wife was full of schemes, there was a different feeling to her actively crafting them!
"I don’t think my concern is unreasonable, do you? The woman would be a liability."
"It isn’t. But it may not be sufficient grounds for rejection either, if you did not luckily have as much control over things as you were granted. You will not always have that control. I want to gauge your intuition."
Elua’s gaze held steady as her hair was softly tortured. The hands resting on the cloth covered, but temptingly muscular lower back also wanted to do the same in return... yet she controlled herself.
She also really, really wanted to update the marking on her spouse’s neck, which had begun to fade a little the last forty-eight hours with the silly ’good health’ that the cultivator had! Not that she wished any illness or imperfection on her precious gem... but the hickey must stay!
"My love, this team of yours needs the best fighters available. If she is that, I will-
Catching a kiss on her forehead, El stopped speaking as her ’urges’ surged. The neck and love mark was right there now! It was hard not to imagine that she was being tested or seduced or both.
"Fine. But promise me something?"
"Anything."
"Tell me this isn’t about... the sort of closure you wanted before. Revenge. That you aren’t going to do something reprehensible because of your past, thinking that-"
A soft bit nipped at the neck of the swordswoman, a little irritated at the joke her beloved was trying. There wasn’t even an ounce of doubt in the Yecine’s spirit - the ’older’ girl clearly was certain that her cute wife would not use a situation like this for such a thing.
’She would have finished her at the competition, if she was ever going to.’
The wincing Qat wasn’t sure she would have blamed her, then. Knowing the new details her wife appended, however, changed things.
"Sorry. While what is wrong with her does make me uncomfortable, I wanted to make sure you wouldn’t overreact about it. So I tried to see how you felt when I said stuff like that."
Pulling the sharp canines away from the densely muscled neck, a monotone voice answered her with words this time.
"No need to apologize. I’ve said things just to see how you react before, too. It’s a fair maneuver... though I’d call it scheming, my love. I thought you were adamant that it wasn’t the type of person you are?"
"Just trying to share a hobby with my wife, only in private. Should I not?"
"...I’m going to bite you again."
"Are you that hungry? I can go get you something tastier to-"
"No such thing exists."
Minutes later, the teasing Qat found her lower lip had been bullied and bitten to the point of lasting soreness. And unlike herself, who felt some regret for her actions that led to this... her mint-drop was flush with a deep content marred only by wisps of ’hardly satiated’ unrest.
"...Are you okay?"
"Yes, my love. Just thinking. There is a part of me that recognizes I should strive to assist her, if any part of my new thoughts are correct. It’s the thing that I think you would do in my situation."
A few soft puffs of air that might have been her facadeless state showing ’laughter’ were heard. Quite a far cry from her ’giggles’, in cuteness. But there was still something kind of endearing about it to the crinkling pigeon blues.
"But in the end, this is about keeping you safe when I can’t be there to do it myself. Making sure you have the finest team member available... which she seems to be."
The blonde pulled the brunette close, resting her chin atop Elua’s head... even though she knew how the girl was feeling. Her El had once described it like someone feeling significant thirst and having spring water in a clean glass.
But pretending the only thing before them was saltwater - and they must not drink it.
"Okay. You can do as you like. Meet with Leysah and tell me if she is more of an asset than a liability."
"Thank you. For trusting me with this."
Low rumbling chuckles were paired together with a calloused hand beginning to rub circles on her wife’s back. The Yecine felt like this was not the first time she’d said this, nor would it be the last. And just like every whisper of ’I love you’ - she meant it more and more every time.
"I trust you with everything, always."

Outside their quarters, starlight shone down on the fort. Five Whispering Skydancers perched on the nearby rooftop as their chosen roost to give their Queen the privacy she desired. freёweɓnovel_com
Their new set leg of leg bands had been a big deal to them. Shiny, even more regal, they truly felt like more important members of the court that the original bird insisted existed. Two of them were not so sure, but were outnumbered by confident chirps.
And at the end of the day... it was safe, interesting, and they did get far more freedom and treats than with the time in the Wing & Talon Enclave.
