The Noble Lady's Rebirth: She just wants to Rest in Peace!-Chapter 323 - 315: Obstruction
Gu Yifeng left the Marquis Mansion and encountered the doctor that the Guo family men had brought back from outside at the gate of the East Courtyard.
The men of the Guo family greeted him ceremoniously. Gu Yifeng nodded and stopped, raising a hand to point, "Who is this?"
"This is the doctor that Madam instructed to be brought back from outside," the Guo family man replied quietly.
Originally, it was Hailan who went out to find someone. The Guo family man followed her, but Hailan had something come up midway and instructed the Guo family man to bring the person back first, which led to Gu Yifeng encountering them.
The Guo family man didn’t really know what was going on, so when he saw the Marquis, he did not hide anything.
Gu Yifeng narrowed his eyes slightly and just looked at the doctor without a word.
The Guo family man, also not knowing what was happening, did not dare to rise upon seeing the Marquis remain silent.
Li Si immediately stepped forward, "Is Madam unwell? Which clinic is this doctor from? Madam’s health is delicate, you cannot casually call in a doctor from outside. Manager Guo, please go back; I will take the person to the inner residence."
The Guo family man hurriedly agreed and left only after taking his leave.
Gu Yifeng nodded slightly at Li Si before striding into the manor, while Li Si outside continued to speak a few more words to the doctor. The doctor dared not say much, responding repeatedly, and finally followed Li Si inside.
Lin Youning saw her elder brother had come and hurriedly asked if he had eaten. Upon hearing he had not, she had Shanmoi prepare the meal while she welcomed him into the room. However, they had just sat down when the doctor arrived.
Gu Yifeng was holding a teacup and lifted his head, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Lin Youning nodded. Gu Yifeng continued, "Why didn’t you call the Imperial Physician?"
"Even if I call the Imperial Physician as usual, they can’t find anything. I thought I’d change the doctor to see if it’s the same issue," Lin Youning replied without expressing her inner concerns.
Gu Yifeng nodded, "If you’re really not feeling well, then have the Imperial Physician come to the mansion for a thorough checkup. Don’t be afraid of trouble; health is more important than anything."
He instructed Li Si to bring in the doctor. Separated by a curtain, Lin Youning only extended her hand. After examining both wrists, the doctor stood up respectfully.
"Madam is simply too weak. Her increased appetite is due to the medicine that stimulates appetite," the doctor said, then asked if medicine should be prescribed.
Lin Youning said nothing; instead, Shanmoi spoke on her behalf, "Thank you, doctor, for making the trip. Medicine isn’t necessary; please follow me outside."
After speaking, Shanmoi curtseyed again.
The doctor quickly insisted he didn’t dare take credit and followed Shanmoi out.
Lin Youning emerged with a helpless smile, "Looks like I overthought it. It was indeed about the medicine. Brother, aren’t you hungry too? Let’s have the meal served."
Gu Yifeng pulled her to sit beside him, "It’s nothing. If you feel something is wrong, call a few more doctors to take a look."
"That won’t be necessary, lest Aunt starts worrying," Lin Youning smiled wryly. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Gu Yifeng didn’t press further. The meal was soon ready, and after dinner, the two strolled leisurely in the courtyard. Lin Youning, feeling somewhat fatigued, forced herself to stay energetic.
Gu Yifeng had things on his mind. Having intercepted the doctor today, he naturally found himself distracted when facing Sister Ning. Lin Youning, also being tired, didn’t notice.
On returning to rest that night, Lin Youning snuggled into her elder brother’s embrace. She had intended to say something but was too exhausted, quickly falling into a deep sleep as soon as she closed her eyes. When she woke up the next day, her elder brother had already gone to court. Lin Youning turned over and lazed in bed for a bit before getting up.
The following morning, while Shanmoi was doing her hair, she brought up the matter of yesterday’s doctor, "At the mansion gate, we encountered the Marquis, who stopped him. In the end, Li Si brought him inside."
This wasn’t really an issue, but Lin Youning’s expression stiffened. After all, when Li Si brought the doctor in yesterday, her elder brother seemed unaware, asking if she was unwell. But from Shanmoi’s words, it was clear her elder brother knew.
So why did he act that way?
Shanmoi saw her mistress in a daze, understanding that she was thinking about this matter, "Miss, should we find another doctor?"
Lin Youning shook her head, "No need."
Even if they did, her elder brother would likely intercept them, or would have already made arrangements, leading to the same result.
Previously, Lin Youning had suspected the Imperial Physician was sent by someone else. Now she felt her worries were unnecessary, as the physician was evidently brought in under her elder brother’s orders.
Since it’s her elder brother’s arrangement, there must be no issue.
Lin Youning realized she’d been too sensitive lately, leading her to overthink. After breakfast, she heard that the Second Madam from the Neishi family had arrived.
Lin Youning’s lips curled, "Is Miss Dong here?"
She stepped outside to greet her, heading towards the meeting spot.
The two met at the entrance between the front and rear courtyards. Dong Boyun looked plumper than before her marriage, but she was livelier. Spotting Lin Youning, she hurriedly ran forward, alarming her maids to hasten their steps.
Lin Youning supported her, examining her belly, "You’re about to become a mother, and still moving around like this."
Dong Boyun merely laughed, "It’s fine, the pregnancy is stable. I’ve been wanting to visit since hearing you’ve returned. If it weren’t for my mother-in-law saying you might still be recovering, I would’ve come earlier."
Lin Youning led her towards the inner courtyard, "Seeing you’re doing well now puts me at ease. With your temperament, I was indeed worried."
Once they settled on the couch and had the servants bring fruits and snacks, Lin Youning dismissed them.
Dong Boyun immediately clung to her and asked, "How have things been at the border? How are you and the Marquis getting along? When I heard the Marchioness was pregnant, I was worried about you. I know you’re open-minded, but times change. I wrote to you, but don’t know if you received it?"
"When did you write?" Lin Youning, surprised, responded, "Thanks for thinking of me. This matter concerns both families; what opinions do I have? I just live my own life."
Though her elder brother had made many promises, such things couldn’t be articulated. Lin Youning didn’t say it, but her expression was sweet. Dong Boyun, whose marriage was also currently harmonious, understood well.
She simply smiled at Lin Youning and transitioned to her own matters, "I must thank you for your advice back then, or I wouldn’t have found such a good husband. After we married, in the second half of the year, he gained the third-rank scholar title, and everyone says I’m fortunate."
