The Necromancer's Fourth Catastrophe-Chapter 445 - 388: Exceeding Authority (Part 2)
Because he was very clear that since these emissaries from the Elf Kingdom made such a request in front of his son, his son would definitely report directly to the Celestial Dragon Emperor, leaving him no room at all.
As for this son, he, the father, understands him the best, so he was too lazy to try to stop it. Continuing to stop it now would first make him lose face, and would definitely incur the wrath of the Celestial Dragon Emperor.
Furthermore, he was fundamentally powerless to prevent it—it would be a futile effort, so there was no need to do so.
As expected, Ling Yun, standing to the side, after hearing the words of the emissary from the Elf Kingdom, immediately nodded lightly and then took out the Carrier for the Communication Magic Array from his bosom.
"Alright, since it’s a request from the Elf Kingdom, I naturally won’t decline. I will immediately contact His Majesty to inform him of what you’ve said. As to whether His Majesty will agree, I dare not presume."
After he spoke, Ling Yun activated the Carrier for the Communication Magic Array, and shortly thereafter, a phantom appeared above it.
It was a man sitting on a dragon chair, wearing a golden dragon robe. His long black hair hung at his waist, and his face was extremely cold, like an ancient, unmelting iceberg.
Soon he was the first to speak: "Ling Yun, you contacted me—do you have something important to report?"
He had appointed Ling Yun’s father, Ling Shan, as the temporary leader of this team deployed to the Chaotic Sea Domain. If there were any issues, naturally, Ling Shan would handle the communications with him. Now, Ling Yun had bypassed his father, Ling Shan, to make direct contact with him. The Celestial Dragon Emperor understood well what this implied.
Ling Yun did not hesitate and relayed the plan mentioned by the emissary from the Elf Kingdom to the Celestial Dragon Emperor in detail.
After listening to Ling Yun, the Celestial Dragon Emperor narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze flickering a bit.
Seeing this, Ling Yun understood immediately—the Celestial Dragon Emperor was intrigued.
He had received special attention from the Celestial Dragon Emperor, even being personally taught for a time. They had spent a great deal of time together, so Ling Yun was well-versed in many of the Emperor’s habits.
For instance, the Emperor’s earlier demeanor suggested he was indeed intrigued.
As anticipated, after a slight contemplation, the Celestial Dragon Emperor spoke again: "I agree with this matter. Ah, Ling Yun, from now on, the temporary leadership of this team in the Chaotic Sea Domain will be transferred to you. You are now fully responsible."
"Additionally, the cooperation with the Elf Kingdom is also entrusted entirely to you. I trust you will not disappoint me."
Upon hearing the Emperor’s words, Ling Yun immediately, with an excited face, nodded: "Thank you, Your Majesty, for your trust. I will certainly handle this matter well."
Seeing this, the Celestial Dragon Emperor said nothing more and then terminated their connection.
Regarding Ling Yun, the Emperor had profound trust, so there was no need to elaborate further on many things.
After the Celestial Dragon Emperor disconnected, Ling Yun turned his gaze to his father. He wasn’t foolish; he understood well why the Emperor had suddenly shifted the temporary leadership to him.
But in his eyes, the interests of the Empire and the Royal Family far outweighed his own interests, so he said nothing further, his eyes lingering briefly on his father before looking away.
He then turned his attention to the emissaries from the Elf Kingdom and spoke to their leader: "As for the words of His Majesty earlier, you must have heard them all, so from now on, coordinate everything directly with me. I will cooperate well with the Elf Kingdom."
Ling Shan, who was standing to the side, heard Ling Yun’s words, let out a slight sigh, and finally closed his eyes, wishing to spare himself the trouble.
He was acutely aware that since the Celestial Dragon Emperor transferred the role of temporary leader to Ling Yun, he no longer had any say in the matter there.
And all of this was naturally due to his own reasons. Yet, he had no regrets, for if he really had to report such matters to the Celestial Dragon Emperor, that would be the true regret.
The emissary from the Elf Kingdom discussed specific details with Ling Yun and then took their leave.
After these emissaries left the main island of Wind and Cloud Island, Ling Yun looked into the distance at his father, finally walking over to him and said slowly: "The interests of the Empire and the Royal Family will always be paramount; everything else can be secondary. These are the words you taught me as a child, yet clearly, you yourself cannot uphold them."
"However, fortunately, I have managed to accomplish this, and I believe, Father, you must be very gratified. From now on, just stay in this palace and reside peaceably here on the main island of Wind and Cloud Island."
After he finished speaking, Ling Yun turned and walked toward the outside of the palace.
As he watched Ling Yun’s departing figure, Ling Shan let out a deep sigh. He now truly regretted teaching his son that way when he was young. The worst part was that such teachings were deeply etched in his son’s mind, becoming the motto he lived by.
Yet now, it was too late to say anything; there was no way to change it.
Meanwhile, on the main island of Prisoner Island.
Salman stood by the window, admiring the scenery outside. Suddenly, Rui Li rushed in hastily from outside.
Seeing Rui Li in such a hurry, Salman’s expression changed slightly, and he spoke, "Judging by your condition, is it that the Undead squad is causing trouble again?"
The last time he dealt with that squad composed of Undead Creatures, he let five Legendary Level entities escape, which made him concerned they might return to launch another attack.
Thus, previously, he had stationed an Epic Tier entity on each of the more crucial subsidiary islands, each holding a Communication Magic Array Carrier to maintain direct contact with Rui Li.
He had also instructed the Legendary Tier Mage on the main island of Prisoner Island to set up numerous Magic Arrays. If any enemies breached the main island, they could activate the Arrays, sealing the entire island. It would be impossible to leave for some time.
In fact, Salman could have arranged for an even more perfect and larger ambush, but that would require considerable time and effort, which Salman deemed unnecessary.
The current measures were sufficient.
It’s no issue to deal with even two or three squads of Undead Creatures together—Salman was confident in keeping them on the main island permanently.
Rui Li, after hearing Salman’s question, was momentarily stunned, then nodded heavily: "Yes, Duke Salaman, our Epic Tier entities stationed on the subsidiary islands were attacked. They said the attackers were a squad of Undead Creatures identical to before."
After hearing Rui Li, Salman narrowed his eyes slightly and then snorted coldly: "The few who escaped last time probably know well our strength on this island now. Knowing our strength and sending only one squad over is unlikely, unless they only intend to harass our subsidiary islands without trying to reach the main island."
"But I think the latter possibility is even smaller, so inform all the Legendary Tier entities on the main island to be ready to activate the measures left on the island at any moment. If the situation goes awry, withdraw with me immediately. If the situation is controllable, then ensure none leave and give them a significant blow, showing them that we are not to be trifled with."
After he finished speaking, Salman strode decisively out, with Rui Li quickly following behind.
