The Monster King's Legacy-Chapter 144: The Ceremony and Dragon God’s Blessing 2
Kaelthara smirked faintly but said nothing more.
Elder Thoryx stepped forward, raising his wings as he began the ritual chant, his own size bigger than usual. The ancient language of dragons echoed through the air, each word resonating with power. The ground beneath Lance's feet vibrated, the altar glowing with an otherworldly light.
Lance knelt at the center of the altar, surrounded by runes that shimmered and twisted as if alive. The energy in the air grew thicker, almost suffocating, as the chant reached its crescendo, though the elder's tone remained moderate while he spoke in a powerful voice aloud, sounding like thunder.
Kaelthara's voice cut through the tension, clear and commanding. "Swear your allegiance to the Dragon God, Lance. Declare your commitment to uphold the balance of this world."
Taking a deep breath, Lance spoke, his voice steady despite the weight of the moment. "I swear to honor the Dragon God's will! I will use the strength I've been given to protect this world and uphold its balance, no matter the cost!"
The runes flared brightly, and a beam of golden light shot down from the heavens, the seemingly infinite clear sky above, enveloping Lance in its brilliance.
As the light consumed him, Lance felt himself being pulled away from reality, his body growing weightless, his senses blurring as he was plunged into a trance-like state.
When his vision cleared, he found himself standing in an infinite void. The air shimmered with hues of gold, red, and white, and the ground beneath his feet was smooth, as though carved from pure light.
'Where is this? If this space?' He thought to himself, seeing a few distant star placements that would resemble those of constellations, perhaps, if he looked closely.
And then, he saw it.
A shadow loomed in the distance, growing larger with every second. It was unlike anything Lance had ever encountered… a dragon of immeasurable size, its body stretching far beyond his ability to comprehend. Its scales glowed with an ethereal brilliance, each one a galaxy in its own right, filled with those very stars. Its eyes, twin orbs of pure golden fire, stared down at him with an intensity that made his knees buckle.
Lance instinctively knelt without even fully realizing what he was doing, overwhelmed by the sheer presence of the being before him.
"You..."
The voice boomed, not in words but in feelings, vibrating through Lance's very soul. He couldn't fully understand the language, but the meaning behind it resonated deeply within him, speaking to his very soul.
Lance needed no introductions from the being, he knew exactly who it was from the very moment he laid eyes on it. It was like an epiphany, like a revelation.
The Dragon God's gaze pierced through him, its presence both terrifying and awe-inspiring. Lance felt as if every part of him, his past, his failures, his hopes, the present, was being laid bare before this divine entity.
"I have chosen you," the voice said, though Lance couldn't tell if it was a declaration or a warning. "Worthy... of my blessing."
As the words echoed, the Dragon God's massive claw extended, pointing directly at Lance. A surge of energy rushed through him, hotter than fire, heavier than stone. Lance gritted his teeth as the power seared into his body, marking him in ways he couldn't yet comprehend.
The dragon spoke again, this time in a language Lance didn't recognize. The words were cryptic, ancient, and filled with a weight that made his head spin.
Though he couldn't decipher the meaning fully, the tone left no doubt. The Dragon God had seen something in him, something even Lance couldn't yet grasp.
The vision began to fade, the void dissolving into golden light. Lance's body felt heavy again, and he gasped as his senses returned. He was back on the altar, the beam of light dissipating as the runes faded, he feeling he felt could never be replicated.
Kaelthara was the first to reach him, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity. "You're alive. That's a good start. We almost lost you there."
Lance blinked, still trying to process what had just happened. "I saw it... the Dragon God. It... spoke to me."
The gathered dragons erupted in murmurs, the elders exchanging stunned glances.
Elder Thoryx stepped forward, his molten eyes wide. "The Dragon God appeared to you directly?"
Lance nodded slowly. "It... acknowledged me. Said I was worthy of its blessing."
One of the elders frowned, one of surprise rather than anger, her voice tinged with disbelief. "A mortal receiving the Dragon God's blessing... everything is extraordinary with this mortal... Can we even call him a mortal anymore?"
Kaelthara helped Lance to his feet, her eyes scanning him intently. "You're different," she said, her tone softer than usual. "I can feel it. The Dragon God's very power runs through you… HAHAHAHAHAHA! Simply ASTOUNDING! CERTAINLY ONE OF MY OWN! HAHA!"
Lance glanced down at his hands, noticing faint golden lines running across his skin, like veins of light. He could feel the power within him, but it was unfamiliar, raw, and untamed, but unlike when he came out of the chasm of life, this one felt as though it was more part of him.
"I don't know what it all means," he admitted, his voice low.
Kaelthara placed a firm claw on his back. "You'll figure it out. But for now! You've taken the first step. Now, your future is truly looking boundless! HAHAH."
Aelyndra rushed forward, her wings flaring in excitement. "You did it, Lance! You're incredible!"
Lance managed a weak smile, though his mind was still clouded by the cryptic words of the Dragon God. "Thanks..."
As Lance and Kaelthara left the altar, the red scaled elder came closer, also descending the mountain.
"A mortal blessed by the Dragon God... Surely, things are about to change?" the emerald elder murmured.
Elder Thoryx's gaze followed Lance as he descended the steps. "It means the world is changing. And that human may very well be the catalyst."
