The Monster King's Legacy-Chapter 141: Light Spar
Following their return, it took Lance a few days to get used to his new body and strength, and as soon as he became comfortable enough, a test was placed before him… well, not exactly a test, but it could as well be called that.
As Lance stood in a rather familiar place where he had trained multiple times before, it was at the same time different, and he had to ignore the towering figures and landscape that stretched all over, his focus set solely on the imposing figure before him.
Kaelthara, in her human form, stood with arms crossed, her wild black hair billowing behind her. Her golden eyes gleamed with anticipation as she examined Lance. The faint smirk on her lips told Lance she was looking forward to this.
From a distance, the dragon elders as well as other dragons observed in silence.
Though the elders had initially opposed Lance's use of the Chasm of Life, his survival and transformation had piqued their curiosity. They watched with a mix of suspicion and fascination as Kaelthara prepared to test her student's newfound strength.
…
Kaelthara uncrossed her arms and rolled her shoulders. "Let's see what that shiny new body of yours can do. I'll start slow like I always do. Don't disappoint me."
Lance clenched his fists, feeling the surge of energy within him. His body felt lighter, stronger, more responsive than ever. With the new found strength, Lance nodded. "I'm ready."
Kaelthara moved first. In an instant, she closed the distance between them, her fist cutting through the air like a blur. Lance barely had time to react, raising his arms to block. The impact sent him sliding backward, his feet carving shallow grooves into the rocky ground.
"That's... new," Lance muttered, shaking out his arms with a faint smile on his face. He didn't feel the usual bone-rattling pain that accompanied Kaelthara's strikes during their sparring sessions. This time, he could take it.
Kaelthara raised an eyebrow, her smirk widening. "Interesting. Let's push a little harder." She said.
Kaelthara darted forward again, her movements fluid and precise. She unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, each blow carrying the same strength she had used during their earlier training. But this time, Lance didn't just defend, he was able to perform some counter.
He ducked under a sweeping kick, pivoting to land a solid strike to her side. Kaelthara huffed, more surprised than hurt, and spun around to retaliate. Lance met her strikes head-on, his speed and strength now on par with hers… or at least it looked to be compared to her current strength.
From their vantage point, the elders exchanged glances.
"He's keeping up with her," one of the elders muttered.
The red-scaled elder snorted. "For now. Let's see how long he lasts."
Soon enough, Kaelthara's blows became faster, stronger, and more relentless, but Lance adapted. His reflexes felt sharper, his movements more precise. For every strike Kaelthara landed, he returned one of equal force.
Kaelthara's smirk turned into a grin as she stepped back, following a clean punch landed on her cheek. She rolled her neck, a loud crack echoing through the air.
"Alright," she said, her tone laced with amusement. "You've earned a real fight. Let's see how far you've really come."
Her aura flared, a dark and golden energy enveloping her form, the ground beneath her feet cracking as she unleashed a portion of her true strength.
Lance braced himself, feeling the weight of her energy press against him. Kaelthara launched herself at him with newfound intensity, her strikes coming faster and harder than before. Lance responded in kind, his movements fueled by the power coursing through him.
The clash of their blows echoed across the mountain range, each strike shaking the peak and sending debris tumbling down its sides. Lance's fists collided with Kaelthara's, their sheer force leveling the ground beneath them.
Elder Thoryx, watching from afar, let out a low chuckle. "It's like watching two Kaeltharas."
Another elder sighed, shaking his head. "We should have known this would happen. Of course Kaelthara's student would become another Kaelthara."
The red-scaled elder grunted in agreement. "If only someone else had trained him. Now we've got two of her."
The three of them shared a resigned look before chuckling, the tension easing. Someone, their earlier opposition towards Lance disappeared once he came out of the chasm of life with his life.
Back on the mock battlefield, Kaelthara and Lance exchanged blows with unrelenting ferocity. The peak of the mountain began to crumble under the force of their fight, the once-pristine landscape now a flattened battleground. Despite being overpowered for most of it, Lance still had a lot of energy, and appeared to be enjoying himself even.
Kaelthara lunged forward with a powerful kick, but Lance sidestepped, using her momentum to try and throw her off balance, though it failed halfway through. He followed up with a punch that landed squarely on her shoulder, sending her skidding backward. He was able to get her to take her leg off the ground, giving him just a big enough window to land the attack, though, it had done zero damage.
Kaelthara steadied herself, laughing as she wiped some dirt from her lip. "You've grown, Lance. Faster, stronger, and smarter. Certainly, a student that I thought."
She surged forward again, her fist glowing with energy. Lance met her halfway, his own punch radiating with a faint golden hue, as opposed to her black and gold. Their strikes collided, creating a shockwave that rippled across the mountain range, leveling the mountain peak.

When the dust settled, both stood at the center of the destruction, Lance breathing heavily but unyielding while Kaelthara stood before him with a proud smile on her face.
Kaelthara placed her hands on her hips, as her grin refused to disappear. "Hahaha, you're a damn monster now, you know that?"
Lance chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "I have a good teacher."
Seeing that it was over, the elders descended from their perch, their expressions a mix of awe and admiration.
"He's more than a monster," Elder Thoryx said, his gaze fixed on Lance. "He's a problem. With Kaelthara as his teacher, we've created something the world might not be ready for."
The red dragon elder sighed. "We should have let someone else train him. At least then he wouldn't be this... unstoppable."
Kaelthara raised an eyebrow, her smirk widening. "Jealous, are we? Face it, you're just mad you didn't get to shape him first."
The red-scaled elder let out a deep laugh. "Mad? No. Terrified? Absolutely."
The group burst into laughter, the tension dissipating as they watched Lance and Kaelthara exchange a knowing glance.
