Chapter Seventy Two

...combine!

Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

The mana buzzed around my body forming a second circle as my body felt lighter than before.

[Ping!]

[Congratulations, Host! You have successfully formed a second circle!]

Ugh... I feel so sleepy. It's so cramped here. I want to stretch my legs, Sysi.

[Ping!]

[Transferring Host outside The Dimensional Space...]

Wooooshhh!

Thump!

I landed back on my bed, my limbs splaying out like a starfish. My body relaxed, finally being able to stretch out.

"Sweet, sweet freedom!" I groaned, relishing the sensation of the soft wolf fur over the stone bed. I stretched my arms so wide I heard my joints pop in a satisfying chorus.

"I guess it's true that only after hardships one appreciates what they have. My dear fur did you miss daddy too much~?"

[Ping!]

[Really hard to understand you, Host.]

Why do you even try to understand me in the first place.

[Ping!]

[That's a good question.]

I know.

I responded as I closed my eyes, feeling the mana around my body humming beautifully. Oh my dear second circle!

The second circle was humming with a rhythm that made my body feel like a rusty carriage upgraded with a turbo engine.

[Ding!]

[Time spent in Dimensional Space: 7 days.]

[Time elapsed in the outside world: 7 hours]

[Current Time in World: 23:59:01]

Damn! I really made it in the nick of time. A little later and this system would have cancelled my login and found a way to scam me again.

[Ding!]

[Daily Task Reward Claimable!]

[Host is suggested to lie down and close your eyes to see through the memories before the knowledge of the career.]

Wha- Already?

---

My eyes opened as they were graced with the once familiar scene of the white walls running parallel to each other and never ending. There was no ceiling like before, only a sourceless luminescence that made my retinas throb.

My body felt weightless, as I floated in air like a ghost, sighing.

Ugh! Not again. I don't even like watching necrophilia.

Sysi? Are you there?

[Ping!]

[Host is currently back in the 'Neural Archive.' Please enjoy the new memory.]

Suddenly, the white walls flickered. Images began to bleed through the ivory void like ink dropped into water.

... Here we go again.

The scene solidified once again as I floated across the 3D play as if I was a ghost that was watching scenes just before his death.

---

Clang!

The sound of metal hitting the floor filled my ears as I watched the scene in front of me.

A silver tray of surgical instruments lay overturned, its contents scattered across the tile like the discarded toys of a bored child. In the center of the room, a man in a white coat was pinned against the cold operating table.

Ugh...I sometimes forget the selfishness of people.

"Please... Julian," the man on the table wheezed, his lungs rattling with a fluid-heavy sound. "The vaccine... it wasn't ready. People will die if you release it now. I only tried to stop the trial because—"

"Because you have a hero complex, Elias," a voice purred.

A tall man stepped into the surgical light. In his hand, he held a syringe filled with a thick, neon-amber sludge that looked less like medicine and more like molten rot.

...What the hell is that thing?

"You spent ten years in the lab while I spent ten years in the boardroom," the man in the crisp scrubs said, his voice a smooth, terrifying silk. "You see patients, big brother. I see market share."

"It's... poison," Elias gasped, his eyes wide as the man he called Julian grabbed his jaw, forcing his head back against the cold steel.

"It's a masterpiece," Julian countered. "And you, my dearest elder brother, are going to be my first official case study."

Clink. Clink.

My breath hitched.

A woman stepped out from behind a medical monitor.

She was dressed in a designer lab coat that hugged her curves.

Ugh... I can't see her face clearly... It's fucking covered in dark, Sysi.

The woman walked straight to Julian and wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning her head on his shoulder.

"Is he still talking, Julian? Honestly, his voice always gave me a headache," she sighed. I could only watch her back and Julian and Elias's face.

But... Why does that voice feel creepingly familiar?

Elias's eyes fractured as he stared at the woman. "Sarah? You... you're with him?"

"Honey~ Look at him. He's trying to flirt with your future wife in front of you~"

Ugh... Why can't I see that damn face? Where have I heard that voice before? Why can't I seem to recall? My head fucking hurts, Sysi.

"How dare you, Elias!" Julian reached for a scalpel.

With a sudden, violent downward stroke, he sliced a long, jagged line from Elias's collarbone down to his sternum.

My eyes narrowed at the scene.

Ugh! Humans are truly terrible. But, who is that woman to Elias? What-

I felt a blinding, white-hot agony sear across my own torso. I clutched my spectral chest, my breath coming in shallow, panicked hitches.

Why the fuck am I feeling the pain in the memory itself?

"GRAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Elias's scream was a guttural sound that broke midway as the woman, Sarah shoved a handful of surgical gauze into his mouth to stifle the noise.

So poisonous... How can someone marry a woman like that? Perhaps, they suit each other that's why.

"Don't be dramatic," Julian whispered, leaning over the open wound. He pressed the needle directly into the exposed muscle of Elias's chest and emptied the amber sludge.

The reaction was instantaneous.

The flesh didn't just swell. It began to liquefy. The muscle fibers turned into a grey, bubbling slurry. Elias's body arched off the table, his spine snapping with a sound like dry kindling as the chemical rot began to eat him from the inside out while he was still fully conscious.

"Sarah... My love... Why?"

... The fuck?

"Why? You'll know why one day." I watched as the women stepped out of the darkness, stomping on the open flesh repeatedly with her heel.

SQUASH! SQUASH!

My gaze opened wide as it landed on the beautiful face while the woman looked up smiling like an angel.

"How could you leave me?"

... What?
